IBM Thinkpad

How would you guys rate a IBM Thinkpad.... I am automaticly getting one for school (its required and they give it to you with the tuition). I just want to know how it is, this will be my first computer let alone laptop. I am sure its not going to be the top of the line and it will probly be windows XP since that what i think they all run on.
 
Thinkpads are some of the thoughest and best built laptops out there. I had a 300mhz 256mb ram Thinkpad running XP Pro like a champ. 👍 If I were going to buy a Windows based laptop, Thinkpad would be one of my first choices.
 
Well, it depends on the model and spec. But I'm typing this on my T42. It's the only laptop work have given me that I would be prepared to spend my own money on. It's excellent.

Some of the cheaper ones are a bit rough around the edges, but the suite of "helper apps" do just that, and if you get one with the fingerprint scanner, the biometric security and encryption facilities are serious stuff. The disk encryption software has NSA FIPS accreditation.
 
I am happy that the thinkpad is a good system. It does have the finger printscanner so would it be one of the higerones or do they all have the option. The school is suppplying them so I am sure they have to be sturdy for a bunch of students. I also think its the "T" series.
