Who do you guys like that stuff SO much? its just cartoons from Japan.

No no no. It's so deep man. It's about life. It's really serious. You just don't understand.

How different is it from regular cartoons? Someone could incorparate Roadrunner as Deep... not serious, but deep.

Seeing as I was being sarcastic, I wouldn't know.

I think, however, part of the attraction may be the stereotypical and stylized way things are portrayed.

So why and the hell is it so popular? are people in Japan going OMG OMG Bugs bunny!!! YA!!!!!

lol... Elvis... IF they would only give that much hype over domestics... like some of us do imports... GO DODGE!!!! :)

I agree the trend of liking anime because it comes from Japan (Or whatever reason people like it) is stupid, but there is good anime...Like Cowboy Bebop, or Ronin Warriors, which I haven't seen much of since I watched it on Fox a good 10 years ago.

Anyway, it's a damn cartoon. When me and my friends talk about it, we say we're watching cartoons on TV about people with guns or big robots blowing the everloving hell out of everything.

Some of you Japanophiles might come on here and say I'm simple minded for saying anime is just a cartoon, but I'll just laugh and call you a Japanophile.

OMG dude u better run an hide do NOT ever call anime a cartoon or I'll kill you I swear. Cartoons are stupid Bugs Bunny shows like 3 minutes long but anime is a role model u can use to learn everything u ever need to know about life and the world. Anime ppl r tite I want hair clothes and a car just like that.

It never ceases to amaze me that these people don't have the attention span required to put a period after each sentence, and capitalize the next word, but they absolutely have an orgasm over a show where a fight scene consists of 5 minutes of still shots punctuated by groaning and gasping. Not to mention that the plot line of your average anime epic advances at a rate that makes glacial drift look fast. Half the characters look the same, as well.

Anime is the most cheaply made crap around. The animation tricks they use are so lazy as to be insulting - 3 minutes of a single cel, with only the character's mouth moving, and not even in any rhythm. Another 2 minutes of 2 guys in the air, kicking each other, with no movement but a flashing background. Ooooh, "motion" made by sliding a single, fixed foreground cel across the background, which moves - slightly - in the opposite direction. Your average Betty Boop short took more animation effort to produce than half an hour of DBZ or Gundam. And had about twice as much plot.

You don't get sarcasm, do you?

That's because you don't get sarcasm. Trust me. It was sarcastic.

Screw where it's from, and I've heard that the Japanese call their own stuff cartoons. Disney is supposedly an influence on their cartoons. We like it because the more stories tend to be expressive, adult, intelligent and bold than most of the censor friendly garbage US cartoons that few other than the 700 Club would find worth talking about. It's simply superior to a majority of what's aired in the US.

I assume you guys have seen more than robotech, ranma and astro boy.

Thundercats and Voltron were Anime if memory serves,.... I loved those shows,.... but I was also 10 years old :p

They're cominc books on a screen. I don't get how the anim.. even comes into the name because animation is almost non existent. See Duke's post.

I don't think thundercats was anime, might have been. the only thing i would disagree with is labelling a japanese style cartoon intended for a US audence first as anime. as far as worshipping the stuff, i don't.

call 'em cartoons. i don't care. i'm saying they're superior based on plot, story, diversity, and so on.

Are you kidding? Maybe under time-lapse photography, something like a plot might be evident. But my kids watch a lot of stuff that they play during the anime segment on Cartoon Network, and the story lines take for-freakin-EVER to advance. I mean weeks can go on, and we're still watching the same martial arts competition or wierd psychic aliens fighting.

And to whoever asked me if I was being sarcastic, look at the difference in grammar between the first and second paragraphs.

On second thought, that doesn't rule out the "mood swing" theory. So, yes, I was being sarcastic.

Story lines that aren't set in a few days are bad, I take it. Ok. No one's saying cartoon network' anime is all good. how much have you actually seen of anime in general?

I dont see the sarcasm in the post and you guys freak out... I just thought Neon Duke here was a little... well weird. but obviously wrong. Anyway I totally agree with Milifile, they ARE comicbooks on a screen, well so was Peanuts... but they really moved, I thought japaneese people were supposed to have GOOD work ethics?? well obviously they hired the wrong people to make the Anime shows.

are the majority of the negative opinions about frame rates?

You guys can hate or like something for any reason you please, but you come off as very ignorant of the subject, seeming to base most of your opinion on cartoons that don't represent the whole or were possibly designed with short cuts. It's not Disney, thank goodness. Japan doesn't punish its people with lame end jokes, don't do drug ads, and stupid musicals. They'd probably keep hercules vices if they made a cartoon about him. we make a tv show with no similarity to the classic imagery of the character, and an absolution of his role in his families death. and a damn cartoon with singing thrown in.

the point is, american cartoons are largely insulting.

I LOVE disney... lol guess I'm TOO American, Mabey I should move... but wait... I'm Already HERE! you sound very ignorant by saying American Cartoons are a insult. If you dont like it, leave! wont hurt me none at all!

Japanese animation you guys have seen on american cable networks are usually older shows with dated graphics and strange chronological progression. A fine example of this is Dragon Ball Z. DBZ can go from passing weeks to a few minutes in a 30 minute episode.

The cream of the crop can't be shown on US Cable Networks where little kids can watch. Anime like Akira, Ninja Scroll, or Samurai X would be a place to start if you want to look into what you don't see on TV. These movies take years to finish. Intricate plots, subplots, real dialogue... Take a good movie acted out by people, and translate to animation. What you have then is a couple of the titles I've listed above. I definitely don't recommend what I've just listed for children; but for those of you out there with a more open mind...it's worth a try. I won't guarantee anything personally, but I happen to had myself hooked through those titles.

You also have to understand that the sheer volume of DBZ would often require shortcuts just to keep the series alive. Well over 130 episodes of animation lasting 30 minutes long. Do the math. A productive team of artists and storyboard designers might spend 6-8 months creating a couple episodes. I'm not a fan of DBZ though.

The best anime has to offer come in movies...
