You know that a lot of chassis are glued and not spot welded these days? Cool stuff, try a search on it.

wouldn't that require the tuning shop to take apart the chasis and reglue everything vs just spot welding the seams? we're talking about chasis refresh being only on used cars lol...not on new cars

So, to at least attempt to get back on-topic.... has anyone figured out if these damaged/worn engines can be repaired or tuned up?

What concerns me most is that a used R32 GTS-t with 87,xxx km has the same hp as in GT3 new. (220) Used cars seem to have a big advantage over buying a new one. They are cheap, and the only downside is the chassis refresh. Furthermore, I saw two of the same cars with 20,xxxkm difference. Same hp.
 
Can we get an update on the 'damaged; mtor that the thread start was running?
Any more reduction in HP? Has the cars ability to rev been decreased?

Can you do a chassis refresh after you buy a car? Do cars after a certain time get rusted since there is the option of chassis refresh?
 
as far as I know you can do it on used cars to make them stiffer, just like if they were new.

Rust? well I think you're pushing reality a bit there ;)
 
The sounds interesting, wonder if they use an engine model like Richard Burns Rally (they took and built an engine virtually and gave each part of the engine a wear factor and the engine would break realistically instead of being totally time/mileage based)?

On the subject of Fords, does it actually show the oil under the Chevrolets (rust comes free, too)? <smirks>

Anyways This Rx7 had well over 87.000 kms on clock when i bought it.
it was well worn in and only needed an oilchange.
it lost 29ps with fresh oil in it the whole time I was abusing.
from 378ps in one state of tune down to 359ps UNRECOVERABLE by oil change or anything.

Like I said the other Rx7 has done just as many Kms since purchase but has been treated nicely with no drifting and redlining and it has NOT lost power
 
So I'll just need to watch the redline. Great. I got so used to pushing it all the way to redline most of the time (that's generally where the power is).

Before you lost that power, were you pushing the engine just to the redline, or well into it? Constantly hitting the rev-limiter?
 
I don't want to start an uproar,but yes..it would be about 37,000 Corvette and even THAT is pushing it a little. Cause if you think about it..even though it may be used..it still has about a $100,000 engine inside of it >_>. Formula Atlantic 4A-GE o.o...this is like a racing engine that still remains Natural Aspirated and I believe it pushes out about somewhere between 270-300 horsepower? Or maybe it was somewhere between 300-350 ~_~. Well..anyways..that's rather funny though,finding Shuichi Shigeno's concept car for sale in the Used section XD! Ah,that reminds me,yeah yeah..I know what you guys are referring to about the whole horsepower loss thing @_@. That happened to my AE86 (Shigeno Version) in GT3 after I would do a free run of about 65 laps. I would lose horsepower. Now I couldn't honestly tell you if that was from putting more miles on it,or the oil going bad from me racing NONSTOP like that,but I did go from an original 385 horsepower to now,371 ;_;. I can feel the difference in that little amount of horsepower,but surprisingly..after that little loss of horsepower,even without changing anything after the loss,I was able to control the car a little better ^.^. Kinda like putting all the best tuning parts on the RX-7 (FD3S) and getting it past 500 horsepower,then going out and driving it,theeeen coming back and tuning it down to about 375 and able to drive it better =D! Don't worry,tuning it down isn't always a bad thing ^.^;. But then again..I'm not really much for speed o.o...or all that horsepower anyways -.-'

never really thought about that as an extra in gt3 :indiff:
i was under the impression that it was a bug ....just as the cars having no working front suspension in the PAL version :crazy: (always at the same height + rear always to low :ouch: .....don't believe me? ...look at the jag XJ220)
 
To test the engine damage theory can someone just tape the trottle so that it just revvs for a few hours. Before you do this check the HP and the mileage. Go into the dirt and just park against a wall and let it just revvv nonstop to see what happens to the HP.
It will be interresting to see the results. :)
 
Damage update:
I do oil change after every endurance race and my car still loses about 3 bhp after each race. (The car has about 1840 km on it right now)

The chassis of a Lotus Elise is glued together. It's much stiffer then just welding it together.
I believe that's because Aluminum (I KNOW that's spelled wrong) gets weaker when you heat it up. I'm not sure how correct I am on that, so if I'm wrong, please post the correction and some proof.

That can de true, i don't know so much about it myself.
 
This is all off topic but he is right. They used glue and pop rivits to hold it together because welding that much alluminum causes it to get weak. The bad thing is if that car gets into a wreck it is basically written off right away. They are extremly expensive to repair when damaged.

I think it would be easier to spot engine damage if someone bought a new car, changed the oil on it and then tape the trottle so that it's at redline all the time. This way it would prove it is not the mileage of the car that give the power loss.

Also in GT3, I had a Lancer Evo 6 TME as a second car. I tuned it a lot up to 500 hp (no more and no less), and runned it A LOT. Right now it has 1733 miles on it and still the motor is at 500hp. Why? Because I took the habit to go change the oil very very very often. ( Almost after every race) So this way the hp didn't took a drop. I never abused it as I did with other cars as the Calsonic Skyline JGTC which I run for the long JGTC championship in which you can't change the oil.

HP boost after refreshing the chassis? That's a new one. How much of a boost?
