How would you explain GTP to someone who doesn't know what forums are, and aren't interested very much in games and cars ETC...

I tried explaining it to my mom but I always feel like she's just doing the "Oh yeah, well thats cool" thing and isn't really getting the jist of what GTP is. Same thing at school, I always get asked, "What are you always on?", and I try and explain it's forum but I don't ever seem to get the idea across to people of what else it is. I've pretty much given up on trying to explain it to people, when they ask I just say I don't know and they usually walk away.

So what would be a good way to do this?

I would say that GTP is a great forum with an amazing community that keeps things interesting. There is also alot of new people making a complete fool out of themselves and mods take care of it quickly. There is always something good to read here on GTP. Once you sign up, it is hard to leave after a while... Just have to obey the AUP, then everything is going to be great. 👍

That's the best way I can word it right about now, since I'm playing Nitto...

I mostly call it a gaming forum.

I always like to explain whats been going on at GTP to my friends. Despite the lack of interest for the GT series (They're more Xbox nerds than Ps2 nerds) they still enjoy hearing whats been happening throughout the community. They also really enjoy the funny pictures topic :D

Most of my popular friends have no interest because instead of gaming and going on forums, they go to the beach and the movies. I guess you have to have friends that generally know what your talking about, and live the same type of lifestyle to really be able to explain it, and for them to show any interest.

I usually say "online community" instead of forum. And then when they ask: So, what do you guys do there? I say:

"Well, it's kinda like a place to hang out when you're bored, we talk just about anything except sex 'cause it has rules and all. You could also meet some pretty cool people from there. I have, and so have others.
But we mostly talk about cars, sports, current events and you know.. guys stuff" :sly:

This is usually when I'm in the mood of explaining it to somebody; when I'm not, then I just say: "it's just a nice online community" that's all.

👍

GTPlanet is one of those forums that has just the right mix of regulars to make it an interesting place to stay. Some forums are so small that nothing much goes on... some are so diverse that you can't really keep up with what's happening. On GTPlanet, there's just enough people. :)

Most of my friends cant tell a car from a bus. If they talk about a car its a Skyline. If they talk about a Skyline all they know about Skyline's are that there is such a thing as an R34. Some sad friends i got. Most of my friends like them kiddy games like RAC series, Starwars etc. Since everyone of my friends dont know what a forum is, i usually just keep quiet, i dont reffer anyone much to here. I usually just say its a car place where people like me (people who like racing games over others) just like hang out (Thats if im forced to tell them anyways.

A place where grown adults can act like children.

... :D

In seriousness, I would tell someone GTP is a great community to chat with, with the added bonus if they like gaming, or Gran Turismo and cars.

And a place where children can act like adults :dopey:

It's a bit like an open prison.

- Full of strange men that mostly need keeping away from the general public.
- They can leave at any time but they tend to always come back after escaping.
- They sit around all day passing the time.
- They have unhealthy obsessions.

Then why do the guards (moderators) have to pick up all the trash left by uncaring motorists?

I call it an automotive forum, since it is truly the axis onto which even Gran Turismo must revolve about.

This place is Hotel California.

You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave.

Although you can be thrown out!

I call it a work aid. Something to make your day go quicker!

I explain what GTP is by saying that its a large friendly community on the net where people can talk to each other mainly about gran turismo but also all sorts of other topics.

I would describe a forum as like a notice / message board where people make a comment then people can add or make their own comment below it...

I love GTP! :sly:

How many people have you ‘checked out’ permanently, daan? :P
I'm in double digits, and it starts with a 4, at the last count.

Not that we have a league table or anything...

***Goes to look for someone to ban to stay in the top half of the table....***
