If PD can't get the F1 license...

Even if they dont get the f1 license they still have the ferrari license so I think they should make the most of it and put in some of their old classics like the 156 and the 126 so we can try f1 cars from different era's. Im ok with not having varied A.I like with the f10 only racing f10's.

Codemasters are doing a great job with the F1 licence. PD would just have the cars in the game but they wouldnt do anything like proper rules etc

I don't know why anyone would want PD to get the F1 license.

They're just going to have maybe 2 or 3 tracks they race on, have no rules or flags in the race or anything close to resembling an F1 race.

I don't want the F1 World Championship, I just want F1 cars and a few tracks (the older tracks ideally, most of Tilke's tracks are boring). Spa, Silverstone, Magny Cours and Hockenheim would be my personal choices. Monza with the Banking would be good as well (the oval could also be used in Nascar races).

That's called a half ass effort. I'd rather the F1 license go to a developer who's actually serious about making an F1 game.

A game with qualifying, black flags, safety cars, etc. etc. If PD ever got a hold of the F1 license, it would look like a mere afterthought and would be an incomplete "simulation" of the sport.

I agree with CarreraGT.

Because look at what PD did with the NASCAR and WRC licences, absolutely nothing! There's what, 2 NASCAR tracks in the game? No qualifying, no racing rules, crappy AI, and WRC is virtually non-existent save for a couple of cars. F1 is the pinnacle of motorsport and, as such, needs to be so much more than just realistic physics. I'm not sure PD would be capable of portraying the atmosphere and intensity of Formula 1.

I would love for them to do classic f1 cars or perhaps model all of Ferrari f1 championship cars.

Update Cote d' Azur with the new paddocks and pit exit
Classic Hockenheimring Pre-Tilke butcher
Austria A1 Ring

SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! with the original Bus stop chicane

Those would be nice, but I don't think they would need the F1 license to get those.

I dont know that there's a license required to put alot of these cars in, its just that PD didnt want too.

They'd rather have 385 Nissan Skylines, 180 diff Mazda Miata models.

Sony had F1 license from 2003-2006 so surely they can included cars from those ?

SPA was rumored already and Silverstone track is also good chance to make for the next game. Many other F1 tracks they can include in the game I hope they do good job with tracks also. They visited RBR HQ at Austria there is a nice fast track there too, A1-ring

I hope they have already started planning for the next game

well... why porsche didnt gave the licence to PD??

so why a crappy game like shift got these licences?

many things on this planet go wrong...

Porsche has always had an exclusive licence with EA and need for speed. they even made a need for speed with all porsches.

Except where Porsche was also in the Forza Motorsport series. There were 27 Porsches in FM3.

What's the difference, and why can't PD get a "sublicence"? I don't care what the licence is called, as long as they get Porches in the game

It costs money. Maybe PD doesn't have the money, maybe they don't want to spend the money. Maybe Kaz crashed a Porsche and doesn't like them. Who knows?

Considering they spent over $60 million on GT5 I doubt it was a financial thing, so who knows what the real story is...

Besides I wouldn't imagine the Ferrari or Lamborghini licences would have been cheap.

I think people are confusing the F1 licence with licences to use the cars.

F1 is a competition formula based on certain types of races and with certain build regulations.

The rights to use the name, logo and simulations of the formula are licensed by FOA.

The cars are the properties of their respective builders and are free to be licensed... once the exclusivity deal with FOA has passed. Only one team are an exception to that because of their historic status.

I think OP wants PD to licence some Formula Nippon cars rather than Formula Nippon itself, personally I agree - I'd like to see as many open-wheel racers as possible :)

F1 liscense would be immense but im crp at F1 anyway lol

Off topic: every is arguing about why porcshe arent in the game and at the ad abouve there is a porchse shop advert lol

I always think the PD license is slightly strange. Regarding the open wheel thing I think Nippon would be great, or you have Auto GP or even Super League Formula(though this opens up so many more license issues) would be cool. I'd like a specified real series in the game.
But on the license thing again perhaps PD refuse to spend too much on any licenses as they believe their brand is brilliant value advertising(I suspect NASCAR handed it over cheaply as they could gain exposure in new markets or PD may have been willing to pay to gain a greater following in North America). I mean the licenses are all available, look at Forza or Shift or Grid, I mean Grid has so many series and brands mentioned in it.

So it's a licensing issue. Makes sense. I scoured the web for F1 video then found that it's tightly controlled by F1. You have to register with them to get access to their videos. Also noticed that F1 2011 is the "Official" F1 racing game.

So the FTG is PD's answer to not having the F1 license. How then did they get the two Ferrari's in the game?

Also noticed some of you don't like the GT5 physics model for F1 racing. Is it that bad or is it just a purist thing? F1 is quickly becoming one of if not my top favorite. I like the PD physics model and wish there were a ton more F1 in the game. Instead of the mulitiple Nissan GT-Rs and Silvias, etc, etc...they could have given us 100 different versions of F1 cars and I'd be a happy camper! Need the tracks PD! DLC please!

If only we had these. Or atleast the second one. I love both but mainly the second one. I haveno idea what they are, only that there made by Lotus. :D

if you can find an old copy get yourself Lotus Challenge for the PS2. Think it was a lunch game, but it has both those cars and more. Plus it seemed to predict the way racing games were going to go over the next decade.

Ferrari is the only team not controlled fully by Bernie and his mates. That is because Ferrari are special and Ferrari (correct me if I'm wrong) are the only team that has full control of it's license.

The F1 handling isn't bad, for a lightweight fast powerful hyper go kart
It is bad for an F1 car. The gears change at twice the speed as real life, the twitchiness and readiness of a real F1 car isn't there. The engine doesn't feel as ready and the aerodynamics aren't right.

Back to the topic, I would not want Forza, NFS or GT to ever have a F1 season. Formula 1 is the most exotic and complicated Motorsport. It's got a charm and character that goes beyond good physics and fancy looking cars. F1 should have a game all to itself and it does with Code Masters so F1 is all fine.

I'm not a fan of open wheel racing apart from F1, but they could add IndyCar which I admit isn't as exciting but then its not exactly boring. Then we can have a proper Indy 500 and get other tracks like Montreal and Miami street course which looks like fun.

Good topic Midnight Snacks. There are quite a few open wheel categories that PD could have implemented (including Formula Renault 2.0 and 3.5) and TBH, would have preferred these lower powered cars to F1 cars.

@Kiwi. F1 is the Rockstar of motorsports IMO, that's it's personality. I would not call it charming. I'd call it cutthroat, ruthless, intense, all in. Those are the words I'd use to describe it and I love it!!! Agree it should have it's own game; but I don't know if codemasters has the physics to match GT5. I will now buy it and give it a shot.

Sicne PD has a lotus license wouldnt they be able to get their f1 cars?
I would want these

I actually wouldnt mind a game with only those cars 100 percent recreated in sound detail handling etc.
