Most animes that are sent outside of Japan are sent either because they suck and don't sell in Japan or they are extremely old.
DBZ was HUGE in it's time, now it's outdated and the storyline is all too known not just in Japan, but the entire World. I wouldn't say
Pokemon is anime but whatever, besides the demographic target isn't you... or me... or anybody over 11 years old for that matter! Pokemon is purely for kids.
Yu-Gi-Oh is quite an interesting case, the anime sucks yet the game itself is growing strong, I like to think of it as "Pokemon" for the early teens.
Overall the excuse of "it's not reaching me" is wearing thin IMO, I'm in the same exact situation, yet I look for anime, I go to Manga stores (which mind you, there aren't many around my place) I surf the web, I talk to other people who are into anime and go from there. In a nutshell:
anime, real anime, is like looking for treasure, it's there, you just gotta look for it, granted it may be tough to find sometimes but when you do find it, it's
so good!
