I have $600 to $700 for a cockpit, which one to buy?

If I was getting a pre-made cockpit for around that, I'd probably go for an Rseat or an Obutto.

On the other hand, with that money you could probably build quite a nice one out of 80/20 tubing and still have a bit left over for extras.

Obutto r3volution is right at 700$. Shipping would put you over though. You could get the obutto ozone though and come in under budget. Simseats in the U.S., might have something you would like too. They have several different ones to choose from and will make any adjustments you want. I just ordered a triple monitor stand from them and for the price it is great. They worked with me and made some changes and it's exactly what i was wanting.

Yes I looked at simseats, I like what they have,
Thanks

I have the rSeat EVO V3 and really like it. But if I didn't already have a cockpit and was buying one today, I would get the Obutto R3volution. It has a very nice triple monitor stand that is not attached to the cockpit base. I am even trying to get the monitor stand separate from the cockpit, but they don't sell it separate from the cockpit...yet.

They want to much for shipping, it would be $900 shipped to me, so there out,

If it all possible what you might want to do is actually try one out.

What may be very comfortable for one person, may not be for another person.

The other thing to consider when buying one is future expandability.

For example if you are on a console now, do you intend to expand to PC?

In that case, you may need to add supports down the line for additional shifters, peripherals like button boxes, etc, not to mention triple screens.

Any ready-made rig you purchase will have compromises for your particular case.

The trick is to select the one with the fewest compromises that apply to you.

After looking at all the retail rigs I could find, I ended up building my own of 8020.
I did not suggest that as an alternative for you because it exceeds your stated budget requirements.
I will be posting pictures of it over the thanksgiving weekend.

I don't have away to test anything I live in a small town, I just want to make sure I can fit in the seat, I am 215 pounds and a 42 inch waist.
Thanks

That is where you have to be careful. Many of the ready-made rigs come with high-bolstered seats.
They look very nice, and work great in real cars to keep you in place when pulling hi Gs.

I am 6.2, but smaller in size than you, and I found some of the seats to be too constraining for me.
Fortunately in my case I was able to try several different rigs/seats at a trade show before-hand.
So in the end I went with a seat that reclines and has relatively low hip bolsters.

There are people on this forum and others that have purchased rigs with high bolstered seats (rSeats for example) that are close to you size and say they are comfortable.

You might want to visit the rSeat thread and review that, there were several posts regarding this there.

Thanks I will do that.

Like you I am a bigger guy (6-2 225 40" waist) and had a hard time finding a seat that I could fit in. I bought just the frame from rSeat and modded it to accept a Corbeau FX-1 Wide racing seat (29501w). It's very comfortable and total package was under $650( year ago pricing). I added a T500RS, th8 RS shifter, Buttkicker BK-GR, and a tush-cush and I am in GT-5 heaven.

We're did you buy the seat? Do you have any pictures?
Thanks

I've been looking at the:

RSEAT,

RACE ROOM RR1000/RR2000

GT OMEGA.

I would like to choose one with the most leg room as I am six foot four.

There are so many sim rigs on the market it's hard to choose one.

Here are the pictures I promised of my rSeat with a few mods.

1. Put a piece of 2x10 board under the pedal deck. I painted the board black and it's held in place by wood screws through existing holes on the pedal plate. It keeps the pedal deck from moving especially when pressing on the brake pedal.

I kept having a problem with the pedal deck and wheel moving away from me during use no matter how much I tightened the knob under the seat which is supposed to hold it in place, so I put a strap around it to keep it from moving. It is an old bicycle pedal toe strap (3 of them) and it keeps everything from moving.

The seat cushion has very little padding so I added another 1 1/2 inches of foam padding like you would use for packaging. You can't see it in the picture, but it really helps for those marathon racing sessions. What you can see is the mesh lumbar support. I think I got it at Wal-Mart or maybe an auto parts store. It was made for cars so it works great.

Another thing I had to mod was the wheel deck. It is drilled for the Fanatec 4 bolt pattern, but I wanted to use my CSR Elite without the extra bracket, so I had to drill the 3 holes to mount it.

I really like the rSeat and would highly recommend it. I have spent many hours in it and it is very comfortable. I am 5' 11" tall and weigh about 210 with a 38+" waist. It is not too tight for me, but I don't think I can get much bigger. It is rock solid and once you get everything setup it doesn't move.

This is what I use, its a Scat ProCar Sportsman Seat, not as fancy as the Corbeau previously-mentioned by VetteZR1 but has lots of room, and is reclinable.

FYI: The rSeat frame is designed for seats that have side mounts (most racing seats do).
So this seat would not work with it because it mounts from the bottom.

However, the Playseat Evo seats mount from the bottom. So if you decide to retrofit a rig for different seat, verify the seat mounting scheme prior to selecting the seat.

There is thread here in the hardware section somewhere that is dedicated to after-market seats, cannot recall the title, seek and ye shall find.
