I am kind of tired of buying games only to find they aren't that interesting. Fifty and Sixty bucks is an awful lot of money to drop on a total bomb, and I'm tired of buying bombs:indiff: Out of all the PS3 games I've bought since I bought mine I have two I consistantly play...Warhawk, and GRID. I haven't missed a night with GRID since I bought it. Every now and then I'll pull out Motor Storm, but the other games are gathering dust until I can sell them somehow.

After downloading the demo to Haze I've decided on that game, but I wanted to what people thin of Army of Two. If its a good game I could play it with my kids. I'm alos looking at:

Time Shift
Turning Point The Fall of Liberty
Viking
Lair
Resistance The Fall of Man
Armored Core

Up till now I've only really played racing games, but the PS3 does put a whole new spin on things.

So much of what makes a great game is based on the personal preference of the player themselves, so while one person may think game "A" is an amazing game, and game "B" is a lousy game, someone else may feel the exact opposite way... and they would both be right.

That said, there are several threads and posts with a lot of info that may be helpful to you in finding games that will appeal to you:

In addition, there have been several lengthy discussions throughout the last year on what games people like in the Official PS3 Discussion thread.

I know Kent initiated one last year starting on post #7547 and he followed that up by initiating a discussion about PS3 online games that people recommend starting on post #7578, and a month after that he asked about driving games, and here was my response:

Kent, besides GT:HD, to really get a good fix on quality driving games you really should look into Formula One: Championship Edition. When you see how good it's optional crash & mechanical damage and race penalties are, you'll better understand why so many GT fans wish we had something like that in GT5.

If you like WRC and other Rally driving games, I would also highly recommend Colin McRae's DiRT.

And for pure fun and great graphics, you'll likely enjoy logging some hours on MotorStorm.

Those are currently me Top 3 Driving Games for the PS3, as they also are very different from each other as well. 👍

Also, they are very different than what GT5 will offer, so GT5 wont necessarily diminish their value when it comes out. 👍

Beerzgood also brought this topic up back on post #7865.

Just bought a PS3 today! :D
Congratulations, I seriously doubt you'll ever regret it, it is quite an impress piece of equipment that besides playing some really great games does a remarkable job doing many other things as well, like playing Blu-ray movies, upscaling DVDs, playing SACDs, and as a general media server. 👍

Crappy thing is GT4 doesn't work there, says it's non-compatible...
Is there a way for it to work?
GT4 works fine for me, can you give us more details?

[EDIT]
Get your PS3 online asap.
You need to update the frimware, the updates regularly fix compatibility issues.
GT4 was initially non compatible, but this has been fixed in the downloads.
Yes, system updates are a must! If you haven't already, go to the "Settings" menu in the XMB, and go to the top and select "System Update" and follow the directions. (or click on these links that take you to the online manual for information and instructions regarding these features) 👍
[/EDIT]

Also, are there any really good games for PS3 already?
I don't have any games for it yet and wanted to know your opinions before I decide which to get.
The only ones I know I'm buying are GT5 Prologue and the new PES.
There are over 40 Blu-ray games out on the PS3, and over 15 downloadable games from the PS Stores, many of which are quite popular, but games are so subjective that one person's passion is another person's poison, and neither would be wrong.

However, Kent has brought up this very same subject a few times already, so you might get the most feedback by simply going back a couple weeks into this thread and see what people said.

I realize this is a massive thread that makes it difficult to find specific older posts, even when its just been a couple weeks... hopefully that might change if and when the "showing ONLY posts in a thread by a specific user" feature is added to GTP in the upcoming software update.

In the meantime, to make it easier on you here are some of the links to Kent's questions regarding what games people recommend and from there you can follow the discussion:
If you are curious, here are a couple of my responses to these questions about games:
In addition, you'll find a lot of answers to your questions about games in specific threads in the PS3 Board. Here are a couple threads you might want to check out:
I hope you find some of this helpful and it guides you in the right direction. 👍

Looking back I see ND4SPD actually initiated this same topic a week earlier, and some of the responses might help you in your decision making as well:
Here was my response in case your curious:
Also Kent posted a question about the games and other content available for download at the PS Stores in addition to his other questions about PS3 games, so this may also be of some use to you:
And again, here was my response to that inquiry as well:

Basically speaking, there is a great deal of useful info in this thread... it just might take a little (OK, maybe a lot of) digging through to find it all! :)

No offense or anything, but Haze and all the games you've listed are mediocre at best. The only game on that list worth getting would be Resistance, as the sequel is just around the corner and lookin' good. Heavenly Sword, Metal Gear Solid 4, Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, Oblivion, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Grand Theft Auto 4, and Call of Duty 4 would all be excellent choices. If you want me to narrow it down to the games that'd give you the most bang for your buck, I'd suggest MGS4, Oblivion, GTA4, or COD4. All 4 of those are either have exansive and open-ended gameplay, awesome online multiplayer, or gameplay that's just so damn fun that you'll play it again and again and again.

