Sorry, y'all, I'm gloating! I just dusted the GT40 in that 2nd Historic Race at Rome! I didn't just keep it at bay, no..I POLISHED the GT40! Finally, all those attempts at earning gold licenses have paid off as my Datsun entered every corner with precision.

I figure it like this: the Ford GT40 is a prototype race car complete with downforce. Why didn't I think of this before? I've always attempted this race in cars without racing kits. If i was lucky, I would evade the GT40 till he caught up to me, and then I'd have to block him from passing me.

Instead, I entered a Datsun 240Z in this race, complete with racing body modification and the spex below:

Tires: Super Soft all around

Engine: Stage 3 NA tuning with sports muffler & no computer. Port & polish, balancing, and displacement done. 294 hp @ 7,500 rpm with 237 ft-lbs.@5,600 rpm.

Transmission: Stock with twin clutch and sports flywheel. Carbon shaft, too.

Suspension>

Springs: 8.9 [F], 7.7 [R]
Ride Hgt: 111 / 113mm
B. Dampers: 4 / 6
R. Dampers: 3 / 4
Camber: 2.5° / 1.6°
Toe: +0.10 / -0.05
Stabilizers: 2 / 4

Brakes 18 / 12 with racing pads.

Downforce: Max / 0.56

Limited Slip: 16/23/27

Like I said, the GT40 never got within several car-lengths of me. The closest he got was just before the Colosseum. In a post interview, the GT40 driver said “I'll get that Parnelli...next time”

No!!! The one truly evil looking Race-Mod...you can't wash it off!

In any case, it's possible to win (and play fair) if you use a well-modded '71 GT-R or 240ZG. I can't beat the GT40 with the DB6, though I spent about an hour doing so.

Also, try beating the GT40 in the 2-lap ~591hp MR race. Not so simple, if you keep it under 300hp. You'll pass all the other cars before the first ess-bend, though. Fortunately, you can use just about any sort of MR car in this race.

I just did that the other day ...

243 hp Lotus Elise Sport 135 ... won by 6 seconds against the GT40 on Rome ...
263 hp Lotus Elise Sport 190 ... Won by 15 seconds (2:28 vs 2:43) against the GT40 on Red Rock Valley ...

I don't see what the big deal is ...

Are you trying to beat the GT40 with the DB6 on Grindelwald ?

I wasn't talking about Grindelwäld. That race is easy in comparison. I'm talking about the 2nd Historic race at Rome. It's not such a big deal that I won this race, but it is a big deal that I won it without the GT40 ever kissing my bumper, understand?

Pupik I agree...the paint job is truly hideous. I even got the one with the yellow and red stripes!

I just did it with my Suzuki Cappuccino with 190hp :D

I was able to pass him only on the last corner, and won with an advantage of... 0.026s
I can match that :)

Except I never lost the lead, even on the straights :)

Only reason it was so close was because I screwed up the last corner (nice slide, but slow :p)...

Before my first try to win that race this year, the first thing I noticed before I enter the race (and assumingly we all) was the hp limit; 295hp. Why was a 305hp car in a 295hp. race?
To this day I'm still confused.
But I did defeat the GT40, but I forget which car I used.
I'll compete in that race again today, and I'm up for any challenge any of you GTP members give me.
Come give me your best shot!! :dopey:

cool :)

Maybe a bit off-topic,but now doing the GV 300 KM,with the GT-One '98,thought there were some race cars, but no.
The AI ALWAYS crashes into the GRAVEL,or they are just standing STILL anywhere on the TRACK.

Odd

Maybe you had a faster setup than me then, cos even if my driving was far from perfect, on the straights i had no chance he was much faster.
I could only get closer when braking and cornering.

Well, I put like half an hour into gearing ... but left the suspension mostly stock (removed camber, lowered ride height, increased stabilizers ... because in the hours of testing I've done, I just cannot run faster with camber. I can get it to FEEL like it's cornering faster, but my lap times always increase ... same with the stabilizers) ...

For my gearing, I made 1st and 2nd gear very tall and then ran 3rd through 5th from 6000 to 7200 RPM because it's such a narrow power curve car ...

I basically jumped out to a quick lead and, while the GT40 would catch up by the end of the straights, it never really stood a chance of passing me ... except on the last corner, of course ... :p

The GT40 kissed my bumper ? 6 seconds at 100 MPH is 880 feet, man ...

Alrite smart guy. So the first time you defeated the GT40 in that race did you get psyched or did you sit there going ‘I don't see what the big deal is’... Me, I get psyched. I yell and wake the dog up!

Ah... that's it, i haven't spent so much time with the setup. I just made a first attempt, saw that the gears were too short, used that "auto" feature to adjust them and tried again. That's when i won. :)

I think we all agree that the GT40 isn't hard to beat, but i must say that i also got impressed the 1st time i raced him, cos he's so much better than the other opponents on that race

Now you reminded me when I was doing the gold licenses... :D

And that's the whole point of this thread. No matter what you enter, the GT40 will have more power and a better pound to power ratio in most cases since it's so light and is several HP over the limit. Also, the computer drives it flawlessly. You don't see it bash into walls once or do anything stupid. So what is left? All that is left is your driving, it has to be near-perfect. You can scrape a wall perhaps, but forget about spinning and recovering your lead...the GT40 will get far ahead.

Also, I find that if the GT40 is sitting in pole position or 2nd, I won't be able to catch it. The one stupid move it makes is at the beginning of the race: if it's in 3rd, 4th, or 5th place at the start, it will slam into whoever is ahead of it and won't pass till the 2nd or 3rd corner!

I wouldn't say it's impossible to beat it if it's on the front line at the start, but it's definitely much easier if it's not ...
