I like a good challenge but...

Consider that increased overall grip and understeer are not mutually exclusive.

But urgh I don't want to argue anymore coz you're all nice guys, so take or leave what I've said :]

If it works for you, then it works for you. I can't argue against that.

won by 3.xxx sec, took the lead in the turns after the last uphill section.

I thought your car could only have 65 bhp.

I'd hazard a guess you just got more used to the course. And so your lap times dropped because of that.

I mean seriously, how many times did the scooby kick it's tail out? :P It's one of the most stable cars around. Getting the power down in a 4WD does not require massive rear downforce. Don't even get me started on a FF.

As for drag, it's implementation in this game is so negligible it can basically be ignored.

Here is a quote from an admin on the specialist STi tuning/track day site IWSTI.com (i.e. real world STi tuners):

I'm not going to press my point anymore. If you don't feel the understeer, then fair enough, but it is there.
No I didn't get used to the course, I know it like the back of my hand. It kicked out a lot when you tune the car to NOT understeer. Basically it makes it so it is possible to tune out understeer while still maintaining a stable car on-power out of turns and while braking. Don't forget that even though GT5's physics are good, they are far from perfect and far from total reality. Everything that applies in real life, sadly does not apply in the best race simulators, let alone GT5 that has some rather strange physics at times.

I golded the Lotus and WRX events on the 1st try without any major suspention or tranny tweaks ( i hate the sound of racing transmission), but the Fiat 500 race is hard, i tried it 8-9 times, tuned the gearbox and suspension, but always seem to finish the race 2-3 sec behind the leader.

You just need to be smooth and patient!

I managed to do the Fiat and Lotus events in a couple of goes, but I just couldn't get anywhere in the Subaru one. That was until I realised I hadn't done any weight reductions, I then went on to win by nearly 5 seconds. I guess all the practice in the heavy Subaru paid off. By the way I added the wing to my Subaru and it did help with the lap times too.

Golded the Fiat one after using a tune i found on this forum. Tranny set to 150kph

The most important part is loosing as little speed as possibe in the corners. try keeping the racing line, and getting as close as possible to the rumble strips/walls.

Anyone who says anything about what they did in a race or how easy it was without listing all driving aids used is actually not saying anything at all. Just saying.....

I aced the Elise event on a mate's save after about an hour of messing around with setups, mostly gleaned from this site, then went off to do the same on my account. After about 5 hours trying I eventually decided my attempts to win without any driver aids was going to kill me, so I set TCS to 2 and bingo.

It seems like 1.10 brought with it something for everyone.

For those that like things easy, there's the time trial and the half price OCD.
For those that like to tune, and like a challenge which may result in temporary loss of sanity there's the Expert Seasonals.
For the experts, there's the Expert Seasonals done in stockers (we're not worthy...)
For the grinders, there's x3 on Cr. and XP for the previous seasonal events.
For the traders/dupers, there's a new source of gift tickets.
For the Pokemon/Zwinky generation, there's collectible helmets and suits.
For the bloggers, posters, trollers and thread botherers, there's shed loads to talk about.
For the haters, the moaners, anyone looking for another excuse to throw their playstation and/or GT5 out with the trash and move on there's everything you don't like about the above list.

I, like most others, can think of at least a dozen things I'd rather PD had worked on than any of the above, but to be fair, they ain't done bad.

The Fiat race is easier the original seasonal with it, that took me forever to win. So from that race I got the tune and feel for the car. Entering this new race I got 2nd on my first attempt and I'm only average. Fixed the gear ratio and won on attempt #4 after catching traffic in bad spots on my other tries. Ran a mid 2:03, but average laps were low 2:04s.

Something tells me the Elise race wouldn't be so easy ;)

Golded the Elise event this morning. :) Installed the aero kit and used a base tune from a GTP member and tweaked it a bit to suit myself. Practice definitely helped. With my setup I could set quick laps but I wasn't consistent. I'd run two or three laps then end up going too sideways and losing it. Settled down after a couple tries and won. 👍

Best result in the Subaru event so far is 2nd place. Man that thing has some understeer with the Sports Hard tires on it. I think I can gold it though.

why lie dude!!??

