Hi all, I accidently lost my save. This is not my fault, I saved my progression as always and when I restart my game later in the day, the file was corrupted, so that means the saving procedure went wrong :( As a chance, I erased the back up on my USB key a few days before because I needed it...

I have been playing the game since the release date, I was almost lvl 40 in A-Spec and B-Spec, 19.000.000 Cr., almost 1000 cars, all competitions, license and all seasonnal events in gold since the first seasonnal event :) Well, that's life.

My question is : my friends can still see my progression in my online profil, they see me at lvl 38, all my cars, my 60 licenses in gold, etc. If I restart a new career, do you think that :
:tdown:1. All my information are going to be reset ? So my online profile will get back to 0 ?
:tup:2. My old information are going to come back because it's link to my PSN account and I will automatically have my trophees and A-B Spec lvl back ?

What should I expect ? Is there someone who already had to restart a career to tell me ?

Thanks a lot, and sorry for any english mistakes, I'm french...

When you restart you lose everything except your trophies which is the only thing linked to your PSN ID.
Your GT5 online profile will reset.

Woah too bad, if you had to restart career just raise enough money until you can buy and tune a Civic and then go grinding the seasonals as much as you can, forget about the career for now. Just earn credits and xp points over there, when you have about 2 milions and level 14 / 15 you can start buying good cars and considering to restart the career. But I suggest you to not follow the normal progression, go straight to professional and extreme you will earn better cars and money, once you are "safe" with a 40 decent cars garage and about 5 milions you can just do whatever you want. Don't forget to backup your save once a week on your Pc / external hard disk.

And another one. Hahaha 👍

You guys will learn it never, eh? Google for Backup, it's the solution for your problem. ;)

I've a backup on USB, PC & on my ext. backup HDD.

Ohh, and not to forget as we can use it currently for free, Sony's Online Backup!

I have a question.
Are you able to back up your file by creating another PS3 User?
When I back up my files to my USB memory I see that you can also copy your file to the other user(s) on the PS3 system.

Sure you can use it as backup. But it's not "save" because it's on the same HDD.

And you can't play with your savegame on a other account. No gamesave sharing with GT5. ;)

Wait so your data is only on a USB? Because I have mine on my PS3 Hard drive, and my USB.

Yeah, my first License :D All in Gold of course, it took me 25 minutes ^^

Euh... This time my B-Spec level will stay at 0 ^^ I will only play in A-Spec mode. I want to earn enough money to buy a Clio V6, so I can do the french drift and french time attack :) More than 2.000.000 Cr. Then I buy an Impreza , 500 and Elise for the Seasonnal Expert Challenges. After that I'm rich, and back in the game.

I don't care about my stats this time, I only want money and cool rides to play online with my friends :).

[EDIT] After 1 Civic seasonnal race : Level 4 -> Level 13 :D That's faster than I thought !

Same thing happened to me. But, it's not the end of the world. I kept my trophies and lost my cars, licenses, levels, etc.

I think it's kind of fun doing it again.

I guess if I was serious, or getting paid to play, I'd worry about backups.

You can have an unlimited number of save on the same USB. Just go to the computer and put the current save on the USB into a folder anywhere on the USB. When you next put the USB into the PS3, it won't be able to find any PS3 data, and you can save another GT5/PS3 file.

The downside is that you need to plug the USB into a computer to recover the "burried" save, but at least you would be able to hang on to a save if you needed to put a different save in the same USB.

The fact is that I thought it was a loss of time, I play GT5 since the first day, I never had any problem, I only did 1 back up/week, to me it was enough. It is not normal to start to put back up everywhere and having 10 back up on his USB key because the game is not safe and can corrupt your data at any time...

It never happened to me with my PS1, never with my PS2, and now, after 15 years of experience Sony is still not able to guarantee a 100% safe saving data procedure. Am I the only one finding that crazy !?

I feel so sorry it got corrupted. If that ever happened to me I would just give up on life and go become a monk or something.

You shouldn't turn off your PS3 while there is a popup with the letters "Saving ...". :sly:

I am a hardcore trader, i did thousands of backups & recovers, maybe 10.000+ (?) ingame save processes during my complete GT5 time. And guess what? I had NEVER a corrupt savegame.

I only say, the problem sits in 99% of the time infront of the PS3.
:)

You can trust me :) I didn't turn my PS3 off during the save ;) I always save my game manually from the home page, because I do not trust in the auto-save method. I know how a save work, I would never do that mistake :)

Why would I turn my PS3 off during the save NOW if I never did it in thousands save ? Because I'm crazy and I like to start a game when I almost have completed it ? I don't think so... ;)

the same thing happened to me, and i did back things up. my problem was after i traded, i reloaded my save and it was corrupt...so my good save was overwritten.

im with you... one backup should be enough. now i do 2 as well.

I don't say it's every time the fault of the person. A faulty USB stick or HDD (avoid cheap noname products) could be sometimes the problem. Maybe it was in your both situations the problem.

But I can say i had never a problem with my backup. Maybe because i know how to handle my electronic products + I use only quality products. :sly:

Trophies and replays stay, everything else goes.
You can also back up saves on other accounts on your PS3, as long as they don't have a GT5 save, for future reference.

There are programs out that that can restore deleted information from a HDD/pen drive.

Nothing is deleted on a HDD/pen drive. The portion of the HDD/pen drive that your save was on is just maked deleted. Your HDD/pen drive doesnt go to the effort of changing the bits back to 0 individually, it just marks groups of bits as deleted. The only way it is really gone for ever is if the HDD/pen drive writes something over that section.

So you might be able to recover it from the pen drive with a program, if you want to go to that kind of effort to get it back

As it sounds like your save is corrupted there is no point in trying to recover it from that but you might be in luck with the pen drive

The consumer shouldnt get expected to back up things like game saves. Espically as a console doesnt use its hard drive 1/10 of what your computer will and a HDD in a computer will last years. You cant do it on the 360 and Ive never had a problem with saves corrupting in 4-5 years with it and I havent heard it happen.
