Now as I start coming to the "end", I start the parts quest

Now the biggest joke : Audi stopped producing soo much beginning this year. A few months earlier, and I would have gotten brand new parts. Now no avail.

This applies to the whole interior tissues.
My roof, sun roof, sky is not that good looking anymore, especially after some stray cats pissed on it....

Without the roof, I can't attach the rest....



Now ebay wasn't that helpful for weeks. I now found one, only Acolumn missing, sunmirrors and handles. And it doesn't look crap. But no dispatch to my country...

Sent a mail, seeing where it goes....

If that works out, it would solve a lot of problems in assembling

Well, I guess I need to go the rewrapping route...

Just going to try and find some b pillar covers as those are impossible to wrap....

Bought some 2kEpoxy rattle can + 2k black filler can + Wax conservation rattle can....

I don't want to buy that in liters only for the screws....

Also bought rear supension arms adjustable, in order to get my camber sorted in the rear. While it is fun to drive in dry, you feel in wet that only part of the rubber hits the ground....

As for the new rims, I'm torn between these

The sparcos cost 1/3 more than the Enkei's.

All sub 1k. I would love me some BBS or OZ's. But costing way over 1.5k.... without tyres ...

Depends on the size, I'd go with the enkei on a bigger/wider size but with the 2nd sparcos if it were less wide as there will probably be little convavity.

Coloured the forgotten places, corrected the passenger side mirror. Clear coated a few hours

I have a tiny rest of clear, for the screws, ... and if something would have ....

I think approx. I have 4 liters (a gallon) of pure clear on the car now. + hardeners (2l) + Elastifier (1l = 25 -30%).

I sincerely hope that is enough. It should be around 5-7 coats.This time I applied the coats a bit thicker. Hoped to reduce peel at a minimum.

Gonna see tomorrow if it worked. Did look a tad better than on the first clear pass, but still not "finishing" gloss....

The render is better than on the first go. Some places are really clean, some have more peel. Way behind perfect, but should easily be enough to sand it smooth and then a quick polish... after winter a proper detail session

A bit overwhelmed with building it back together It's been some time since the strip, ... need a lot of parts, lot sof small stuff...
But I'll get there, eventually
for now, I need to get the fenders back on, then the sills, then the back. Then it should be good to get down to my place, where all the parts are....
Then after some more building it goes into the workshop to get new windows front and back. They can assemble some of the more complicated stuff and replace some glued joints.

can't wait.

5-7 coats will be plenty to allow any sanding pattern you want without cutting through into the base coat. So glad you listened to my advice about the 5-7 layers of clear.

Also as I said before make sure you tape all the edges before assembly so you don't accidentally bump an edge and chip off the clear. Looking forward to the final pics after you wet sand and buff.

Well today I went on a shopping spree.

Screws nuts bolts seals

All ordered new.

Finally found brand new door and window jam seals. In black :score:

Friday most should be there. Some parts I need to assemble the fenders, sideskirts and rear.

Till then I have enough to sand or other assembling to do.

I didn't forget the underbody seal that needs to be applied in the rear wheel arches, sills, fender holder holders.
Rattlecan is ready.

My other rattlecans arrived. Weekend when all the parts are there, the last spray will be done, some visible screws get painted and the rear tow hook ( which I ordered brand new )

So much to do still, but awesomeness is rising. Slowly but continuously

Okay ceiling / roof update.

I have found the holy grale in the S3 world.

A pristine dealer-stocked roofline in black. With everything brandnew.
Handles, A-b-c pillars in black. Trunk lid in black, Sunvisors in black, Lights and buttons in black.....

Everything in BLACK

Only hickup.... it's so expensive brand new . But I might be too tempted. I want a new one, one that will not sag in after months, without smell, without battlescars...

I wrote the dealer a mail. We'll see tomorrow.

I worked today a bit on getting the parts. Probably around 70 positions

Lots of small stuff.

Then I got screws and bolts for the rear aluminium bumper. Gave them a quick rustprimer coating. Tomorrow the mount. Later when I will work with sealant again, they get covered in it. And then lay a underbody seal layer on it. SAFE

Sanded a bit.

Cleaned a bit in the room. I can now start to get stuff back to where it belongs and start freeing up the room.

It's really nice having a new one but it will sag eventually anyway. Can't you recover yours with maybe even better materials for less $?

^Haha not available anymore, not a fan of second hand wheels, and waaaaay too expensive.

