Since most “gourmet” chips (think Kettle Chips or Trader Joe’s chips) are cooked in non-hydrogenated oil, grease accumulates at the bottom, and so that last 10% of the bag is always really greasy and nasty. Is there a way to, if not directly remove the grease, at least make the chips seem less greasy? The only thing I can think of is refrigeration, but I’m not sure I want cold potato chips…

DO NOT refrigerate chips. I remember some kid had doritos in his ice-pak'd lunchbox when I was in elementary school and they were AWFUL.

I guess maybe you could wipe them with a paper towel or something... You kind of have to expect grease when eating chips, though.

deep fry them....30 seconds only.

But really, the only way would be to line a large bowl with good quality paper towel * more absorbant * and shaken them around abit....will help some, but unless you do each lone individually, you're SOL

Sage, the only advice I can think of is to eat Pringles.
Unfortunately, Pringles suck!!!

Dump them out on some paper towels and let them sit for half an hour.

Build some sort of rotating contraption with a place to store the bag of chips so the grease gets distributed evenly and doesn't accumulate at the bottom.

You could talk to the guy that holds this patent:

Title:
Device for removing grease from the surface of a food item
Document Type and Number:
United States Patent 6578285
Abstract:
A device for absorbing or blotting grease from the surface of foods such as pizza comprising a support member having a handle for manually gripping the device and an absorbent or oligiophilic pad attached to such support member for blotting the surface of a food item.

If that doesn't work out Procter and Gamble seem to be working on something similar:

I was going to suggest baked chips as well, but he mentioned Kettle Chips, which are delicious. I'd probably just set them out on a paper towel, that would probably do...

We've had threads on funny pictures, a thread on monkeys, and now we've got a thread on how to remove grease from potato chips. What is GTP coming to...

What we do from time to is, throw the chips in the oven pan thingy (in lack of better understanding of the engrish language) and give them 3-5 minutes at around 200 degrees celsius.. Not only does it "lighten" the chips, but it actually makes them a lot more enjoyable..

I'm guessing the heat will "melt" most of the excessive fat / grease as well...

A baking sheet, perhaps?

I was going to suggest something like this...

Put them in the microwave for about 22-33 seconds to heat up the fat. Then, put them on a paper towel with another paper towel on top. Wait 30 minutes and see if that works.

You're crazy, man! You've never accidently downed a tube of Pringles in one sitting?

My PE coach in elementary school used to give out bbq pringles at the after-school care recess
