Huge sound problem after motherboard change....PLEASE help

Hi guys,

After some BIOS problems with my old motherboard (Mainboard?) I bought a new one.....Yes, i tried updating the old BIOS, but nothing worked...anyway....

The new one is a MSI K7N2 Delta 2. It has an nForce 2 Ultra 400 Chipset, and integrated sound (some 6.1 or 5.1 surround). I use headphones/a headset and after installing the drivers that came with it, I had a terrible sound without any base(bass?) and like the sound you get on some laptop/notebook speakers, but in your headset.....

Thought that the AC97 drivers that came with the board were bad, so installed the newest nVidia nForce Audio drivers I used with my old board.....and it made no difference, the sound quality is still F-ed up, and nothing improved......I really need some help, to get my sound back, because it can't be possible for MSI to release a mainboard with such a CRAP audio sollution, especially if it's supposed to be a 5.1.......It has something to do with the software....

Thanks a lot for your help !! Happy Vallentine's day :)

PS: Yes....I checked my headphones, they are louder even hooked up to my 10 Year old Hi-fi that costed 20 euros.....duh :nervous:

Sounds to me like you've enabled 5.1 out on the motherboard. If that is indeed the case, you need to set the output to 2 channel instead. Are your headphones connected to the green output on the motherboard ?...

Nope, my output (in nVidia Media Mixer, or whatever it's called) is set to headphones......is there another way to do this ? (jumpers?)

Yes... But I'll be damned if I can tell you from a standing start.. Hang on a second, need to use the other puter...

[Edit:]In nvMixer, in the Speaker Mode tab, what does your settings look like ?... To me, it still sounds like your headphone output is being filtered... :odd:

it looks like this :

EDIT: Even if I turn all the volumes up, nothing happens.......And if I listen to something, all those LEDs light up, like all was normal

Try turning everything (LR, L, Center, Sub, R and RR) up to max...

[Edit:] Don't bother... Just checked...

[Edit2:] And you're absolutely positive that your headphones are connected to the green socket ?...

[Edit3:] According to the manual, the bottom socket. Never seen that before...

EDIT2, yes, the green one is in the middle on my board

Hell try them all. And post a picture of your windows volume settings (go to the options-properties tab and turn them all on). This is probably a check box or something hiding in your audio driver software.

Put a check in those boxes that say SPDIF, MIDI, AUX etc. Just for completeness - so we can see the volume levels on those as well.

Have you got the original drivers and software on the computer? If so, you can alter all of the settings via the AC97 Configuration program. The icon on your taskbar should be:

Then click on Equaliser, And tun on the settings for what you are listening. By the sound of it you may need 'ROCK', because when I got this computer, the sound was a bit crap, and 'ROCK' sorted it. Also make sure that 'Auto Gain Control' is on, or the sound will sound crackly. :)

My Config:

And
(old one when I was showing my webhost that it had 5.1 surround sound, just to show you the speaker config screen)

EDIT, and you can switch on headphone mode from the software, just go to Speaker Configuration. :)

EDIT:
Here is the manafactures site of the AC97 Series of audio codecs:

EDIT:
Came up with a Google Search, and it seems that you have Almost the same audio chipset as me. ;)
MSI
• Realtek ALC650 6-channel audio
• Dolby Digital 5.1 format (with MCP2-T option)

Thanks for all the help, but it somehow keeps producing the same (low) amount of bass.......hhm......tried everything you suggested, thanks loads anyway.... If you have any extra tip at all, it'll be a great help :-)

EDIT: Thanks, i'll also try different driver versions.....hope it'll help ;)

Ah, missed the fact that there was no scroll bar there. I'm surprised those are the only settings you have in the volume control. I have 11 different volumes (quite annoying). Maybe it's my version of XP.

Anyway it's in there somewhere for sure, but without being familiar with your software I'm not going to do you any good.

Good luck. Maybe when someone shows you how to fix this I can get them to fix the volume on my DVD software.
