Driving 400+ miles a week and eating meat at every meal FTW! I would like to see the math, because I currently don't understand how I have a 4.4 acre shelter rating when two of us live on a half acre plot.

2.1, but I'd love to know where they get their info on how much "x" costs in "global acres".

Um, they made it up. Everything I hear about these global footprint things is that it is all just crap to get money. I've even heard serious, reputable environmental groups say that. I mean, it isn't a ripoff if you donate, because they do go plant trees or fund research or something with the money but the figures are all bull.

Wait. I found it in their FAQ. Apparently they get their data from the IPCC. These guys really just love to hound me.

Could someone just tell them that I like to eat and animals are tasty and to leave me alone?

I got the point, I just think it's wrong.

Edit: The point is "Our planet cannot sustain your standard of living". How can that be true when we constantly redefine what our planet can sustain?

In case no one else gets the actual point:

It is to make you feel guilty and then give them money. If you click take action it presents this huge list of things you can do to decrease your footprint, but it makes it appear hard, so it is just easier to hand them cash.

Looking at the take action list I see that it suggests a low-flow shower head to help. So, I guess that by specifically shopping for a shower head that increases water pressure I am even worse. My favorite is reducing your footprint by sweating instead of using air conditioning. I think I figured out why some eco-extremists are smelly and dirty.

If everyone lived like me, we would need 2.9 planets. Only 13 acres for me and my family. Not bad for someone who works for an Evil Empire-type of company to most environmental junkies. I think a lot of this is based on the fact that I travel short distances to work, and carpool (my wife and I rarely travel alone).

So what if everyone else doesn't work as hard as I do, and isn't as fortunate to live in an industrialized nation?

If that doesn't show that the results are skewed, then somebody show me a result that could help bring the average score down to the number of planets we actually live on.

Well, I think it's because it's not going to say we need less planets than we have... What we need to do is get everyone on the planet to take it, and see if the average acre usage is less than the amount need ed to require more Earths.
