So what do you guys think.

Got my Dvd today. Still need to wait till I can play.

I look forward to the graphical side.

Hope ID deliver as always.

Im going to get this 100%, but im a cheapskate so ill wait till its platinum.

In all honesty, if its even just the tiniest bit better than fallout 3 i will be in love for a long time!

From the reviews I've read, it's nothing like fallout. It's a fairly linear game. I pre ordered an import not too long ago and am waiting on delivery, but so far the reviews are very mixed, some saying it's solid, others that it's terrible. I also hear ATi owners are experiencing some major graphics issues which is a little disheartening as I'm running one. I really want to like this game having been such a fan of id's past work. Fingers crossed, although they have their work cut out for them going up against the onslaught of really good shooters being released shortly.

I am really disappointed :(

Talking about PC graphical, console might be good for console standards (for me on the PC this is an important point so my subjective feeling was heavily based on it, so consoleros may see it diferently).

Talking big about their new super duper multi textures, but the graphics are not on pair with the previous graphical achievements of ID.
The texture have a great variety but when you to close to the textures they become muddy.
Worst I've seen in the first 20 min is pipes painted on the texture (hello we are 2011)!!!
Even worse, I can built an honest opinion about the graphics because all I can customize is AA and resultion. What that for a practice, especially it seems PC veterans do that (crysis 2 + rage now, pppfffff)

The game from the concepts seems to be a mash between Fallout and Borderlands, but being inferior to both games in soo many domains, plus the linarety of Id games.
What i hate in so many games, including this one is travelling across the map to fetch a shiny object and then run across the whole map again to delivered it (those cheap tactics to lengten the game spoit already so many games)

The shooting is good but nothing outstanding.
Story is piss poor, and nearly every element seems copied from other games.

All those reviews giving it more than 6/10 are due to the name of ID.

Now on the better things:

It's not all bad, maybe my expectations were too high because of ID previous work, would it be another developper I wouldn't have been that harsh.
The driving seems good (with keyboard not ideal, but it's fun)
Shooting is fun, having 10 weapons slots is soo welcome.
Need to play more, but after 3 hours I am really disappointed with ID newest work.

Fairly average shooter in a time where so many games come out, not good....

This game is an absolute mess. I have the PC version, and it's filled with bugs and graphic issues, and i'm not even on an ATI card, but Nvidia, which is suppose to be the most stable with RAGE. Outside of the technical issues, the game itself just feels very outdated, and considering it took 7 years to make, that's not surprising. This game has just been done before and a lot better at this point.

I'm glad ID Software plans on having Doom IV out in 2 years though.

^Try the beta driver 285.35. It works with those.
But your right. It's not up to ID standards this game or they missed all the evolutions.

You can argue that it is old school type of game, but I had more fun playing Duke Nukem Forever than this....
And DNF wasn't that good

But your right. It's not up to ID standards this game or they missed all the evolutions.

The problem I think might be that id comes from an era when making an FPS was enough. It was new different and exciting genre and technology. They are responsible for kicking it and team deathmatch off with wolf/doom/quake, but since then the FPS has evolved with CS, MW and battlefield (and even RPGs like fallout) have done things different and better and id have simply not kept the pace.

Carmack is a programmer, not a game designer. I feel he might be out of touch with what gamers expect from a modern day shooter. He's philosophy has always been to ensure his engines run quick and smooth but all games do nowadays and that's simply not enough to win over gamers.

My copy of rage arrives next week, but I'm already totally bummed out by what I've read about this game.

Also not really that interested in the news that Doom 4 is now in full production. If id is to survive as a company, I can't help but think that it might be time for Carmack to step away from the company. I think doom might be an ip that should be left to sit in the hall of fame as a once glorious achievement, I have a feeling Doom4 will not be the saviour that id is looking for.

yes totally.

The game isn't bad, but simply the expectations and hype were too high.

All he said about Id tech 5, one could expect to blow a head away (like quake 2 with a voodoo) but it ain't.
If you look at Frostbite2 that is a really good engine or the crytec engine but this seems like out of 2007.
I expect they going to patch it up so that you can actually select the visual settings.
There are none at all. Not even low med high.
I will try to look up for the config file tomorrow and look what's possible.

But as you and I already stated: They missed out the last 2 years of gaming (interactive environnement, open world, not painting the tubing on the texture,....)

I will probably play the game once all the good stuff came and is played to dead.
Now there is simply too much other better stuff.

Never thought I gonna regret a ID game purchase.

I guess I shall scratch this one off the ol' Christmas list. Uncharted and Skyrim are now moving up.

I really can't believe this game didn't live up to it's hype. I'm slightly dissapointed and I don't even own it.

I got Rage on ps3 and its totally awesome. Completely lives up to its hype plus much much more!

Its visually stunning. Gameplay is very solid and the AI has done things i've never seen in my 15 years plus gaming. There's so much to do..its all good fun, be it upgrading weapons & engineering, racing to buy vehicle upgrades or doing the side quests or searching for stuff. Its all there! Nice.

Yes' i'm fully aware of all the problems people are having on the pc platform. That's just unfortunate. id surely will fix every thing and carmack has said some problems lie with amd/ati. There's already a patch out for pc.

Imho, id has delivered in volumes. 👍 👍 👍

Well my copy finally arrived. I really did want to like this game, after all id have produced some epic games in the past. I'll play it through till the end just so I don't feel like I was totally ripped off, however the gameplay is simply not fun. It's a corridor shooter so you don't really get to flank much or use any strategy really apart from stand still and shoot with the occasional strafe. The enemies do hop around, which is kind of cool but yet again, easiest strategy is to stand in one place and pick them off while do perform their acrobatics.

I'd probably liken this game to fallout 3 but without everything that makes fallout good (ie. open world, proper rpg elements, story etc).

Let's start with the story or lack there of. Sure it's a shooter and it doesn't need a massively fleshed out story but seriously this is lacking the basic necessities.

The scenery is pretty, but only if you don't look too closely. I'm also experiencing some issues with the texture not loading quickly enough when you move, so if I'm not standing still, which is all the time, it looks terrible.

Oh the driving part of this game is woeful. The buggies don't slide at all I find the entire driving thing to be a bit of a nuisance with the travelling back and forth between locations. Actually why is it in this game at all? Its like id couldn't make up their minds if they wanted a FPS, RPG or driving game and thus, all three aspects feel undercooked.

I honestly can't recommend this game to anyone.

Edit: I'd like to add that this game crashes with alarming frequency as well!
