I need help getting gold on the IA mission races. Mainly the first one with the Supra. I've got all the aides turned off except for Active Steering. It's set to strong. These are tough.

I have attempted everything I can think of to beat that one. I know you could beat it, as I had it beat on my old 80 gig fatty. Either my driving degraded over the last year or something changed. Good luck if you can figure it out, you have the magic touch. I can't even get close to my times from January of last year. I'm about 3 tenths or so slower than before.

Wheel & pedals? Controller?

I did this a year ago and I don't remember any special difficulty or specifics. But I know ABS1 was my only assist, and I'm certain that I overtook cars through the esses.

At Suzuka I never brake through the esses, just light throttle modulation entering the turns, and usually full throttle before the apexes. As a bluesman, just keep a shuffle rhythm in your gut and follow it through the 12th bar of the mission.

Meanwhile, you'll cut heads and send your competition back to the woodshed. (You ARE a bluesman, right?)

This is literally the only trophy/mission I can't gold in the whole game. No matter what I do. I overtake the GT-R in Degner 2 and I have one or two car lengths in front of him before the finish line - still can't get the gold. It's baffling me.

I'm not bragging or anything, but I golded everything else in the game fairly easily and it usually doesn't take me more than a few tries to gold any seasonal they throw at us. But this...

I use DS3 (stick) and all aides off, except ABS to 1. Manual gearbox. I do pinch the brakes 2-3 times through the esses, but that's really pinching. I do most of my breaking through the gearbox. I'm pretty lost on this one.

DS3. Yeah, i like to play a little. :) i thought i hax improved. By golding all those holiday overtakes and all the Senna events. This one is strange. I've overtaken the last car too and I've had a slower time than when i didn't overtake the last car. I wonder if the clock is faulty. Lol! Youe right about the esses. A near perfect driving line is essential.

Try turning off the Active Steering

Its not needed for this Mission and its probably slowing you down (though I haven't tried the Mission with ASM so this is just speculation:D).

Where are you passing the first AI? Are you passing it before the first left-hand ess?

The Gold time of 47.200 seems reasonable, but fast.

I just re-tried this Mission and ran a 46.678, so there is a reasonable margin. I passed the second AI under (moderate) braking for the first part of the Degner corner so I had no AI interference going thru the tight Degner right-hander.

Good luck!

The first AI right at the first left of the esses. The last AI on the last right turn before the finnish area. I just wonder if my timer is synchronized right. Lol! But seriously I've had slower times when i passed him than when i didn't. Strange.

Happened to me as well. I think that's somewhat normal, as in principle the AI pace isn't scripted - only their starting place on the track is. So theoretically, it could be that their pace differs slightly from one run to another. That being said, I don't think you can get a gold time if you're not in front.

When I ran it last year, I got 47.015.

I just re-ran it on my second account. First run: 47.345; second run: 46.796.

For me, the key is to push hard through the first turn. I pass the first car while exiting the second half of the first turn, and the second car on the straight between Dunlop and Degner.

I was probably on pace to beat 46.500, but I messed up the last turn.

I may be holding back on that first turn. I need to pass the NSX before i get to the esses i think. So that I'm set up for a good run through there. If I'm passing and most times bumping the first car on enrty or halfway through that first left, I'm probably doomed. That's probably slowing me down to where i just can't make the time.

I treat the first turn as two corners. I lightly brake at the entrance and then accelerate to the second portion. Then I brake enough to rotate, and I'm back on the gas before the second apex.

I usually pass the first car before the end of inside curbs, but always before the end of the outside curbs.

Then, the second car is in close striking range. I think he could be passed in Dunlop without much trouble, but today I didn't get him until the straight after.

Looking at my times from last year, this must have been the hardest mission--it's the only one I didn't beat by more than .600. How are you doing on the others?

I've only got silvers in the others but I've only been trying this one for the past few days. I came back to all the events i haven't golded yet. Senna seems easy now. Lol!

