Try and find an owners manual copy on the internet, or search for Opel GT maintenance.

Yeah, I know there will be need for some money to be put int oit, and i'm all for that, so don't thikn you were a jerk for saying it. :)

@ ToyoMatt, We don't have Ford Fiesta's here. :p

It was me being tired. I meant to type Ford Festiva. Yeah, I know we don't have Fiesta's here in the US. :)

Oh shush. Lol. I ment, uh, we dont get them here anymore, yeah that's right.

I'm thinking that button on the floor might be the high beams, but I'm not too sure.
That would be correct; it's the high/low beam switch.

I don't know about the GT, but the Kadett actually had a foot pump for the windshield squirters, too - look for a black rubber dome down there, too.

Same can be said about your Festiva. :p

Only reason why I remember that car was because I know someone who owns one. Even the same color(is that good or bad?).

Opel GT? that's a damn nice car.. Light, RWD, no nannies, sleek coupe.. but be prepared for pretty hefty consumption. if it is even near of my 1.6l '82 Ford, it'll need some adjustments. on the other hand, my Ford weights as much as pregnant whale, where as your GT weights.. what, under a ton?
Anyways, to me it seems that you have to take the seats and such off and start rubbing that rust off. actually, it seems to be that bad that you need to cut the floor panels off and put some fresh metal there. otherwise, it's in remarkably good shape. but, as soon as you get it running, you should keep it mint, because it is wirth of many thousand dollars.. atleast in here it would be.

You're a very lucky man!

I pulled up next to an opel GT at a red light just last week! Had trouble identifying it, but my dad was in the car with me and he knew. Does this one also have the fuel refiller cap in the middle of the boot? Looks awesome!

Paint Over Rust (POR-17) can be your friend. It's rather like epoxy paint that chemically bonds to the rust and stops it from progressing further, if you do it right.

Yes, it does, my Blitz on the front needs to be redone, as do the chrome bumpers. Me and my friend thought about welding some sheet steel to either side of the floorboard, sandwiching the rust between it.

Soon enough those sheets of steal rust through also, not to mention possible moisture that gets trapped and escalates the rusting.

Best thing to do is cut the rust out/grind it back, use a quality 'kill rust' type paint/epoxy then do your repairs. This can take quite alot of time and effort though but quick dodge fixes rarely work in the long run.

Any smaller rust spots you find that you want to stop you coat in the 'kill rust' type epoxy like Duke mentioned.

First mod!

I removed the bumperette's on the front, and painted the grille flat black.

Before.

Looks nice.

I see you got the WD-40, but I don't see any duct tape. :p

Actually, it weighs just over a ton, at 2105lbs, but, if your talking a metric tonne, then yes, its under, at 954kg(I think). :)

I talked to the guy who used own a Opel GT(his wife still have one), and he says that mechanical parts availability shouldn't be too bad. As for parts and info, he recommended a site called OpelGTSouce.com. I hope it helps. :)

Yeah, that site is pretty good, I was looking in the old Opel GT Sourse catalog I have, and they don't sell the Tri-Y race header anymore, which is a bummer, lol.

yeah, I was talking about metric tonne. and if you want to start modifying it, don't start from the engine. start from the suspension. and when you're done, I bet you'll get a lot of "WTF is that?"-looks.

I didn't know Opel's were ever sold in the US... thats kinda cool. Anyways, congrats on the first car, man. Looks good. :)

For the value of the car LEAVE IT STOCK. If you really want, get a better interior though. :D