Unfortunately, the only game I can recommend is MGS4.

Out of your list... Don't bother with Time Shift or Turning Point The Fall of Liberty, just don't trust me. lol Still don't get the hype and what was unique about Resistance The Fall of Man, but people seem to keep buying it anyway. Armored Core was just meh... I guess part of it is the awkward controls though.

The Haze demo seemed real lackluster. Army of Two is garbage because it came from EA.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma looks really good, but it's Stupid hard even on easy. I couldn't take it. Not to mention it's a button Mashing game. I think Heavenly Sword is too.

I have Rathcet and Clank Size Matters on the PSP and I'm still having a blast with it. I play the PSP during daylight hours so the rest of the family can have the TV, then turn on the PS3 at around 11:00PM and play until aout 6:00AM I'm disabled so time is somehting I have more of than I truly wish I had. I have Been wanting to get Heavenly Sword since I got the PS3 but I'm waiting until it goes down to about1/2 its original price. A fellow gamer her told me he had orrowe it from a freind and got through it in one weekend. That was playing straight through and not getting involved in too much extra stuff ut I figured I'd go ahead and wait a bit just in case. I also didn't list Devil MAyCry which loks like a good game. I have Oblivion, and even ought the guideutafter spending 6 hours and playing and still being in the dungeon I got a bit discouraged with how slow the game play went and the control layout is just too weird for me. Actually my wife ought it assumong she might like it and has yet to play even one game on the PS3..period. The occasional DVD is as far as she gets with it.:indiff: Thats okay I got her a Wii last Wednesday, and she loves that so hey its what she's wanted for aout a year now  I have GTA3( it actualy came with my PS3) and don't really like it so I've not even entertained the thought of GTA4

Well, I'd be the one that suggested waiting for Heavenly Sword to become used. And it wasn't as if I avoided side quests I just didn't shoot for the highest rating on all the levels so I could unlock the bonus videos, which were all released on the PSN for free.

As for other games:

Resistance is fun, and should be worth the price of a used copy. Although, I will admit that I never finished it after getting Warhawk. I enjoyed the story but as FPS games go it was nothing exceptionally new. After watching the Game Trailers TV thing Resistance 2 looks incredible though.

If you like Grid I suggest Dirt. Same people, just off-road.

Now, your general complaint is buying games and realizing that they just aren't all that great. I agree.

The question is: How often do you do this? Would it be saving you money in the long run to do an online rental service like Gamefly? I do that and I get to test run all my games first. Then if I like it they have the "Keep It" option where you pay the used price and they send you the case and manual (free shipping). Warhawk and GT5P are the only games I haven't bought this way in three years (Well, I guess the MGS: Essentials Collection too).

Plus, as it is an online rental service and I can rent as many games as possible with no extra charge I took chances on some games I didn't expect to like, but went for anyway.

Also, something else I suggest you try is Rock Band. I never got into the music games until now. I kept laughing at the Guitar Hero games and stuff until a couple of friends got Rock Band and they would pull it out every time we got together. Begrudgingly I took drums. About midway through my first song it hit me, I was having fun. Not only that but my left hand has permanently limited range of motion, but I was using it.

But find someone you know that owns it first, because it is a very expensive game to decide you don't like after purchasing.

Its been awhile Foolkiller, Block Buster next door has a copy of Heavenly Sword for $40, but I wantto hold off until they have it for $30. At first I thought about renting first to test run them but Block Buster wants 7.99 per game. Although that might sound like chump change for most people when you live on a limited income. I am disabled, unable to work and have been waiting for SSD to be aproved for a few years, and my wife works at WalMart around 32 hours a week. We have two kids so Tax season is pretty generous which is how we got the PS3, PSP, and the two Nintendo DSlites for the kiddies, and the stimulus check got us the Wii. The PS3 was my wife's Anniversary/Valentines present to me, and I got the Wii for her for Mothersday...belated ofcourse.

