Been going through my back catalogue of pictures (so many, 1500 for the TTRS alone, Lightroom tells me). So many still unedited. So much potential:

Plus today, I shot again a few nice ones.
This is one, taught it would be funny with all those hand-car holding pics :D

Plus recieved these:

R8 Oil, collant caps + window lifters with brushed alu trim
Lambo  water cap in black instead of blue.
The R8 oil cap I needed to modifiy to sit properly, the coolant sits upside down (didn't find a way to open it without breaking).

AND, worst of all, today while shooting I forgot to take a pic of the updated engine bay :ouch:. Soon ;)

+ the TTRS got an oilchange. Took that crap longlife oil out, and added some quality Mobil1 0W-40 :D

I didn't see A Lot of them, but they start popping up more and more. In the last 2 weeks I saw around 10. The first I saw was quite sometime ago here in the import thread.
Here's the first I found on FB.

Thanks buddy. Love your Scoobies too. Would love one in my "collection" :D

Thanks

Well I am planning on going after a Audi for my next car. RS6 Wagon is my dream whip so I was thinking about A5 Wagon and do a RS6 turbo swap and supporting mods. Thats all a dream right now though :P

Some stunning pics there. I wish my car was as photogenic, I tried doing some seaside shots (they're in the OP of my car thread), using a proper camera as well but somehow it just looks so-so at best.

Thanks man. Posted a reply for your pic in your thread ;)

Update:
The good, the bad and the awesome:

The good :
The Audi S3 has a painting date in less than a month. On the 7-14 or 14/7, ahhrg on the 14th July
I'm still not sure on the paint. It is between the purple/red shades or the green.

The Bad:
The S3 was not media blasted. Since it was in the garage, 4 other cars were done, not mine, every time I went in (every few weeks) I got the say " next week buddy". I went in today, said fu buddy, tomorrow the car is in my garage, you deliver it in the morning. So it will be with me tomorrow, than I have 3 weeks to do the rest of the work all by hand all by myself.

The awesome:

Muahahaha
5 Liters of White
5 Liters of Gunmetal Grey
5 Liters of Clear
5 Liters of Gloss
5 Tinting kits (5 base colours for mixing, plus some wierd american size paint cup, a bit more than 0,6 l.
750 ml of Smoke
100g Navy Blue
100g Laser Blue
100g Copper
100g Purple
100g Emearld Green

All undiluated so double the effective quantities. And I get my tinner dirty cheap :D

Nightshift.

Our truck today didn't managed to get the S3 out. Customs stopped the truck. 1.5 hours standstill. Pissed!

But life continues and me too,

I really was eager to try the plastidip on a whole car.
And not much to do today, so I started way to late. 10pm. Perped the garage. Then the car. Now small pause. Nearly done with taping off. Wheelarches, wheels, front spoiler lip and mirrors. Then I mix colours. And then painting.
Gonna be all night long :D

On the colour?
I still don't know. An hour before starting. I have the choice between copper, blue, purple (or mixing it to blurple)??

If you fast enough you can voice your colour. I will make an other pause inbetween.

In the morning it should be done.

This is the state now:

My boss at my old job plasti-dipped his Porsche Cayenne in black.
I didn't really like it though, it reminded me of a huge toy car for some reason. Yours looks much, much better so far though.👍

Nice you went for it, Turned out great! I have been considering giving this a go myself for the price and effect you get. Its not perfect if you get right up on it but its a pretty awesome little product and as soon as your over it.... peel it off. Even during nasty season it will act as a defense.

Where did you buy your materials from?

That looks really nice. Your paint Is If course a million times better and deeper but this is pretty cool to change things up.

^Exactly ;)

Where did you buy your materials from?

I got the original Perforamix Plastidip unthinned, and thinned it myself. Total cost around 200 bucks for the whole car.

So the conclusion 1 (conc.2 comes when I take it off)

+ Painting is easy. Is very forgiving. I had some drips that disappeared when it dryed.
+ Creating your custom paint is ridicolously easy. I wanted a blue with purple shimmering. Applied the blue base and the purple flakes while not covering 100%. Exactly the effect i wanted came out
- Extremely unhealty. THe Plastidip is okayish, it's the thinners. Most of the stuff is insta-cancer. and then I see on utub so many people painting without a mask. Stupid. Wear a mask even if it's just a can. I think in Canada most of the thinners aren't even available for public purchase. I used toluene to dilluate.
- Either paint in the free or rent a professional cabin that refreshens the air completely. I started out in the garage, 4 doors and the gate open, and a industrial vent running. It stank for 1.5 days. The purple I applied outdoor. Much better.
- Peeling off. Well I have around 10 layers on, and it still can be a pain. Admitted it is still very thin, but I think it will be a lot of work to get everything off, especially on the soft plastics and small parts. More on that when I take it off.
- Breaking at the edges. Works 99%. The break on my side windows didn't happen. Needed to cut with a platic japanese card (those used with bondos, don't know the name). It's the only place where the dip doesn't look good, and it is my fault, I should have taped of tight and take it off while still wet.
+-Finish. Colour is top notch. Exacly like I wanted. To the touch it is plastic, it feels like it but not where it feels ikey. It's really okay for what it is.

