If you could resurrect one dead car brand...

...which one would it be and what would you do?

Apologies if this has been done already, but I've searched around and I can't find anything similar.

So anyway, which bankrupt/failed car brand would you rescue from the great scrapyard in the sky and give a new lease of life? What cars would you build? Where would you be based? What motorsports would you compete in? What in general would you do with the brand?

Personally, I would bring back the recently deceased Saab, and the model range would be:
A stylish, retro designed supermini (think new Mini, new 500, new Beetle) based on the 92, and maybe enter it in the WRC. EDIT: Apparently Saab were actually planning a modern 92 for 2014 before they went bankrupt.
Modern day versions of the 99 Turbo and the Sonett III
And production versions of the crazy PhoeniX and Aero X concept cars.

Leave your ideas, please.

A rather obvious answer, but I'd bring back the old Lancia, making ridiculous but exciting cars, rather than the rebadged Chryslers they're 'selling' now.

Maybach.
While the upcoming S-Class line up is great, the Maybach brand will always be greater. It'd be nice to see them bring back and redesign the 57(s) and 62(s), while introducing newer production models like the Xenatec Cruiserio.

While they haven't really died yet, I'm beginning to miss them already 👎.

I was never a big fan of Maybach, but I did love the 2005 Exelero Concept. It's a real shame that never made it to production.

MG.

Why? They were a simple little British car Manufacturer who built some of the best cars of the 80's like the Midget

How could I forget?! TVR, I want them back. Actually, I'd like all the small British manufacturers back, they all made great cars.

This. I've seen a quite few MGs on the street and also after seeing all those British roadsters on GT4 I have a soft spot for them.

Is it possible to bring back the entire 1960s?

Car wise obviously not life style, god :dunce:

Well, I can't choose. No really, I want: TVR, MG, Triumph, Pontiac, and Saab.

Jensen. They were pretty innovative, making one of the first 4wd systems, and had cars with awesome names, such as the Jenson Interceptor...

Pontiac. Make it more of a performance division.

GTO
G8 (re-name it... gasp, the Commodore. Not a fan of alphanumerics; give us the ute, too)
Solstice
Firebird
Fiero (do it well this time)

End.

Most car brands died for a reason. Not all of them good and not all of them fair.

But it's a crime that TVR isn't around. Griffith. Cerbera. Chimera. Tuscan. V8S.

On a tangent, I want the Rover V8 engine back.

I agree with ya, there.👍

As far as an older brand, I would love to see a modern interpretation of some DeSoto models, such as the Fireflite or Adventurer.

Ross
MG.

80s? :odd: ;)

I think you mean 60s and 70s. The MGB survived into the 80s, but MG is best known in the 80s for the Metro/Maestro/Montego, rather than little sports cars. And they really weren't the best cars of that decade!

As already said, TVR any day of the week.

Would also be nice to if Bristol manufactured cars again. Never seen one yet but from images they look stunning.

Also although I'd probably never see one it would be nice to see what Tucker could come up with if they were still somehow around.

Jensen. They were pretty innovative, making one of the first 4wd systems, and had cars with awesome names, such as the Jenson Interceptor...

Have you seen this ?

I'd like to see the old AMC back. They always made good muscle cars with no money that were a great value. They always had the stars and stripes paint job and big block power so what's not to like. With some money I think they would have had some innovative cars.

I'd like to see the old AMC back.

This. Absolutely and completely! AMC had one of the most underrated product lines of the '60s, '70s, and '80s. Unlike the other car makers AMC was forced to compete with, they maximized their (meager, admittedly) financial resources and made every dollar go further relative to the Big 3 and the Imports. Their cars were (to me) better styled than anything else on sale in their respective classes in their time. Quality was no worse; it was often better in many areas. They helped to pioneer four wheel drive in passenger vehicles, and cars like the Pacer and Eagle were far ahead of their time.

AMC, had they survived past 1987, I think would have turned the corner and been in a prime position to serve the North American car market. Besides, after Chrysler took over they absorbed significant parts of AMC's management and engineering talents, which I think speaks to their merits. I would love to see what a modern AMC could produce, and I smile on those joyous rare occasions when I see one on the road.

Also, Pontiac would be a close second, but mostly because I drive one!

 I wonder how much they will be. If they are less than £20,000, I will be getting one as soon as I'm past 26 and the insurance premiums have gone down.

They won't be less than £20,000, unless they are absolutely rubbish and fall apart constantly...

And I forgot about the new Interceptor. Hopefully it drives as good as it looks, and doesn't have various different steering racks from random cars...

Pontiac:
Firebird, with the Trans Am and Formula trims. They would be a 2+2 coupe (with no room in the back seats so its a true coupe) with a 3.5 V6, 305 and 350 with manual as standard. T-Tops as an option.

Tempest, with Le Mans, GTO trims and limited edition Judge package. Would come in 2 door/ 4 door 5 seater FR drivetrains. Would come with same engine as the Firebird range Be a luxury sports car kinda like a 5 to 7 series. The GTO and Judge would be limited to a two door manuals, with the Judge getting lightweight parts and a supercharger. Tempest and Le Mans trims have available convertible tops.

Ferio, with Gt and Solstice tirms. A MR two seater hard top/ T-top car. With a 2.5 liter I4 or shoehorn a 3.5 V6 in. Base Ferios are I4, GT's have the option to get the V6, and the Solstice comes absolutely loaded with the V6 as standard.

Grand Prix with Grand Am, GTP, and Hybrid trims. A FWD 2 door/ 4 door 5 seater with an 2.5 I4 or 3.5 V6. The Prix is the base model with the I4, the Grand Am with the option of the V6, and the GTP would be the only one were you can get a two door, V6 with a manual. The Hybrid would get the I4, an automatic, and a choice between 2 and four door. Convertible as an option on the Grand Prix and Grand Am.

Sunfire, I'm not sure what to call it's trims. This would be the brands Hatch, with 3 door and 5 door models. Would have same engine options as the Grand Prix and Ferio, but the top of the line model would be AWD.

Sunbird, again I don't know what to call it's trims. Would come in 4 door and 5 door hatchback. Would be available with a diesel, a small I4, and a hybrid unit with the small I4. This would the the economy car.

And some sort of SUV just to boost sales a bit. Would come with the V6, 305, or hybrid with the V6. Would come with a pure off road option (a redemption to the Aztec name?), but most of them would the soccer mom car.
