What do you guys think about 2002 and newer Corvette Z06's? I'm interested in hearing anything you have to say about them - whether it be good, or bad. Anyone have specs on them? Most importantly: weight, and gearing(ratios). Does anyone know how strong the LS6 is? Can the bottom end handle 600 or so rwhp reliably?

The reason I ask is because this is the car I'll be buying soon - preferably Millenium Yellow, but Speedway White, or Torch Red will suffice. I'm very excited about it. It's a huge change compared to the '03 Cobra I have from what I can remember. I haven't driven one in over 2 years. The Z06 is slower in a straight line, but every other aspect of it will be better. So far I've heard nothing but good things from their owners, except for the fact that they have an oil burning issue(1 quart about every 1,500 miles) due to improperly seated seals, and their steering columns lock up occasionally seemingly without reason.:odd: No worries, though, as a $60 steering column delete kit will fix that problem.

I've done some reading at places like Z06Vette.com, but like a lot of model-specific sites, they're pretty biased. I'd like to know what everyone here thinks about them. Also, if anyone has pictures of them lowered and/or with aftermarket wheels please post pictures! Thanks guys. -Josh

For an all around 2 seater sports car, performance numbers and price - there is no better deal....except maybe an elise, but the corvette is a bit more easier to live with.

I've never driven one, but on paper they're great - go for it. 👍

Seriously? Damn, I figured you would have driven one at one point. I mean, I thought you've driven pretty much everything with 4 wheels!

Back in January when I was looking for a new car I considered the '03 Cobra, 2001+ Z06, and a used GTS Viper. Now that I've owned a 2003 Cobra, I'm left with the Z06 and Viper to choose between. Viper's are undoubtedly quick in stock form, but I refuse to pay $50,000+ for a used 5 year old car. Plus they look like clown shoes, and everything. So that rules them out, and leaves the Z06.

For anyone who's wondering, yes, I still like Supra's, but have once again ruled them out because I can't picture myself spending $30,000 on a 6-10 year old car with 40,000+ miles on it - that's just retarted. Plus, after owning the Cobra with 500ft/lb.tq. at 2,500rpm I can't go to a laggy single turbo I6 that makes full power at 4,500rpms or higher.

With the Z06 I'm going to focus more on handling, and appearance/stance than speed. My only plans are to lower it, slap on some 18"(most likely 19") CCW wheels, do some suspension work, simple catback exhaust, and call it a day. If I get bored with that... on goes a 100+ shot for 500+rwhp, and 550+rwtq.

Why didn't I do this earlier instead of buying the Mustang?

Black, Josh, black.

You probably know that car already, it belongs (or belonged) to SW... :p

The C5's got a ****ty interior, but I can't think of anything else I don't like. Think of it this way; It's as fast as a 360 Modena, except it's 3 times cheaper, and it looks better.

Oh, yeah, wheels...
SSR Professor SP1, 19's of course.

Or basically anything HRE, Kinetic of Fikse offers...

Should you ever find 18k$ somewhere and you don't know what to do with it:

Black, Josh, black.
Me and my co-worker/friend Jason were discussing possible color choices for it last Wednsday, and we talked about black. I just don't want a black car. I'm a lazy bastard, and hate washing my cars. Black shows scratches, dirt, and swirl marks waaay too easily. But, me and Jason agreed, black is quite possibly the best damn color for a car when it's freshly washed, and waxed. They look like mirrors. Nothing looks sweeter than a clean, black car.

Yep. Believe it or not, but earlier today I was on my computer upstairs in my room, and was looking through all of my old pictures, and videos, and saw that Z06(Z07, whatever), his oh-so-sexy white Z06, his red Viper, white M5, silver M5, 550 Maranello, Supras, Firebirds, and all of his many other cars. He's got such great taste in cars.👍 His white Z06 is absolutely beautiful.

The C5's got a ****ty interior, but I can't think of anything else I don't like.
I'm coming from a 2003 Cobra, and I've owned Camaro's, and Trans Am's, I know all about some ****ty interiors.

I'm not familiar with Kinetic or Fikse wheel prices, but HRE's are rigoddamndiculously expensive. I'm currently very interested in the CCW 505A's. 19", split 5 spoke, deep dish, etc. Perfect IMO.

I was watching a video of NoMercy's white MTI 427 Z07 earlier.:( On nitrous, with SW driving, it ran a 9.XX at like 153mph. Too bad the 427 stroker is so god damn expensive, or I, without a doubt, would get it. Even their heads/cam packages are pretty high at just under $9,000. Anyone know how much a Cartek heads/cam package runs for Z06's?

You know you want one. ;)

Damn you, dude. Get out of my thread with that uglyness!

I don't like Supra's. Never have. I'm not some kind of nut who can name the owner of pretty much every damn Supra with its picture posted on the net. Especially not that one. Okay, so I can, and I do know who's that is, but I don't like them!:scared::lol:

No Supra!

I've driven plenty of base model C5s and of course the Grand Sport and a few other C4s but never a Z06. Are you going to buy new or used?

Those CCWs on the blue one, that's just about perfect. BBS LMs would be awesome looking too, but 19s are 1000$ each, at least. That's just crazy, much like Lingenfelter asking 30k for their twin turbo package...

Nothing looks sweeter than a clean, black car.

But nothing looks worse than a dirty one.

Are you going to buy new or used?

Definitely used. I think it's absurd to buy a brand new car. I never have, and never will. Why spend $52,000-$55,000 on a new Z06, when I can find one that some old ass man drove for 5,000-10,000 miles, and spend $32,000-$36,000?
My parents always buy new, but not me. I'll let some other dumbass take the huge initial price loss.

