GT5 had me drooling for 3 main reasons, more customization options for cars(but so many less for wheels, sadly:sick:), a drift mode(and decent drifting during races as well), and the addition of user bgm....i mean i can only listen to so much lenny kravitz and that daishi kaiko guy or whatever....now i have my music exported and playing in the background...but a weird thing has happened..you see i have my ps3 plugged into 5.1 surround sound via a digital optical cable and into the tv via standard rgb(i will buy an hdmi cable, it just came w/ the ps3, and i was so excited when i opened it....etc...). i have the sys settings so that dual sound output comes from tv and surround sound, and it works perfectly for movies, and music, and menu sounds...but it will not work for gt5..the only sound i get is from the tv, and while it's "virtual surround" its pretty impressive, it is not 5.1 surround, and it is for lack of a better word, distracting from the immersive experience i enjoy while playing the game...my cockpit sux(it consists of 1 dining room chair w/ a pillow on its back, sitting on the floor so that my back is where my butt usually is, and w/ my dfgt fastened to a keyboard shelf clamped between two folding chairs), my tv isn't the largest(although i think a 32" widescreen sufficient for being only 4.5-5' away) and i have to share the livng room at times w/ a 3yr old...my luxury was my surround sound, and if i can't hear Lil Boosie over my shoulders, when i'm trying to perfect my reverse entries on Trial Mountain, I feel robbed of my experience.:ouch:

If you're sure that you've hooked everything up correctly, I don't really know where to start.

Have you tried connecting your PS3 directly to the TV, and the sound system to the TV's audio line-out?

Though it's probably not the problem, pick up an HDMI cable as soon as you can, if only to rule one possible issue.

Other than that, I don't know, but hopefully it's something that just slipped your mind, and is fairly easy to remedy.

Good luck!

I run hdmi to my tv, optical to my Sony receiver. As far as I know, I don't have hdmi selected to run sound. Mine works fine. I dont think I have my hdmi enabled to run sound.

Have you gone into your audio settings on GT5 homepage and told it to play in surround sound ? When you add to the play list i think you have to tell it to play in surround sound too or it plays in normal mode.
Somewhere in the audio or BGM settings you will find a selection of output choice tick the one that best suits your set up .
Your home system maybe set to play in 5.1 but unless the signal from the output device (PS3) is sending it in 5.1 it won't or not to my knowledge it won't unless you have a system that upgrades the sound as it recieves it ?
