I know I'm new, but how does one become a Mod?

Seriously whats with the burning desire to become a mod? Im not a mod and to be honest I dont care. I came to :gtplanet: to get some friends and share opinions and read news on GT5 not to try and become a moderator.

!

Those law abiding citizens must follow the speed limit too then :sly:.

No warning or infractions....errr, I always know what the speed limit is ;)

The eleventh commandment is "thou shalt not get caught".

It was going perfectly until I got clocked by a stealth officer in Wales on an empty national speed limit dual carriageway but they come off in February :p

I always know what the speed limit is, I just forget to pay attention to the speedo. Yeah, that sounds about right.

Nope, I always know what my speed is too as well as where other road users are and where the road is going. It also helps being honest if you do get pulled up for straying outside the rules regardless of the situation.

I've always wanted to become a Moderator/Administrator on a major networking site, just like GTPForums. I just want to be there to help the community if things go wrong, and be there for when things go right too. ;) Meh, *posh english accent* "'Tis up to the Sir Jordan, founder of this miraculous place, for he shall twort, in happiness with his appointed one.....Amen!"

Just help out the best you can normally, helping people post youtube videos, pointing them in the right direction, reporting posts if needs be. Most of the mod's "interventions" don't require mod powers. So long as you try not to go too far, people can get annoyed by self appointed mods.

I don't think there's too much more moderating that needs to be done around here.

You seem to be going about it the wrong way. 💡

I'm guessing that a normal member doesn't see a great deal of the moderating we do. Obviously, some things are public, but most of it is behind the scenes.

When I was your age (not too long ago, before I matured more) I always thought that moderating was epic...turns out I was just a kid with one way of thinking. Back when I played runescape I always had to be the moderator and administrator for the clans I was in, I did become those positions and did create several websites (forgotten all the HTML I used to know). Compared to this site, the clans were run by 12-15 year old who txt spk (I used to until I signed up here) and have no brains or good design ideas.

Since I joined here, I matured more than I already was (was always a smart and good kid) and have grown to realise that jobs around the world need to be done by the right people. If Jordan has mods on here, well, they do what they are supposed to do and they do it well as it is their 'job'. Am I employed to do the job? No, I can help out just like everyone else here but by no means do I do the job for them.

It is like when I am working and I ask to scan someones 'reward card' as it is known here (a card scanned to rack up points in hope of winning something [points are from grocery shopping]) and the people do half the job themselves and/ or take the card scanning into their own hands. Basically leaning over the counter, reaching around in front of me to scan the card and then thinking they are awesome for doing it. Sure, it makes it easier for me but it pisses me off as I figure they don't think I can do my job properly or they feel they have the right to start taking over when they don't. Not the best example, but you get the idea.

So mate, when you grow up/ mature you will realise, just having a Blue/ Bluer name doesn't make you awesome, it makes you feel awesome but really, you are that same kid with not much understanding of a whole lot yet. Trust me, you wont want to be a mod in 2-3 years time, I can almost guarantee.

Well I stuffed that (:banghead:) chance with a 9 year old thread, in which I posted. Didn't know I wasn't allowed to do that, didn't think of it as a spam post. Meh, too late now. My fault! :dopey: + :( = :guilty:

Yes, and I'm going to have to do that, and a lot better than I have before.

OOOOOOOhhhhh, yeah! Infractions don't get you any higher on that ladder, that's for sure.

Don't make me bring the age/maturity subject up again. You know how much it ticks me off. :boggled:

EDIT: Anyone like the new font I'll probably be using from now on?

...and until you get over that attitude, there's no chance of being a mod here I would think.

Didn't know I wasn't allowed to do that, didn't think of it as a spam post.
It's not that you're not allowed to revive old threads. The annoying part is when you revive old threads and add absolutely nothing to the discussion whatsoever. And adding nothing to a discussion is, essentially, spam.

And if you want your posts to be ignored, continue using orange. Damn near impossible to read...

Yes, and I'm going to have to do that, and a lot better than I have before.
You seem to be trying to change the way you post in order to be more mod like, so most of your posts will be that of a young person (which you are), interspersed with pseudo mod like posts which will endup a bit of a mish mash and won't get you anywhere. Post as you all the time, and if modship happens, it'll happen, if it doesn't, it won't.

I'm unaware of any current mod who actively wanted to be a mod. We were just helping out when we were normal members and Jordan spotted that, and used us (in a nice way).

Easily annoyed does not equal mod material.

Nope.

I guess not. I'm not trying to say it's easy at all, just the team never seems strained from the outside. You guys do a great job.

The mods have been here and in their jobs for a long time.
They "mesh" well. And They completely keep this thing the BEST GT forum around.

Aother thing to remember, is that if you continue in a quest for Quality over Quantity in your posting. Don't get drawn into flame wars. And bring to the attention of the mods glaring violations of the AUP, (don't be a tattle tale over stupid stuff).
We have people from all over the world here, and from the very young, to old timers like me.
Consider that not everyone here has English (The King's or the American version) as a first language. Yet we seem to communicate well.
I've been here since '02 and this is the longest running, most populated, friendliest Gran Turismo dedicated forum on the net.
Other forums have come and gone, and come back again. As have members...
But I dare say that just about everyone that has strayed over to other forums is still active here, even if they just lurk and read, never posting.

