Now I don't know if I continue the S3 for today or clean the TT. So much to do :S

Looks like it's coming along nicely! 👍 What colour will you go for when you repaint it?

Worked a bit on the S3, and man, totally rusted scews for the side skirts. Not even a screw anymore. Pics tomorrow... rest of the day = rest

I want to make a render of how it will look when it's done.
I tend for white as it is an easy colour to paint and repaint if something would go wrong.
Will get Carbon laminated Mirrors, front intake, side, and back inlays (the ones that are black now). Get's the original front on it with a Seat Leon Cupra Lip.
18*8" Wheels (either Enkei or OZ), tinted back windows, adjustable arms for rear camber.

Then the car as a project should be "done" (till the engine gets rebuilt somewhere down the road).
You know how that is ... XD

I have a guy at work that was a painter for 30 years in Portugal. I tend to go that road, very cheap.

I don't want to spend another 8 grand in the bodywork of the S3. That would have been the cost for a shop to completely get to the metal and repaint it....

That sounds Very nice, good luck 👍

8K sounds pretty excessive for a full paint job, I'd say something along The lines of 5-6K sounds more reasonable

Update:

"What Am I, a screw, a nail ??"
Yeah this were holding my skirts together. How retarded does it get ?

Rusted and overturned screw :

20130806_180829Medium_zps832c8950.jpg

From the metal fender all screws messed up, need to verify though if the screws are welded or not.

Colour is so badly dryed that it still chews after 6 years :?

Got the headlight and Intercooler out on one side:

Will get cleaned:

20130805_190237Medium_zps61c5eac6.jpg

The other side will follow, but one screw is well hidden, so either brake my hand or take the batterie out. Take batt and air filter out, and maybe the engine bay will be painted too.

And a PShop of how it could look when done:

So Update I guess

Firstly help corner:

How do I unlatch this, I just have no clue how to attack it...

Just pull??

I used to use this screw so often, It's just unexplainable to me how the *** you brake this...

Rusted & overscrewed:

Fiddled this out of the sill:

Bend down only to discover this *shocked*

20130808_172552Medium_zps46da3a58.jpg

What the ****. Mind blown for the x time. Plus the scew is totally blown, so on both sides, I can't remove the skirts because of 1 broken screw.

Finally got this one out after a 20 min fight:

20130808_182946Medium_zpsd9892d00.jpg

So there was a buffersticker under the license plate. On 2nd try, they didn't even remove that. Lazy Idiots.

Finished for today.

Need to sort the problems out, then I can remove the side windows. Take the seats out. Mask up the doors and restart grinding...

This is where a pin is hold, they probably screwed through, took the dremel and cleaned it:

Paintlayers contain a air bubble:

Why can't it end...

Tomorrow the other side. Cover it up, and then continue to sand

Yes mate. All by myself.
Thing is that if friends help and they brake something or grind too much of, I'm pissed and can't do anything about it. So I do it myself and if I make a mistake, I can only be pissed about myself (till now, I have not done one :D )
But if needed I get a second pair of helping hands... ;)
And it's now 10 years that I own and work on this particular model. So I know it in and out. I have no plan for demounting or remounting. Everything in my head

But I agree, it's a guargantum task, a bit overwhelming at times, but one step at a time, and then at the end you've gone the whole way ...

But I also need to note, that I have never gone to this lenghts with a car. Never done this kind of work. Especially a whole car. So for a first timer, I think it's not bad.

But the car will go into my cousin garage or Germany to get rid of the rust by high pressure air sanding, take the front and rear windows out and all the mounting holes will be replaced by them. And painting I have a guy that does it for me. On the remounting, some parts need to be done in the shop as I lack some material and it's too expensive to get for the few times I need it.

So not entirely alone.

