I hate Anime

I dotn think cartoons should eb realistic, thats why they are animated... if they want to be realistic, they should'nt be realistic, but when you take it to the extream where one second a bomb only shakes a ship, to the next second where it blows it COMPLETLY up, thats stupid. just plain stupid.

I get that point, but GITD is a rather bad example to get on this. I remember that the physics on GITS are very good, taking account on the fact that the characters are cybernetically enhaced.

I like the style of anime. Some of the artwork is very striking and dramatic. It's highly stylized (who's eyes are half the size of their head?) and yet realistic in an embelished way. I'm attracted to it. But like neon says, the story lines are so dorky, at least in what I have seen. I end up embarassed by how lame it is. I picture some pimply-faced Japanese guy thinking he has some deep message and liken it to Trekkies or Star Wars nerds. I'd rather watch Samurai Jack, but I would be interested in seeing some good anime.

These are great anime that deserve attention to those who hate anime to at least have some respect for it. once you watch some of these you might change your attitude.

Some plots are dumb yet some are mind numbing and deep. most of you wouldnt know what anime is really like until you watch it enough.

Why? Why give someone else's opinion that much power over you? Why identify so strongly with something outside yourself that you cannot tolerate criticism of it?

I could somewhat understand your feelings if you were an artist who had created one of these stories, and it was being criticized heavily. But in that case it is something personal that you you made that is under attack.

But to get so attached to and dependent upon something someone else made, I cannot understand. Look outside your otaku world and realize that there is so much more to life. Or, if it truly means that much to you, the go after it. Become an artist/writer and make your own story.

And where would one find these? Like I said, visually I like it. I'm always into any kind of cartoon (and it is a kind of cartoon) because it's strikingly unreal and that's a nice break from regular TV which all seems the same too me.

As of now the only place I have to see anime is Anime Unleashed ont TechTV. In fact, thinking about this thread, I watched some last Friday night and, I have to say, everything neon duke said about anime was true. It was impossible to follow, very slow going and boring, and probably the worst thing of all was the shoddy sci-fi aspect. A space battle was about to take place and the people on the ship were powering up all their space battle equipment. The problem was the heavy names of the weapons that were obviously supposed to sound very high-tech, but made absolutely no sense at all. I mean, a rudimentary understanding of physics would help make it marginally believable. I am good at suspending disbelief, but I just couldn't get over how ridiculous this was. The seriousness with which it was presented only made it absurd and embarassing.

So in all seriousness, I want someone to tell me what is good anime and where I can see it.

tech tv anime is cheap......(its not the best stuff) you can find the animes i listed in stores like Best Buy and Circut City. Its hard to watch them because all of them are to mature for TV. You might want to rent them.

Also those tech tv anime you watch are Sci-fi because its on tech tv. they only put tech related anime on there. The list i gave above are most mostly movies so they should be some-what easier to follow.

I guess some people are just compelled to "Japanimation" (don't call it 'cartoons' please, stuff made by the WB or Marvel, THOSE are cartoons)
DBZ is the worst example to show what anime is to newbies of the ever-growing community of anime fans. Take a hold of say, Neon Genesis Evangelion and then form your opinions. I''ve been going at japanimation for as long as I can remember, I don't block out all other things out there though. You must have however a certain type of mentality to watch any anime series, a fully compatible mindset.
i.e: I know how bad DBZ can be yet I still like it, after taking the patience to learn how the authors work and all that you know what to expect.
Lowering your standards just enough to get into it goes a LONG way. After a while, you can get your standards back up wherever you want them, since you'll have an idea of what anime is and can say "this one's great" or "that one's dumb!" instead of generalizing the whole deal with saying "Anime sucks".

this is true. and I must say, it would be "learn" not just lowering standards. at least in the case of some people. and yeah, it gets difficult to see some real anime in TV, but, well, would you milefile bother if you had to download it? because that is one goood way to get some really cool anime. buying it? it is unusually expensive, mind you. if you have a fast connection, it is really cool. if not, it is still good. Im on 56K and I still download anime. hey, If you want, I can tell you some links. that is, if you dont mind downloading it

Same here, I mostly dig for AMVs which can be pretty heavy sometimes. But they're well worth the wait.
I too would say that the web is the best place to get your anime, not to mention when you're done with a series, there is still fanfiction of that series that can be read.

But you have to realize Pokemon, and thoes Anime is the only Anime that MOST of America is able to watch. So that is what we are going to base our opnion on. If thoes Anime are crappy why in the world did the Japaneese people send them over to us? Why dident they send a better one, such as the few you listed above. You problay wont be able to answer this, most people wont. Its just what they did, and most people dont want to waste the time, or space on there computer to download Anime, expecially kids. So before you blame us for there Mistake of sending over stupid Anime, Look what we are subject to. Why dotn you right a hate mail to them Japanese telling them to send over good Anime.

Most animes that are sent outside of Japan are sent either because they suck and don't sell in Japan or they are extremely old. DBZ was HUGE in it's time, now it's outdated and the storyline is all too known not just in Japan, but the entire World. I wouldn't say Pokemon is anime but whatever, besides the demographic target isn't you... or me... or anybody over 11 years old for that matter! Pokemon is purely for kids. Yu-Gi-Oh is quite an interesting case, the anime sucks yet the game itself is growing strong, I like to think of it as "Pokemon" for the early teens.
Overall the excuse of "it's not reaching me" is wearing thin IMO, I'm in the same exact situation, yet I look for anime, I go to Manga stores (which mind you, there aren't many around my place) I surf the web, I talk to other people who are into anime and go from there. In a nutshell: anime, real anime, is like looking for treasure, it's there, you just gotta look for it, granted it may be tough to find sometimes but when you do find it, it's so good!

Pokemon was sent ALL OVER THE ****ING WORLD because it was an INCREDUBLY BIG BUSINESS. pokemon is NOT ONLY anime, but a game/movies/anime/toy/stuff package that gave nintendo MILLIONS OF MILLIONS of dollars. same for yu gi oh and same for many animes that reach us over here. most of that kinda anime that is brought here is a business strategy. or, as sleek stratos said, is really old, like DB. I understand the point that if you cant see good things on what reaches you, you wont want to look for more stuff, but in here enters if you trust us people who tell you that not all the anime is THAT bad, and that there are in fact some that is EXCELENT. a message was sent to all the world in the last oscar, where spirited way won over shrek and the other disney stuff, and ice age, wich were all REALLY ****ING COOL. now many many MANY people are going to theaters all around the world (yeah, in mexica is in theaters too) to see what all the fuss about these big-eyed characters is all about. maybe a message THAT massive is needed so people will see that there is REALLY good anime into all the crap that gets to TV. its the VERY same as in TV series AND movies. the difference is that TV series and movies, good or bad, reach you. as sleek stratos said, if you want, ALL anime in the world, good and bad, is available. you just have to kjnow where to look for it. youd have to develop a certain interest in it, by watching some anime that really gets you hooked. that is what spirited way is doing with MANY people around the world. from seeing that, they'll develope an interest and will want more. maybe you should watch some of the movies and series listed here, to see if some of them gets you intrested.