On the roofline,... well after a few email back and forth about availabilty, the dealer can still get the small parts but the big roofline not

Well guess that's some money saved...
Now my choices boil down to :

- rewarp it myself. Have all materials here, Alcantara/Suede tissue, feathered? (with some foam on it). Special glue....
I would do the A & C Pillars + the roofline itself, B pillar and small stuff bought new from Audi

- Let it be rewarped. No idea on the price, but it probably isn't cheap and how knows about the quality....

Starting to really come together. I would paint or undercoat those primered bolts. As you can see, once they go in, the primer comes off the threads exposing bare metal. That = rust. Even if you simply brush on some sort of sealer, primer, or undercoat it will help. Especially since you are in a climate that has fluctuating temperatures. After all this hard work, last thing you want is obviously rust.

Good luck with the headliner. That is an area I have never attempted to repair. So now you will get to teach me something.

I doubt the headliner will be anywhere near as hard as anything you've done, just make sure to get nice thick materials and good glue. The process itself should be pretty simple, especially since you already have everything off.

And I haven't even started with the tube sealant, that will get done when mounting the front fenders as they need some under them in order not to create water nests (that's when I do the rear screws also, and then some undercoat on it ).

This all was used in the process

I haven't forgotten the rear, I will do that when mounting the front fenders, then those (fendermounts) get a bit of wax too when installed... ( I will only open the tube of sealant then)

Now I need to wait on parts. Weekend is sanding... again ....

Wanted to paint the screws and tow hook, but I am missing 2 screws taht need painting ... next week

Put some special tape over the edge that touches the outer wall of the rear fender. Eliminating friction

sadly the cam did focus on the wrong part

i could now put the rear bumper on if I would intent to. But first sanding.

Let's talk cavities...

The car has some spots where there is a bigger cavity in it. Like quite deep. Not comfortable sanding till I get that out, looks too deep to have enough Clear on it for years.

If you scroll up 3 pics, the rear bumper has 2 of those spots...

Would it be possible to fill those up?

If I buff the cavity, mix a tiny bit of clear, and layer it in the cavity till it's flatten, 2000 sand, polish?

Doable?

I plan on sanding everthing pre assembling
same goes for polish.
(That way I come over the edge that is seeable but not as reachable and detailable when mounted)

Well, the detailer in me has gone crazy,

Ordered a deluxe pack of the Rupes 15ES (2 pads from corse to ultrafine, + 250ml of Rupes compounds + goodies)

For the compounds I have:

Menzerna FG300 250ml
Menzerna FG400 1L
Menzerna IP2100 250ml
3M Fine compound Plus (50417)

+Some applicator pads (for hand application)
+ Koch Chimie Magic Plast Care (Platic trim)



Should be good for the polish step

Today the 2 last visible screws arrived.

So I can now paint them. Then I can start putting the car back together and repatriating it.

The screws that are left for painting : Door lock 4 , door 2, fuel cap 2, rear hatchet 4 +2, fender 10
Plus the rear tow hook

Without the fenders I can not install the side skirts ....

Later today I gonna take the bumpers home. And some small stuff. Car will follow as soon as the hatch is on again.
Then last sand, polish, assembling

WTH Audi

A bag of Fender repair kit (all screws, nuts, bolts,...) yet it doesn't fit with their part program.... I need to control on old pictures. I have a pretty good idea which one goes where, just need to make sure...

Question about these:
It's normal for quite a bit to stay over after pinching them? The rest is simply dremel'd or pinched off?

There are 2 beams sandwich'ing the rear bumper on the car. Sadly those had a bit of rust....
Did this one, looked the other part. Rust too. Should I open a new can of epoxy just for one piece...?

Been a lot of preparation getting everything back without harm....
Deciding what to leave at the car to complete it, and what to take down.... some things I could use in both places....

When the car is back, it should go fairly quick as I can then push the hours I put into it.

Yes you can mix up some clear and place the clear into the "cavities". Then wet sand and buff out.

Yes sand the drop away, touch some base onto it with a brush or Q tip, then touch some clear onto it with a brush or Q tip. Wet sand, buff.

Old Vs New

Sprayed the rest today. Sprayed in the closed offed section away from the car (covered it up to be save)

Placed it here to dry, needed the door to get out

Recleared the one mirror that was recoloured

Rupes and Polishes arrived

None. Had to unscrew it to cut it. Dremel was already at home,... forth- back- cut, installed, fits.

the painted tow hook is so overkill. Love it

Pain getting there, had to put some on the tip of the finger and massage it in Will pass with underbody seal over it....

Leaves the trunk and the locks (so the parts stay on while transporting) and then it can return home