I mean we can keep caught up and do a few things every month but $7.99 to the price of a $60 game can add up. Which is why I take every ones opinion into account while considering games. GRID has become my favorite game in a very short time. I've read a few negative opinions aout it being to arcadey, but its the first game I have played that really nails the feel of hammering high horse power steel cages around a track. All thats missing is the G forces. I have Dirt(for 2 months now) and with the limited 180degree steering you get with the DFP on that game it gets too touchy in the steering. I'll hold off until I can get the Madcatx PS3 wheel to decide if I like it or not. I mean, 270 degrees is a lot more than 180 in racing game. To be honest I was not too impressed withthe physics of GT5P. Hopefully they will fix things before releasing the whole game. I'm sorry guys but powerful v8 driven cars like the Mustang do not bog down or refuse to accelereate when the wheel is turned past 10 degrees. To give the game the benefit of the doubt, I do have the Japanese version, so if that is a setting that can be changed I don't know how because I can't read Japanese The graphics are awesome, and it looks like they've added fallacy to the AI so it is now imperfect, like the rest of us. So you don't feel like a mortal racing against the Gods. Which is another reason GRID has become a favorite. I love watching an AI spin out in front of me causing a pile up I have to avoid. When I intimaidate an AI by bumper kissing and nudging on the track my car stays in control instead of flying off the track. I finally got all pro liscences last night for all three divisions, and am going to fire my first teammate...he's not aggressive enough.

Mainly I want to know about the playability of the games I listed, how believeable, are the controls a bit complex or pretty simple, and whether or not other gamers would reccomend buying new or used. Also why they would reccomend the used or new price. BTW Foolkiller, I have my headset now, if you still play Warhawk let me know. So far I've only used it in DeathMatch to get the edge over the guys who want to team up and take out others, by listening in on tyheir communication.:sly: I've yet to use it in a coordintated effort with a group of other players in Capture the Flag.

Regarding your GT5:P compalint, the cars don't get bogged down when you steer if you turn the driving aids off. ASM in particular cuts your power when cornering, it's a driving aid that helps prevent the car from rotating while turning in other words, trys to prevent you from spinning out. It does this by cutting the power when the car starts to slide, even slightly. Also you need to make sure you have professional physics selected and not arcade physics too. Physics wise, GT5:P is imo arguably the best console racer out there, it fails in other areas but the physics impressed me.

I'll put it in tonight and go through and experiment wit hthe settings. Like I say I have a Japanese copy so I can't read anything on it. At first I was extremely put of by it, but then I started to think that it may be a setting in the game that could be changed and with my not being able to read the text was unaware of how to reset it. My second car was the Mustang and I really wanted it to fly like a little car loaded with a nice V8 should. By far Enthusia still has the actual physics down over anything I've played. I just need to play it more to get up to a level to where I am able to drive actual Race Cars. Most of the physics in GT5Pwere pretty good except for that bogging. Code Masters has done an awesome job with GRID. Finally a game that allows you to throw a car into a controlled four wheel drift before an intersection and pull out of it when you are lined up with the new road.More realistic acceleration.. not too fast but not too slow. The ease at which you can spin out when cornering makes you pay attetention to how you approach corners especially the ones tighter than 90 degrees. At first I was dissapointed with not being able to set up the particulars of the car but now I'm glad that I am able to spend moretime just racing. Before with TOCA or GT3,4,5 spend a lot oftime fine tuning the cars ..maybe more time than I should have.

I was just told about a game trading site called goomex. Anyone else have any experience with them, and if so was it positive or negative.

It's been a bit since I played Warhawk. I have been game overloaded since GT5P, Super Smash Bros Brawl, various PSN games, MGS: Essentials Collection, and now Rock Band and Uncharted. And I still want Lego Star Wars and MGS4.

And coming up I want Civilization Revolution and am looking at Overlord: Raising Hell.

I might need to take a step back and return to Warhawk just for a bit.

But that might even be harder as last night my wife gave Rock Band a try and decided she liked it.

I'll put it in tonight and go through and experiment wit hthe settings. Like I say I have a Japanese copy so I can't read anything on it.
Somewhere there is a Japanese settings screen translation in a thread.

Someone else with the JP copy may be able to direct you to the correct place.

Of your list I'd say Resistance is a good buy. Some have said it doesn't add anything new to the genre but I found it to be fun and very playable. It isn't as amazing as MGS4 but I do keep playing it.

You should probably take a look at Uncharted too. If you're a big kid like me you'll love "being" Indiana Jones :-)

I'm going back to your original list of games you asked about:

I do believe that some of these have demos in the Playstation Store. I will highlight the ones in red that I know I played at one time.

Time Shift
Turning Point The Fall of Liberty
Viking
Lair - This may have been on the EU store.
Resistance The Fall of Man - this one actually convinced me to get the game.
Armored Core - I played an Armored Core demo, but not sure if it was for the newest Armored Core.
