How you would honestly feel if PD included Karting in GT5?

It's interesting to note that those small, tight Kart tracks also make excellent tracks for racing Kei cars and other low powered machinery. Motor Sports Land and Motor Land would indeed make good Kart tracks.

I think this proves Kart's are made for short tight circuits, they haven't really got the speed for the ring. With that I would say Kart's shouldn't be in GT5 as it's unlikely there will be any track's that suit them.

Best save Kart's for real life where they are awesome fun

I Do karting myself (junior rotax) Did my first race today.

Karts in games like toca are rubbish. They are nothing like the real thing handeling wise. Karts in a game need to have a completley different physics.

I have though that some people should make a racing game just about karts, In which you can run through a career (A proper career taking into acount and repairs, reliability and how easily a kart can break) with real kart clubs like blackbushe, pfi, rissington. And lots of different types of karts: cadets, Old 100cc's, Rotax's, kf1/2/3's, and 250cc gearboxes.

If karts are in Gran turismo i would be really pleased but only if they get the handeling right. Karting is an adventure they need to capture this in the game not just make them look slow because they have a low top speed.

Everyone who thinks that karts are for wuss's and are no match for other cars. Then you are wrong, They are real racing machines (as i said in the race cars wishlist) Now the evening after the race my neck, arms, feet and everything else imaginable aches you re completely imersed in motorsport. Karts are the most basic form of motorsport and best of all they teach you engineering, and how to make stuff work and how to race safely.

However if pd put karts in the game then they will be good. Kaz wouldn't put something in the game if it wasn't realistic.

sorry if i sound a bit agressive defending karting i just love it.

250cc karts would be fine on the nurburing.

sorry about double post i couldn't put the quote in my previous post.

Fair point, my experience is from going to karting tracks for stag do's etc. They are loads of fun but top speed is about 40mph so are best on small tracks. Would love to try a proper kart, do they come any bigger than 250cc?

Karting on a stag do is nothing like real kart racing.
125 and 250cc gearboxes are both used on long curcuits like silverstone and the 250's are faster than moto gp bikes. So buy no means are slow.
And no they don't come any bigger than 250 unless they are custom made an then you can't race them. If an engine is any bigger than 250 it is to big for a kart and wouldn't fit on the chassis. all the modifications to put that size engine in would require more weight and making it more like a car racing car, thats why. And the fact that anything that quick would make you wet yourself.

No they don't, they just need to be done in the game right. Karts don't abide to a different law of physics to cars n the real world, so why would you need to put two physics engines in a game unless the games engine isn't that good in the first place?

That's true, they don't get the feel right at all but in a game with a good physics engine I'd say it's more a case of making sure you get the feel right though the controller (wheel or pad).

Regarding physics, there is only so much you can get a game to do so I get the idea of what your said at first, a game cannot calculate everything so they concentrate on the physical laws that affect what the game revolves around. But karts adhere to the same set of physics as a car, only karts are much simpler than a car. So the key is as I said earlier is imo getting the feel for them right through the controls.

*Claps sarcastically*

Well done guys, no really.

You DO realise that translator man is reading this thread to Kaz and because of the enthusiastic reaction he is going to implement it into GT5.

YOU'VE JUST PUT IT BACK ANOTHER YEAR YOU FOOLS!

Nope, karts hold record laps at a number of international race tracks. We have gone over this earlier in the thread. Sure they're limited in top speed, I think the 125cc racing karts reach around 110mph and the 250cc super karts reach top speeds around 150-160mph. It's the acceleration and cornering speeds that really set them apart. That said there arn't many forms of racing where the cars spend much time over 160mph anyway, a 250cc kart will go round a track spending far more time at top or a high speed than a GT or ever a single seater.

I think in the comments the author of the video explains that it was a demo lap so they were restricted.

160 mph... probably for half a second at the end of a two kilometer long straight... ...on the straights on our local tracks, we typically see only 100-130 mph before the next corner on the longest of them.

Well, I said between 150-160mph, but a lot of the higher spec Superkarts do that. Some of the competition 125's will do 110mph, 115ish mph.

I should have read more of the thread, I did wonder why some of the karts were going so slow!

Looking into the suitable tracks I guess there are some that would be good for top level racing karts.

Kart Friendly tracks:

Autumn Ring Short
Motorland
Beginner Course
Suzuka Short course
Motegi short
tsukuba circuit

If they've done the Nurburging F1 track,i'd add I both short versions. Both would work, especially Nürburgring Müllenbach.

I'll try and recreate that tonight in Mod Nation Racers.

Have you ever tried the racing game rFactor for PC? There are a couple cool karting mods for it. I actually know both the guys who worked on the mods (through online stuff) but one guy actually won the Rotax Rock Island GP. I actually find both the mods to be realistic, but I've only really driven a kart once, and it was on dead tires.

Here are the series that are simulated through modding in rFactor:

For a World Karting Mod
Animal Karts
125cc ICC
125cc Rotax
125cc Shifters

For BRKart
100cc Karts
125cc Karts
250cc Karts

The WK mod is better looking, but I am finding the BRKart more realistic.

This is a video of me posting a lap on the track.

EDIT:
Sorry man, this game was scheduled for release 2 years ago... I have been waiting that long for it... It ain't gonna happen!

pretty sweet video and reinforced the idea of why Karts should be in GT5

I quite like the idea of this in GT5. It would be a good eduction for newbies to the GT series. It a good starting point for racing drivers for a very good reason. However I think there are other more important things for PD to focus on..........like getting the game finished ;)

At least with karts Eiger will be a race track where its actually possible to overtake without having to jump OVER the car(t) in front.

One thing I also remembered is that GT Academy also had Go-Karts in it!

yeah i have looked at rfactor.

I'm probably going to get it.

However compared to ps3 graphics it is pretty bad.

The guys (there are only 2 of them) are working on their editor at the moment and the physics are almost complete, I have played a few Alpha versions including some with multiplayer code and its pretty darn good.

The physics themselves are actually in their 3rd complete re-write.

***last I heard they are looking at a demo around June/July.

Karts....!!!! yes please.... and i would also be massochistic enough to do the ring in one too! To be honest i bet it would be the most contested leaderboard.. that and F1+ring!