On remount, all screws will be replaced with new one, nearly all broken parts will be replaced (or repaired, like the Xenon, which is too expensive for one broken mount). If it all goes to 95% of the plan, the car will be better than on delivery :D

The roofline in gray is finished, ready for prime when the rest follows
20130811_214614Medium_zps0fb471e9.jpg

The layer built is quite frankly bizarre. In some places they removed the 2 more layers than in general. So hit the metal quite often today (well a bit on a few centimeters). But now I get a hang of it how retarded they painted...
Problem is I can't get rid of all the paint in the joints as it is impossible to do, to uneven surface, but on those places there a fewer layers and they look okay.
I hope it will hold the new paint....
I could talk for hours about the paint

All by hand, quite time consuming

The coulour is gonna be probably Audi Suzuka Grey
244034_10151061388242540_106182734_o.jpg

It's 20€/liter and plain Audi White is 30€
Not a really hard choice

Battleplan for painting is done in my head. Now need to get it on paper. Also probably will get painted sooner, sept- octob., because in winter I am afraid the paint will not dry properly

Are you going to strip the entire interior to get it stripped and painted or planning to tape off the interior, but keep the doors untaped for painting? Same for the engine - is that coming out?

The colour choice is awesome, that looks much much nicer then plain white!

Thanks 👍

No the interior stays in, too much electronics all around :S. I basiclly will tape of where I tapped of now. Engine bay, engine stays in, as it's silver it wouldn't be a catastrophe with white. I was thinking of demounting some engine parts and covering the rest then spraying, but I need to see how it turns out...

Update:

2 hours to get through the clearcoat and not even entirely, how much did they spray on it ...

now both window spots should be clean pretty fast :D
Scraped it of with a screwdriver

What would it have cost to have the car media blasted?

Costs around 140 bucks an hour...

So acid bath is a cheaper alternative.

The last days have taken it's toll.

I will media blast the hood, fenders, doors, and trunk myself.

The rear panels will be finished with sanding. The door-sill and frame will be paint stipped.

The small parts take too much time. The rear windows frame costed me hours...

They didn't even remove the tape ...

20130816_161945Medium_zps44f41c89.jpg

and found it funny to paint my interior...

20130816_163638Medium_zpsce846b2c.jpg

Wierd place to tape off

20130816_174555Medium_zps308a0c65.jpg

20130816_195038Medium_zps4e824e4b.jpg

20130816_195056Medium_zps2197373c.jpg

Rear frame 90% done, even removed the red from the welding spots

20130817_183459Medium_zps125de2ef.jpg

Cleaned:

Primed:

20130817_184024Medium_zps2c489c47.jpg

So,
trunk, bonnet, doors, fenders = media blasted
trunk frame and doors frame = stripped
rear panels and roof = sanded

Those little things are nerv wrecking

otherwise, I go through discs :

So,

The side panels of the S3 are done (since weeks). Tried to get the paint of the window frames with the chemical option. Didn't work well and it made the metal rust in a matter of minutes.

So now I wait till the weather is a bit better and the media blast machine is free at work, to blast off the doors, trunk, hood and fenders.

The frames of the windows, doors and trunk will be made by a garage.

...

As always it streches timewise...

On the TTRS, I bought these:

20130810203742ughfvzlrd6.jpg

New, only buyable when ordering a car, not available in aftermarket.
Made by quattro GmbH, leather on the edges.
Cost new: 460€

Got them brand new for 280€ transport incl.

👍

The S3 goes into the shop the 30-9 to get media blasted...
so slowly it goes forward.

Here a few new shots of the RS:

I though that 2013 TTRS would have have LED-Tailights as our 2010 A4 has them.

Very nice pictures! Loving the wheel pic and the 2nd last!

EDIT: Now i am not sure are those LED

Thanks guys 👍

The rear lights are not LED, sadly. They have OLED in concept, but they will never become available :(

Thanks.
Yeah the r33 had a paint clipping and bit of rust on the roof, so it was in respray process the last 3 months. It came out last week.
