You can send it to Sony but it will cost you ~$140 U.S to get it fixed. It WILL YLOD again...and again...and again. I have "reflowed" my 60gb for about the 20th time last weekend and have been doing it for nearly two years now. I do my own repair but the assembly/reassembly is really starting to take a toll on the old "Fatty". The ribbon cable to the Blu-ray drive is starting to delaminate where it connects to the motherboard. Before long I will have to replace the cable if I want to keep repairing it myself. I don't use it that often as I have two slim PS3's that are utilized. If you are not willing to do the repair yourself then save the $140 and save up for a slim. I have been following the YLOD threads in GTPlanet for several years now and I can tell you there is no real fix. The problem with the first generation PS3's has to do with the heat generated by the CPU and GPU chipsets and the solder joints that hold them. The solder used in the motherboard is "Green" and "Earth Friendly" and is not lead based or otherwise known as ROHS compliant. This is because laws in most countries (US, etc) consider the PS3 a kids toy and cannot use the lead based solder.
