Same gadgets and safety as my current 500 but with a turbo bolted on for a bit more fun :D Plus the brakes are good enough to rip your organs out, the interior is ace, and I love the styling with a passion.

I wish they sold those here.

Doh! Knew I shoulda read the first post again.

In that case:

Based on what I do on a day to day bases and considering where I live, I think a Land Rover LR2 would suit me just fine. While I enjoy having my MINI I don't think it will be practical once I start a family. It's a great weekend car and commuter but when I want to haul anything more then some light grocery shopping things get a bit tight. I also sort of miss having an SUV, although granted the Blazer wasn't exactly the best vehicle in the world.

I like the LR2 for several reasons. For one I've always had a soft spot for Land Rovers and always wanted one. The LR2 is also not as big and brash as the LR3 and Range Rover so I won't look quite so daft driving it around the city. It would also work in the city decently well since it's not the size of a house and smaller than most SUV's on America's roads. The 4WD would be nice in northern Michigan or when we get random snow storms and the city is unable to plough the roads because they are broke. There would be enough room to transport people and their belongings.

I'm pretty sure I would want it in green, with a black and satin interior. I'd also want it fully loaded as there are only a couple of different packages to choose from.

The only problem with it would be the poor fuel economy, but it would make up for the fact it can anywhere I would be willing to take it, could carry a decent payload, and could pull a good sized trailer.

Nice choice. I quite like the Freelander, for all the reasons you've mentioned. It offers most of what the Discovery or Range Rover/ RR Sport do unless you really need a V8 or seven seats. And personally I prefer the looks to the other LR products.

As for poor fuel economy, it's a pity you guys don't have access to the TD4 - it'd be much more up your street.

actually, I'm hunting for a new daily driver now. unfortunately, I can't find anything for less than 5000 bucks that isn't 20 years old and/or beat to death. can't use a car, either, in case I get yanked back to work (it's kinda hard to slog down foot deep ruts with something 2 inches off the ground.)
but MY wishfull thinking?

black, please.

Americans are afraid of diesels for some reason and for the life of me I will never know why. If they offer the LR2 (I see now it's called the Freelander in the UK) in a diesel configuration I would highly consider actually buying one. According to the Land Rover UK website the LR2 with the TD4 in it gets 42mpg in a mixed driving environment. After doing a bit of calculating I'm guessing that's about 35mpg in the US for the manual, the auto would get around 30. That's not bad and I would be happy with that. And I would probably get even better mileage since I find myself on the highway quite a bit.

*sigh* Maybe one day I will be able to own one.

I would ideally have the Cayman I posted earlier... but this kinda stole the show for me:

If it looks anything like this... and has a stonking V8 under the hood... nuff said.

-> I have another one in mind. Too bad we don't have it here in the US or in the Philippines:

Honda Stream RSZ {5M/T} mpv '09

^ Another good alternative to my S2K (for a DD). Smooth, multi-passenger, simple, easy to park, easy to haul, and equally fun. :)
Looks like a competitor to the Mazda 5 and stuff. Why the hell is it not sold here? It looks awesome.

Anyways, I've been thinking about a useable daily for a long time. My Choice?

A Suzuki SX4 Hatchback. All-wheel drive, 5-speed manual, plenty of cargo space, good fuel mileage, and there's actually quite a good selection of high-end performance parts available. Sweet.

^ American Honda are the most ignorant people thats why, instead of releasing the impressive Stream; they rather send in these! :yuck:

^ I was thinking about the SX4 too, but I have to drive it to solidify my judgement. ;)

I don't know...if they lifted it a bit and gave it some better tires, it would be a cool competitor for the Subaru Outback, Audi Allroad Quattro, and the Volvo XC70.

Re: Honda Stream, I think american Honda knows better. Wagons have a rep, minivans picked upa rep, and SUV's are now on the blacklist. it has to look like a crossover to sell...mabey.

Joey D: as I have repeatedly stated. americans equate Deisels with Tractor-Trailers, noise, smoke, rednecks, Tobacco, and hard working men that weigh 300 lbs and constantly have a bad case of "man cleavage". despite plenty of proof otherwise, like 50MPG German cars that'll blow your doors off.

Price no object?

Fast, looks good, sounds good, Australian, super practical, what more could I want?

Or modify a VE SV6.

Time to bring it back, because opinions change.

This is my dream daily:

EXCELLENT.

Yummy. I saw yet another one yesterday, and despite the completely outrageous prices, the car makes a ton of sense. Fast as hell, no one knows about it, doesn't look bad either. I'll admit its making a run against the Camaro. Too bad they only did a single year run.

Volkswagen won't ship them over likely because they would cost waaay too much to import, and their overall profit on the car would negligible, not to mention its essentially a re-dressed GTI with no significant performance advantages. I think that in their heart of hearts, VW would love to do the fan service and bring the car over, but the way the economy has shaped up, it just isn't gonna happen.

The Scirocco would be a very tempting daily driver indeed for me, though I think in the end I'd still go with the Mazda MX-5 RC on a reasonable budget and a Mazda 2 1.5 Sport on a lower budget. There's still no realistic new car I'd rather have than these two.

I'd still take an eiriksmil edition VI over a Scirocco:

Really torn on it.. I have the funds, I want it but I enjoy the current status of my daily, filling some oil and hoping for the best.
