How's the sound in PGR3?

I was curious about this... what with this newfangled technology (damn kids and their Pac-Man video games...), I'm curious as to what other improvements there are besides graphics.

As important as sound is to a game, it's annoying when you watch the video review of a game and the frikkin' idiot doing the review won't shut up for two frikkin' seconds to let you hear what the game actually sounds like. Then he spends more time talking about the music than he does about the sound. I don't know about the rest of you, but I play racing games sans music.

Anyhoo...

So how's it sound? Engine noises, tires, wind, ambient track noise, etc. Especially engine noise.. I'm curious as to whether it's still same asstastic single-sample sound we've been getting since time out of mind.

And before somebody asks the really stupid question... No, I don't own an Xbox360... else I would have just played it myself by now. :)

I tell you what i think it sounds like on 5.1 when i get it next Friday. Thats if my Xbox 360 arrives on Friday mate.

Been playing only PGR3 since Tuesday. The audio is excellent. I won't say it blows you away like next-gen audio but it is definitely improved over PGR2, which was quite good itself. I haven't really analyzed it yet to tell you if it's all from a single sample or not, I'll look into that. What I do notice is the engine note during a replay when a car approaches, screams by the camera, and then trails off in the distance. The doppler effect is quite impressive, but even more impressive is how the engine sound distorts as the car gets far away and it becomes affected by the atmosphere. Very realistic! Also great is how the engine note changes depending on what view you use. Cockpit view has a nice muffled effect that is very convincing. Even when in third person and you look back, the sound changes there too! Tire noise is great as well, and the sound of your tires on different surfaces is noticable (not just cobblestones but different types of tarmac).

By the way, photo mode ROCKS!!! (Except that you can't save to USB)

Seems so :(

BTW, sounds in PGR3 are in****ingcredible  The RUFs sound just like real Porsches 👍
Ice i see if i can find a way of getting them on my PC. Insted of it being taken through S-Video. Once i get my Xbox 360 mate.

The game sounds pretty good on a good DTS system. Cars such as a good F50 or F360 or a RUF really do sound very good, if a bit generic still. The problem i get with the sound is in the cockpit. Its like they put full of cotton wrap around the cockpit and all the noises are muffled. It really sounds like if you are in a very expensive bentley or BMW Series7... rather then a supercar smashing around a race track.

Overall, i still find that the sounds generated in Need For speed underground and Most wanted are more true to life then any other games to date.

I can do screencaps as well, but it appears that MS actually hasn't even enabled the X360 to write or otherwise output through the USB ports, for Xbox Live security reasons. We'll have to see what BC can do... :nervous:

They need to find a way, to allow them to writed to USB devices. Like a PSP, so they show up as JPEG.
