I know what some basic things are. I'm comfortable changing oil, and I think I can remember the steps in changing the studs, replacing exhaust piping with a preassembled one. Basically just things I've done with my car. Nothing big, and you sure as hell wouldn't want to leave me with your car and expect it to be fixed.

I can fix some things, but I don't usually attempt it. I need my fingers to make music.

Oil changes, brake jobs, tune-ups and replacing shocks is enough for me.

I once helped a friend replace my clutch on an old pick-up truck I once had. It was a pain. Never did anything more sophisticated after that.

I can do some stuff... Like I could work in a pit crew, I.E change tires, oil, some other stuff (mufflers) and I can do wheel alignments.

I know enough to know that I shouldn't attempt anything on my own car, or I'll **** something up.:p

I know enough to keep it running day to day, but anything major is always taken to the dealer/specialist.

I can do basic electrics, and running maintenance, such as primary fluid checks and replacement.

I used to run a cheap car, in which case I would have a go at the maintenance myself. Now, however, my car is a bit more complex, so the chance of messing up is higher. I'm also much shorter on time now, so I outsource the maintenance work.

Oh, and I know enough to know that this was in the wrong forum...

yea. me too...

i can fill the petrol, check oil, water/coolant etc...if it needs anything else i wouldnt have a clue....i 'outsource' it to the local garage....

I can do a lot of stuff, but I'm painfully slow at some things. On my own I don't hesitate to tackle routine maintenance, brake jobs, alternator/starter or sensor replacements, etc. I've done some suspension or engine upgrades too.

I have done two engine swaps, but with help. Putting the Cressida engine in my old Supra was with my father, who had the world's best amateur garage: lift, hoist, full machine shop, air, welder, everything. After he died I had to solicit help from a guy I knew to do the 2.4 swap on the Neon. That turned a bit ugly but came out OK in the end... I just wish it had been my father helping me. It would have been better, cheaper, and faster.

So, I know enough to get along, but lack of time prevents me from tackling any truly ambitious projects.

Im pretty good with cars, My dad has been a mechanic on Mitsubishi's all my life and me and my brother have always been modding our DSM's. I can do my own turbo's, exausts. wiring, suspension, all that crap. My current engine in my Talon I built from a bare block, and all spare parts. But then there is the one downfall... I hate working on cars :banghead:

I'm 13 so I don't know much about cars and wouldn't do anything to anyones, unless I had a chance to do it on a really bad- teacher's car.

truly ambitious?
You have performed two engine swaps with assistance.:odd:
I'm geussing there is harder things, but I can't think of them yet.
If anyone would like to make me look real stupid, go ahead, it isn't hard.

I have very basic knowledge when it comes to car related problems and how to fix them.

I know how to check the oil, fill it up with gas, drive it forwards, and I can even drive it backwards.

I wish I knew more but that is about it really.

I know enough about cars to get me into and out of trouble quickly. I tend to try things when i shouldnt and miraculously, my car still runs after im done... Basic stuff like Muffler, brakes, oil changes are easy... Im starting a project with some buddies soon and we're swapping my K8 engine with a KL-ZE. We all know about the same amount when it comes to cars.. but 6 heads are better than one right?? lol

I can fix most all electronics and have a basic hatred to the mid-80's GM eletrical system. I have swapped engines before, one being a Rotary and a few 350 blocks, and 454 blocks, changed suspensions on three cars I had at one point, maintained all of them, the Rotary being the pain in the arse, I need to learn how to weld better and when it comes to bodies, I can use premanufactured stuff, but never customize it. I wouldn't say I know enough to be a technician because I am always learning something about them when I work on them with or without buddies. . .

I know enough so I don't completly ruin something, but I I'd rather leave it to the guys that are paid to do it. But I do like to do some of my custom work, but if I mess up I'm screwed, they mess up they replace it.

i have been brought up building/restoring cars all my life with my dad (and am still doing it), i have also done 1 year of a automotive engineering training
i do everything myself and get it right...
i just wouldnt be able to pay a mechanic to do something i could do myself

you never stop learning doesnt matter how good you are

I'm fit to tackle most basic things, as long as it doesn't take longer than an afternoon, a lift and "special tools". Simple bolt ons, fluids, plugs, filters, pads... about the most complex thing I've tackled is a strut and shock swap with guidence and help. Ask me to correctly install new cams or swap a rear end, and I'm clueless.

As long as I've seen something done before or had it explained to me I can pretty much do it if I have the right tools. I'll try it first and i fi mess up then I have my neighbr take it to his shop and fix it.

I have an old turbo supra enigne that I'm going to take appart and put back together to practice :) I also think I'm going to buy a Nissan Skyline technical repair manual to add to my collection of GTR stuff.

yeah im only 14 and i have changed struts on a car/ springs, front shocks, oil, oil filter, put headers on a car, body work, the basic tune up stuff, and can also weld, i have a 72 camino that my dad and i are restoring so i get to do things every step of the way.

Ya, I would really like to buy a 200 $$$ junker and learn to fix it myself. But then I thought, where would I put it?:p

hey speedkrazy620 you should just get an old lawn mower engine. try getting a four stroke one though. thats how i started to get into some engines.