In reading these posts I gave this another go.
The first AI you need to pass going into first left, you can take a bit of curb through there, then just play with the throttle through the esses and you should be able to pass going into Degner 1, again you can take a bit of liberty with the corner, brake early for Degner 2 and power early to finish.
I did a 46.9 doing this, though not first time with only ABS 1.
Keep trying you'll get it. Hope this helps, got 100% last night and sure feels good, if I can do it so can you.

.............Oh hell I remember this one - a real toughie, for one the car (Supra GT500) feels too stiff under acceleration for me, and feels slow out of the apex. I golded by....cheating a little, especially in the esses, I cut the fair amount of grass - this seems to rotate the car without the need of modulation of stop/go pedals. I did get 47 sec dead so it's not impossible, after all. I had no aids except ABS on 1 (I think) but I did this so long ago not sure if PDI "patched" the grass exploit I used....

I finally did it: 47 flat. I used to do 47:2s and 47:3s up to now. Worse part is that I don't know how or why I was faster. I passed the AI at the exact same places with (maybe) a slightly better entry into the Dunlop curve. That didn't feel faster though and I still passed the leading GT-R only in Degner 2.

I was actually so surprised that I tried again immediately afterwards. Did a 47:1. Another go and I was at 47:0 again. So yeah, I don't know what happened.

Well done!!!👍

I've given it a few more tries, and as far as I can tell, you have to pass the 2nd AI car by the time you get to the 2nd Degner corner. I would get a 47.1xx if I made the 2nd pass just before the 2nd Degner. I was getting 47.4xx-47.5xx if I was waiting until I was going thru the 2nd Degner corner.

Just for fun I also put in a few fast laps and was able to run a 45.973:) so there is a decent margin with this Mission. I'm sure some aliens could find another half second or so:eek:

Great fun!

Thank you to everyone. I usually only play for a while in the mornings before work so I'll try again tomorrow and keep y'all posted. :) for the record my times have been around .47.7s...

Haha. Saw what you did there.
O.T.: man, still no word on Fallout 4... It's been more than 6 years since F3 and more than 4 since FNV (which is basically an expanded F3).

Well done!!!👍

That was actually my problem: I never got close enough to pass the GT-R in Degner 1 or the Dunlop curve. If I could, I think could shave up to a second. The Degner complex is pretty fast, but you have to be on the racing line. If you're not, you're slow - simple as that.

Anyway, by breaking it down and judging by my inability of catching the GT-R sooner (while I'm always passing the NSX before the first left-hander), I think my problem are the esses themselves, especially the long right-hander just before Dunlop. I always seem to take a wide, outside entry and keep away from the inside until the end of the corner. I don't know why, I feel that staying on the inside (where the curb is) is slower.

BTW: wheel or DS3? Manual or auto?

.................Used a DS3 since dawn of mankind (okay actually since PS3 launch) and used auto....there ain't no enough of 'em buttons for manual changes....

Getting close!👍

Are you now passing the first AI car before the first left-hand ess?

Good luck!

Yes. I'm getting a better run in the first right. Well it's kinda like two turns. Still catching that last car in roughly the same spot. Degner 2 is it? If i see I'm ahead of my ghost line I'll usually panic. Guess i should turn that off so I'm not worried about it. And the course map for that matter. :)

Yeah, Degner 2 is the last corner of this challenge. I prefer referring to the corners by their name as they're easier to locate. They're also more specific than "corner numbers". It's especially applicable on older tracks that have well-known corners. Here's a map of Suzuka with the corner names (not all corners have names of course):

This map that I just found taught me that the last part of the esses is actually a separate corner with its own name: Gyaku Bank curve. TIL...

This track is full of two turns in one kinda.

Yup. Those (and the esses) make Suzuka so technical. Pretty easy to learn, very hard to master.

Getting the perfect line and drive out of Spoon is critical to a good lap time, as it leads onto the long uphill straight to 130R. A compromised exit can easily cost a full second by the time you arrive at the next corner. Obviously this section of the circuit isn't in play for this mission race though.