Conclusion : Awesome for 5 meters away, okayish for near. Awesome for daily drivers or "normal" cars. On new cars or special cars it ain't worth the hassle imho. Don't get me wrong I don't regret it. I had a cool weekend and a cool car in a new colour for a few weeks. But doing it again on the TT? Probably not, The GTR, hell yeah.

And again, please be careful while handling these products, it's nocive as it can get. I used the gloss dip undilluated. Sprayed fine and no nasty thinner in it. I gonna do a few test painting with different dillustions and see what is really needed. Package says 1:1 which is a LOT.

I will make an walkaround vid like in DYC videos so you can see it shimmering from blue to purple.
It's a real head turner. While in black, people didn't notice the RS so much. With that colour every one turns :D

@Ibonibo

Turned out great and I bet pics don't do the pearl effect any justice compared to how it looks in person. This would be an excellent way to protect paint before winter or before a very long road trip.

"breaking at the edges"
I seen the pictures of the tape still on there overnight after it "dried" and I actually cringed. I knew what was going to happen but was hoping it wouldn't. As a professional painter for many years I was going to suggest taking the tape off shortly after your last coat but seen the thread too late. But you already figured that out. Easy learning less for yourself and others that want to paint.

For those that are not sure what we are talking about, you don't ever want to leave tape on a painted surface over night. An hour or so after you finish your very last coat (of any painting project) remove the tape and prepwork. It prevents the paint from sticking to the tape...It prevents "breaking the edges". It also prevents dried paint flakes from going everywhere. I agree always wear a mask while painting. And not just a paper mask, a proper painting mask. Just helpful advice. Overall great job especially for only $200.00. Your attention to detail is always inspiring. 👍

Thanks @CAMAROBOY69 👍

I meant Plastidip breaks itself on edges or gaps. Normally. So you tape it off not exactly tight, leave 1/2 inch and peel that part of later as it should break straight on the edge. I did it like that on the windschield and rear light. Problem was that the Plastic strim around the windows has a too small gap to make the Plastidip break. I mismaneged that part.
But on the rest spot on, even on plasti dip it applies if you try to make lines in the paint or on parts where it doesn't break itself.

Thanks.

So walkaround vid:

It was a bit cloudy, so I searched for a spot with enough sun. After a bit found one, jsut parked a Civic Type R parks next to me. Guy starts to chat about the TT's and how he wants a TTRS. We talked for a good 30 min. When he was gone, the sun was gone too. So a in the shade walkaround.

THe car really turns head. So many people turning around. A guy in a misanored RS3 nearly fall out of the window then turning around

Enough talk:

Excellent video! It really looks like a multi thousand dollar paint job. I cant wait to see a video of it in the sunlight.

What camcorder is that? The quality is very impressive. Many cameras struggle to capture metal flake but yours did very well.

So the RS has been undipped. More on that soon ;)

I am now currently busy again with the S3 which has returned in my garage, mediablasted ;)

Yeah they finally did it, after I spoke with the uncle and made a bit of a scene.

It was litterally on the last hour. Got the car back today at 11. They close at 12. And the car goes in Monday. 👍

In the afternoon I have a painter buddy that comes help me putting the big parts back on the car.
I need to sand the mediablasted parts with 320pp as it is a bit rough after the blast.
Then it should be good to go in.

And I really should now start thinking about the colour!!!!:lol:

I am just tired, so tired after two days of batch working, lot of sanding, mainly sanding....
(from sat. 12pm till 11pm. Today from 12pm to 11pm, slept in :D)

It's only @ 90% where I would have loved to have it before it goes in, but time was too sparse.

So my colour choices boil down to:
Audi Emarldgreen
Porsche Amethyst metallic
Nissan Midnight Purple (but I fear that it's too sepcial, expensive and hard to repair, correct if something happens)
Designo Mystico Blue

I will try to get sample painted to better make a choice.

Tomorrow the big day, after an aweful 7 years with a ducked up paintjob.

This is the result after a weekend of work.