Besides, can you think of any Chevy dealership that would take me seriously if I walked in, and said I was interested in their $50,000+ Z06? They'd probably be like, "We have some real nice Cavaliers over here..." Hell, the people in the parts/service department at Palmetto Ford didn't even believe I owned a $35,000 2003 Cobra. I asked them if they carried idler pulleys for it, the kids chuckled sarcasticly, and said, "Well, if you had the car here we could take a look at it, and see what you're talking about." I said, "It's sitting out front. Go ahead." That shut their little ***** asses up rather quickly.

I don't believe the depreciation's already so big. Wouldn't it be wise to wait another six months so the C6 comes out making the Z06 "outdated"? Then depreciation will set in even more; it'll be a steal.

Actually, don't wait. '96 Grand Sports have begun to appreciate. Buy now!

Is that the Electron Blue, or whatever it's called? I've never liked it, but must admit it looks damn good with those wheels in that picture!👍

The HRE's that I would get(545R's), if I were to buy any, are around $1,300-$1,600 a piece for the sizes I'd get. Crazy, but worth it. I can't think of a better brand of wheels than HRE.

Lingenfelter's prices are outrageous. Their 427TT package is like $75,000. The previous owner of my '03 Cobra had a LPE TT C5. Not sure which one, but I know he had like $90,000 in it including the cost of the car, and HRE's. Made 650rwhp on medium boost/pump gas. Scariest thing I've ever been in.

But nothing looks worse than a dirty one.

Exactly the reason I try to stay away from black.:D The '97 WS6 I had was black, and it constantly looked like ass because I was too lazy to wash it. I'm just cool like that.

Car prices suck right now, it seems. My $35,000, when new, 2003 Cobra is worth roughly $26,000 now. Check eBay, and the majority of Z06's are around $32,000-$38,000. There's a white 2001 with like 26-28k miles for like $29,000. It's been on there forever, though. That **** was for sale back in December, and January when I was looking for a car.:odd:

Actually, waiting 6 months wouldn't be such a bad idea. That would give me time to save up more money for stuff for it. I just don't know if I can sit here another 6 months thinking about them, without losing my sanity.

An exhaust?! From what I heard, stock exhaust Z06s already sound beautiful and very, very scary.

Sure, but with a catback, and maybe some longubes, wouldn't it sound even scarier?;)

True, you'd have a very scary car then. Also, what the crap are longubes?

I worked at a Chevy Dealership for a short while and there was a C5 with an exhaust system, and then a technician reved up a Z06 and both sounded beautiful.

On a similar note, I've been thinking more and more about a turboback exhaust system for my WRX. I want it to be quite, but I also want to get some more power and hear the flat four a little better.

Longtube headers.

Go for a turboback exhaust. Exhaust should be the first mod anyone does to their car.👍 Especially a turbo car.

Aswell as a low restriction cold air intake.

If I were you, I'd go with the Z06, a Viper is great, but it would cost too much to run.

Anything producing that sort of power will be thirsty, including the Z06.

I'm not sure if he was talking about gas costs, or just overall costs to own, and maintain a car such as the Viper, but...

The Viper would definitely be an expensive as hell car to drive/own. Insurance, without a doubt, would be insane, the 8.0l V10 would definitely love gulping down the premium, etc. I'm not too concerned about gas costs, though, as this will be a weekend only car to be used for fun on the weekends. My 460+rwhp '03 Cobra gets terrible gas mileage. I put over $90 in it in like 4, or 6, days once. The Z06 actually gets great gas mileage - something around 30mpg - assuming someone without a heavy foot is driving it.

Yes, but what under 30y/o in a Z06 does that :D

My skyline when cruising around is fairly good on fuel, but when I open her up she guzzles.

True that.:p If it does get around 30mpg with me driving normal(trust me, I can drive with a light foot in a 400+hp car. I just don't do it often.) I might have to use it as my daily driver, and get rid of the Lexus. Spare up some money for a house, or waverunner, or something.

What year is the Skyline? I know you've talked about it before, I just don't remember stuff for anything. Got anything done to it?

its a 1995 R33, Info and pics of my Skyline is in the link in my sig. Its fairly stock but it still goes good (nothing like your cobra did). It ran a 13.72 @ 102mph down the drags (after many 14+'s from wheel spin, after the 13.72 it started raining) I think I can better than that expecially when I up the boost. I will get an large front mount intercooler for it in a couple months (after I return from my trip to Japn and the US). I may even buy a turbo for it if I can find one cheap in the US or Japan.

You might want to look at rksport.com. They have a lot of stuff for corvettes and I'm pretty sure there are some pics of vettes with aftermarket wheels.

Get a blue Z06, Josh. I saw one with a catback system, 19" chrome rims, my god, what I wouldn't do to own one of those. 👍

They're worthless on WRXs. People have done dyno runs and they show no HP gains (and some lower the torque) and I think they make the ECU/MAF or whatever go nuts and you get weird A/F ratios or something.

As for the exhaust, I'll be getting one, probably in a packaged set up. Cobb and Prodrive both offer very good packages that have me torn. Cobb's is a cheaper and faster, but Prodrive's exhaust is exactly what I want and for some reason seems safer to me.

Josh, you are 19. You are bored with the Cobra, so you now want a Z06? I'm 17 and I'm looking to buy a Tercel...

Just for the info, there is also the 2001 Z06, and that version makes 385 hp (as opposed to 405)...

I recon I'd wait for the C6 Z07. I heard it'll be packin' 500 ponies :trouble:
