So I refreshed the page in the GT5 section and I got redirected like it was going to go to an ad, but instead it took me to this site where a Windows warning popped up saying there might be spyware/malicious software etc. and I exited out of it. All of a sudden, it starts doing this "scan" only it's not in a seperate window it's in IE and I couldn't close it. Finally I closed IE and I'm doing a virus scan. Is there any way to know if it came from the site or somewhere else?:scared::scared::scared:

EDIT: Here the site

DO NOT GO TO THIS SITE!!! IT'S JUST FOR THE MODS TO LOOK AT!!!

A few days ago, I got this, too, and it happened a couple times in fairly quick succession. I was very relieved to find that it did not happen again. Obviously, it's just a gimmick and isn't actually scanning anything, but it is disturbing that you can't view your window in Firefox until you choose one of the options in the fake message box that appears. :yuck:

I also had the same thing happen.
It was called AV Personal or Personal AV.
Aholes....

My virus scan finished about 1 A.M. (Yes I have a lot of software on my computer ) and it turned up clean, so yay! it didn't infect my computer!

No, it won't affect your computer unless you install the software, but after doing some research on these guys it looks like they specialize in sneaking their way into some of the larger ad networks - it appears that the New York Times, eBay, and MySpace have been affected as well. Thanks for the heads-up, here, I will let the networks I work with know about this. 👍

So that's what that bloody thing was that I got earlier today... Luckily I didn't click on a thing, not even the x button... I went into the task manager, and ended Firefox's process, and then ran a full virus scan, which turned up nothing.

So I just got it like 20 seconds ago... They tried to get all ninja on my computer but I was like OH NO U DIDNT!!!!

But yeah, it gave me a quick fright, but then I realized I was only on a web page and haven't downloaded anything so all is good. I was logged in also.. Is it possible for premo people to get it? Or am I just being dumb and I was logged off.

Bad news... I got a virus on my computer. I don't know if it came from that site or from IGN because I went there and I got this warning..... So.... I don't know. I may have to reformat my computer to get rid of it because I can't seem to find it anwhere :(. So anyways, wish me luck :)

I've had that happen before, it's called "scareware". It makes people think that there's actually a virus infecting your computer, when in reality it's just crying wolf. It tries to make the computer download the software and it ploys you to commence the download. Like when you try to close it, it tries to worry you by saying "computer slow down detected" to try and make you reconsider it. If you do fall for it, the same program will annoy you and infect your computer until you find a way to remove it.

I wish I could make the server where these kinds of ads originate from just spontaneously explode. And permanently scar the dweebs that make these kinds of viruses.

Just thought I'd mention that I got "thing" a couple of seconds ago whilst I browsing Syntax Error's Photography Thread.
