Wrong. Newb has been around since before pwned, with Noob as a branch.
Go back and read how I typed it. Somewhere in time, someone thought it would be wise to add a "k" onto newb.
Scrub has also been around for a LONG time, although it's always been used in fighting games as opposed to FPSs. In arcades especially, newbies or people that sucked were scrubs before they were anything else.
Scrub sounds retarded, and the people who say it sound the same. "You're a scrub". What? I'm a pair of clothing worn by medical staff?

I never knew people actually said it, it seems ridiculous to me that people would use a word in real life that is a mere typo. But I used to think the same about people using Internet slang in real conversations, only to find myself occasionally saying "wtf?". So I'm sure I'll come around eventually and start using it myself :P

Pawned. Is better typed than said, usually at school when a fat kid falls over I shout OWNED. Me and mike had an extensive argument with another freind about the pronounciation of PWNED , he thought it was PONED and we thought he was an idiot

Yes we did. Pawned. I'd never heard/said Powned before my mate said it.

How the hell do you say that? They're all one-syllable words anyway, what's the point?

I say lol (lawl) but only when I'm with people that see the humor in doing that. It doesn't 'slip out,' or anything.

I do that with BRB all the time. I'll say "I gotta BRB real quick" whenever I have to go down the hall for something or whatever.

I say each letter separately, but like I said it's only occasionally amongst friends. And there isn't really a point to it when I use it but I know some people tend to do it when they think it would be inappropriate to swear or just to save time.

I say "pee-own" but I use "Pone" on occasions like "Oh that's pre-pwned, don't buy it" or "My mobile phone is so bad ass, it's more of a mobile pwn"

I say Pwn like "own" drop the p, if you guys watch Pure Pwnage, they say "pure ownage" but spell it "Pure Pwnage".

Also if you search around youtube I think Jeremy and Dave do an interview and explain how it is just like gamer speak and when you are playing games you don't have the time to type and the p and o are right beside each other on the keyboard, thus you get pwn, pronounced "own".

So thats the reason I say "own" and not "pone"

you are supposed to pronounce it "own" unless you are dutch or from that region. then u pronounce it "poon"

its no surprise how many noobs pronounce it incorrectly... there's way more noobs than decent gamers.

I find it fantastic that only 6 of us say it right. The word "pwn" is nothing more than a misspelling of "own". Take a look at the keyboard and you'll see that the "p" is right next to the "o". The person that originally wrote it said "own" but spelled "pwn". It's pronounced "own".

Sixty-eight of you are wrong.

Not a chance.

It's a democracy; what the majority says, goes.

How do you say a word wihtout vowels?

"...and sometimes Y."

You pronounce RHYTHM: "...and sometimes Y"?

That's very bizarre.

The rest of the English speaking world, which doesn't technically consider Y a vowel, although it is recognised as such in many languages, and is a pretty good substitute in many cases, as RI-(as in River)-TH-(as in the :dopey:)-UM-(as in Um, I'm not quite sure how to respond to this???!!!!) :p

The Czechs seem to manage okay.
So do the Welsh. Once you've passed the sign for "Glyndyfrdwy" a few times you learn to accept that the English language perspective is flawed! (It's pronounced "Glin-DUVR-dooy" apparently!)

I pronounce it like "own". The "p" instead of the "o" is just more of this e1337 malarkey.

Although, you can literally pawn something at the pawn shop.

Jaffa Cakes are cakes, not cookies (or biscuits). McVitie's went to great lengths to ensure they stayed in the not-taxed cake band rather than the taxed biscuit/cookie band.