Fiat 500 Event - I found to be somewhat hard. Took me a few tries to do it with a fully tunned car.

Lotus Elise Event - Took me only a few tries. Tsukuba is my favorite race track (with the Kei Seasonal Eifel Track a close 2nd). So I know the track pretty well.

Subaru Impreza Event - Was really hard for me. Took me over 3 hours to complete. I was never very good at Laguna Seca. But after this event, I am MUCH better now and enjoy the course very much.

Yeah, these have been tough. I'm not a tuner, so I usually just rely on aggressive and overpowered cars... that's why I'm stuck on the Ferarri challenge and the A-Spec F1 race lol

Plus I suck at this game :(

I'm level 37 Aspec and these seasonals are finally the thing that has made me learn manual transmission. I couldn't get better than 3rd with the auto, so I decided I'd learn to shift. I've been practicing many other cars and races to get the hang of manual (and enjoying 5 speed transmissions). I'm almost smooth and natural enough now to try to gold the seasonals again. I know I've cut my lap times by 1-2 seconds or so in general compared to what I was doing with the automatic.

Without the challenge of these events I would not have cared about getting better. I do however wish that there was a small credit/experience reward system for completing these races...It feels cheap to restart after a mistake, and providing a small incentive to finish the race would be nice.

Can someone post the tunes for the Subaru and the Lotus ? Thank you.

i'm too lazy to post a full setup but max ballast and try to get 50/50 weight ballance, you can actually only get ~45/55 but always try to get 50/50.
I managed only second place so my setup isn't the best.

ME tip for the Subaru: Put in the large Turbo in stead of the midrange one. Midrange Turbo will giv u 2 much power when exiting a corner, the big one provides u a little later giving u time to steer in the right direction without losing speed. Did all the challenges in the 2nd attempt, dont want to show off, me name is captn_pommeroy if someone wants some "driving school" ;-)

Modest rant and burying it here in the thread: I got the Fiat gilded today. Previously, my best race was 2nd, about 18 seconds from the leader with best laps in the high 2.07 range. THEN - I turned all the driving aids off. Next race - 7 seconds behind and a few 2.04 laps. Then 1,7 seconds behind with a low 2.03. Now - it became a race! Third try - 0,73 seconds behind and on the fourth attempt (n:th overall) - victory by 0.9 seconds!

I thought driving aids were there to well... aid the driver? Apparently I've played the game wrong the whole time. Not anymore though! Next - the Lotus

This was how I beat the scooby challenge. Hopefully some other people will beat it with this.

Fiat challenge: pain in neck. Finally beat it. Started with a 2:07, had a 2:03.299 last lap. I must have come within 2 seconds 10 times. I have no words of wisdom. Maybe corner speeds.

First 3 corners full throttle, beware of redlining.

First tunnel: cut corner left shift down to 4th no brakes. 60 mph

Sharp right, brakes to 55, you'll skid dn to 52, hammer dn stay in 4th under the monkey up the hill hopefully at 62-63.

Shift to 5th as you clip the left end of the 2nd tunnel, keep close to floored over the yellow stripes, controlled skid into the edge, not the wall! 75 at the yellow line. Top speed over the hill, don't redline.

Hammer brakes later than u instinctively want to, dn to 66, hard left over yellow stripes, controlled skidding, hopefully top out at 65 up the hill.

55 both hairpins.

Stay far right, veer early over grey left corner at 84, stay on asphalt, brush the edging on the right, don't hit the bump on the left side past the bridge, finish line at 86.

All that and they give me a M&M NASCAR!!! GT Life just isn't fair :'(

I have beaten the X challenge (bronze with DS3) but the Elise challenge is just too hard for me.

Try not to limit the engine too much! In my opinion it gets worse, if you go under 70%! Set the LSD to 5/5/5 helped me as well, as you don't spin that much anymore. Not a lot further tuning needed, some suspension tweak for better steering.

You can do it! Give it lots of rear downforce to help with the oversteer. Keep practicing it. If you got the X challenge you easily have the skill, you just need to learn the elise. Be very gentle with the throttle, and save the acceleration until the car has really stabilized out of the corners.