I was not saying it to tick you off, I was saying it as the honest truth, you never, ever seem to listen to anyone when they say things will change in the next 5 years, even 3. It will happen despite what you think.

Also, I know what you are doing and I don't know if it is just me but here I go (not meaning to be offensive at all).
Lately, within the last year the kids here at GTP (under 15 year olds) have decided that changing your text is cool, to be honest, I really don't think it is. It, again, doesn't make you any more superior and makes you look, I dunno, immature? (Not sure if thats the right word for it). Not to mention that bright colours go terribly on any reading background, including black and especially white and grey.

EDIT: Mods, don't bring down the hammer on me for speaking my mind, (just covering my ass here) :D.

Na. Really when I think about it, I'm happy the way I am. :) Just as long as I don't screw up again (I think I'm on last chance status) I'll be happy being a normal member. :D

Yeah, my hands moved before my mind. Have to think before posting from now on. Thanks for the font tip too. 👍

Really. Huh, I'm certainly not deliberately trying to do it (that's what she said [I had to say that]).

My favorite color is Orange, that's why I changed my font. Not to be cool, just because I like it. What if I try a Maroon colour?

EDIT: Now I've got this Infraction, I'll be the last choice for a mod. Like I said, when I think about it, I'm happy the way I am. I would love, though, to donate to the site, and even buy Premium, but I haven't got a credit card. Any other way I can get it? I think you can use those Pre-Paid, Visa gift card things you pick up from Target, or Big W.

Easily annoyed does not equal mod material.

I never used to get annoyed as easily. I used to just accept all flack I coped. Then I tried to defend myself....it doesn't work. I just can never win an argument, ever if I'm right. I've started to go back to putting up with everything.

This needs to be restated 👍

I never really thought about it until I read this, but you are probably correct on this being the longest continually-running GT board. When GT.com's old boards imploded a small group of the core membership created a new site, but GTP's been around for a good chunk longer than that. I believe GTbytheNumbers is still around... I'd be curious about the start-up dates of some of the European communities too. Going by post count this is my "main" board these days too.

Lately, within the last year the kids here at GTP (under 15 year olds) have decided that changing your text is cool, to be honest, I really don't think it is. Can we call it the Famine effect? ;)

(Only joking; Famine is arguably the most obvious example of coloured text, and maybe some people get the wrong idea that that's the best way to stand out, as opposed to the long history of aiding the board that Famine is also known for).

I am positive there are other members too young to have their own credit cards, that also have Premium. I'd assume a parental unit provides it, either paying on their behalf or accepting money from said member. PayPal does accept bank accounts, as well.

(Oh, and font snobs will hate your posts for the Comic Sans)

If I were you, I'd ditch the text formatting all together, but that's just me and a week of Fixedsys. And yes, I got this Premium by buying a Visa gift card. I lose about five dollars on the process, but I can use that for literally everything on the internet, even porn if you were so inclined to do so.

There should be a rule where anyone who asks to be a mod automatically gets disqualified from being a mod.

^Everybody has dreams; many wants to be a Moderator in the future. ;)

If that's applied, it will just prevent the dream from happening. Simple, huh? :)

I'm starting to love the colour Indigo...

As for the topic...well...is this a rhetorical question?
The answer is sure obvious to me...

I transferred money to another member here via netbanking and they then used their credit card to get my premium...not hard at all.

There are no specific requirements, I just choose people who I feel share my vision for the site. :)

As a new member here I am curious what is your vision for the site?

Well, this is a site about a video game, and, ironically, I hate most websites about video games. I want GTPlanet's community to be smart, mature, and as classy as the GT series itself.

classy as the GT series itself.

You stay classy GTP!

[/Ron Burgundy]

Sorry I could resist.

But it seems like your vision is working out pretty well, except for some of the n00bs that float in from time to time, GTP is probably the best video game based forum out there in terms of maturity level. Obviously with a member population so large though you have to contend with bone heads, but I think the bone head to good member ratio is pretty solid.

Well the n00bs just float in then out, never having a huge effect. But site is perfect, one of the most mature site I've been on that has a large public audience.

I do kind of see the goal for GTplanet.

I've been exploring a lot of sites based on video gaming and games ,like the ace combat forums sites, which are very childish(15 year old mods?),also call of duty forums(due the natures of the game these too tends to be childish),apart from that all mayor gaming reviewing and news sites become a console war stages,FM forums have become like a dictatorship, intelligent discussion in other sites that are not academic or intellectual have become an impossibility, except for this one.

Here is fanboism that's true, but there is also very good people trying to do what intellectual and logical discussion, and that is something that you just don't see in other sites anymore.

In the topic of becoming a mod,is something that I wont be,I'm already tagged in the "infractions black list" so there is no future for me in this area, besides a mod requires to be really impartial and very patient with children.

I like my current position in GT planet(I looking forward for a premium once I get some plus money and GT5 comes out)also I'll like to be adding ideas to make GT planet better, like some regulations of time attack challenge and a very likely contest for track creator just like everybody should be doing.

This is very good site and it will become bigger, and bigger so it will become one of the main sites of racing discussion over the internet(Global domination is always possible, you just have to believe).
