It does take up some space, but not as much as you might think. vBulletin runs on a database (mySQL), which greatly reduces bandwidth, server load, and webspace. Now, if we were still using Ikonboard (which is powered by flat-file CGI scripts), this thread would have taken up a huge amount of space, if it could have even gotten this big before crashing.

I actually asked a vBulletin developer about thread size, and he said that there really is no limit, but the forums would start slowing down at somewhere around 65,000 messages.
