I got the steering wheel today and I must say it's a big difference from years of using a controller and transitioning to a driving wheel. Any advice to help a fellow player is greatly appreciated :) thanks

Get a good setup, and start driving, and then drive some more!

And turn off Skid recovery!

Yeah I did turn off all the aids and I must say I'm pretty impressed of how the wheel reacts to weight transfer. I guess starting with brake and then turn would be a good idea cause I'm all over the place lol

When I got my wheel (3 months ago) I had to start all over again, after being stuck to a controller since Gt1!

There's nothing more to say other than practice practice practice.

Also, I'd recommend trying to get used to not pushing the brake to the floor when going into a turn, even a really hard one. You have the increased sensitivity of the pedals - make use of them. You could turn off ABS if you wanted, but not forcing the car to use ABS will make a big difference in your speed.

As for getting used to the wheel, start with low powered cars. CASTROL Supra or lower, those kind of things. Once you get used to driving in those, start working your way up.

And don't touch the X1 until you've got that down.

Lol see funny thing is I drove the X1 first at the Indy circuit and did fine the only thing is after the apex the steering wheel would wobble a little bit taking the turn at 260 mph lol **** is gnarly ass hell.

Eh... well that's a Super Speedway. Also, the DFGT has one heck of a deadzone, especially with the X1.

Do NOT let go of the wheel, even in a straight line, when using the X1, or any other car for that matter.

Dead zone meaning the small space in the middle when driving straight yeah it's kinda annoying how a little nudge of the wheel make the car go out of control or is it just me?

The deadzone really isn't that bad, admittedly. It's the ability for the wheel to hold it there. The force feedback motor is horrible at keeping the wheel at 0-degrees.

Make sure you have a comfortable setup to mount the wheel.

drive the X1 to really familiarize yourself with it, the good thing is it will never spin out from acceleration like other cars, you just have to keep it on the road which isn't terribly hard with a wheel

I really want to get a wheel. I'm sure that driving with one makes this game so much more fun and enjoyable!

I would do the new k car seasonal event, start out slow. Then do sport truck. Then ff,fr,4wd challenges. Finally lambo!

(Re)run all the licence tests.
Gold them if you alredy haven't , if you have , then go back to beat them.
Compare and submit them to Tosk's Gold Junkies site - link in my signature.

Had been using DS1-2-sixaxis for Gran Turismo since first one.
Started GT5 with DFGT , the licence tests took 6 days to complete gold grade.
After that I turned force feedback to minimum and in the next 2 months I got used to the wheel.
2 months later I set force feedback to maximum (10) and I'm enjoying the better feedback.

16 days ago I golded the licences using Guitar Hero guitar controller. :sly:

Even now I'm rerunning the licence tests to learn the to use the wheel more efficiently.

Turn active steering off & it won't shake much at all.

Some technical advice:

The wheels pedals need to be calibrated every time you start the game. This is done by fully pressing down both pedals. It doesn't matter where you do it: you can do it while the welcome screen is loading or when you first take out to the track.

Sometimes the brake gets stuck and you can see just a bit red in the brake indicator of the HUD. You'll also notice that you're going a lot slower than normally. This can be fixed by unplugging the pedals from the wheel, plugging them back again and calibrating the pedals again. This seems to be a "feature" rather than a broken wheel as many, including myself, have had similar issues.

And some driving advice:

Do not overturn the wheel in corners, you'll just be slower. If the front tires go even slightly red, you're way over the limit already. This is especially important when driving an FF car which tend to understeer already because of the drivetrain.

Castrol Supra GT500 a low power car? Yeah right... If you really want to learn to actually drive and understand cars' behavior in corners, under braking etc. you should start with some real low-power stuff at around 200hp/400PP with soft suspension and comfort tires. And remember that each drivetrain has its own charasteristic so you naturally have to drive them a bit differently.

But all in all, have fun! You'll find the game (and any other driving game) so much better with a proper wheel in your hands. :)

Thanks guys for the much needed advice I think I'm going to go for gold in all my licenses before heading out to the track then star racing at beginner level again
