What would it be?
What cars would it use?
What kinds of tracks will it use?
And What regulations will they have?
Put a little description somewhere describing what it would be like.
For me, there should be sort of like a "Track and Field" type thing for LMPs.
Sounds strange, yes? But here's what I mean described in Lamen's terms:
You take a HUGE oval like Test Course or Route X, and have sections marked at 400 meters and 1000 meters.
The 400 and 1000 meter marks would be used for two drag racing "events".
The 400 meter would be like the 100 meter dash. The cars would be set in 7 lanes seperated by steel railing on the main straightaway of the oval. The flag will drop and the cars will have to accelerate very quickly to finish the 400 meters first. The 1000 meter works the same way only over a longer distance.
Now comes your Long distance "events": The one and 5 laps. The race begins with participating cars placed in what would be the lanes only instead of steel railing, there are only white lines. The flag will drop and the cars must pursue 1 or 5 laps of the course while everyone is fighting for position by slipstreaming.
The main seperation between the two events is the strategy and tunings used in the events. For the one lap, the transmission would be set to run at a high RPM at a high speed to keep it moving fast for an entire 4 mile loop. Now the 5 lapper on the other hand, you would want to keep your gear ratios spread out to maintain high speeds, but at lower RPMs. This will reduce engine wear and fuel consumption over the 5 laps.
THE REGULATIONS:
-The car must have raced in at least 2 races in the Le Mans series.
-The car must be a Le Mans Type Model. However, minor aerodynamic adjustments are allowed.
-The cars must have 5-7 gears, sorry Chapparal
-The cars must use every gear in the box except for reverse and neutral on the drag races.
-If you run out of fuel, you are out.
