What would it be?

What cars would it use?

What kinds of tracks will it use?

And What regulations will they have?

Put a little description somewhere describing what it would be like.

For me, there should be sort of like a "Track and Field" type thing for LMPs.

Sounds strange, yes? But here's what I mean described in Lamen's terms:

You take a HUGE oval like Test Course or Route X, and have sections marked at 400 meters and 1000 meters.

The 400 and 1000 meter marks would be used for two drag racing "events".

The 400 meter would be like the 100 meter dash. The cars would be set in 7 lanes seperated by steel railing on the main straightaway of the oval. The flag will drop and the cars will have to accelerate very quickly to finish the 400 meters first. The 1000 meter works the same way only over a longer distance.

Now comes your Long distance "events": The one and 5 laps. The race begins with participating cars placed in what would be the lanes only instead of steel railing, there are only white lines. The flag will drop and the cars must pursue 1 or 5 laps of the course while everyone is fighting for position by slipstreaming.

The main seperation between the two events is the strategy and tunings used in the events. For the one lap, the transmission would be set to run at a high RPM at a high speed to keep it moving fast for an entire 4 mile loop. Now the 5 lapper on the other hand, you would want to keep your gear ratios spread out to maintain high speeds, but at lower RPMs. This will reduce engine wear and fuel consumption over the 5 laps.

THE REGULATIONS:

-The car must have raced in at least 2 races in the Le Mans series.
-The car must be a Le Mans Type Model. However, minor aerodynamic adjustments are allowed.
-The cars must have 5-7 gears, sorry Chapparal
-The cars must use every gear in the box except for reverse and neutral on the drag races.
-If you run out of fuel, you are out.

So what do you think? Post your motorsport ideas here

Where do you draw the line at "Minor" adjustments?

And so you proposed a Drag racing league, for LMP cars, based on 2 Fantasy tracks...

I cant see this taking off. I think we have all of the motorsport we need.

It would take me a while to think of a new racing league.

But for now I would like to see current racing leagues step out of their safety zones. I want to see Formula 1 on an oval. I want to see NASCAR on a legendary European road course.

Nascar on the F1 Monza course would be good. Who dares to brake late into the first corner?!

Daytona Road would be a good NASCAR track. In fact there are lots of road circuits in the US that would be great for NASCAR.

I'd like a series that combines the best of 1950s F1 with modern safety features (like seatbelts, rollbars, etc.) Carbon fibre bodywork and chassis built around the classic, front engined, rear wheel drive layout. Open wheels of course, with 2 litres maximum displacement, and no limit on the number of cylinders. Tires would be no larger than on '50s F1 cars, and of course, no aerodynamic aids. No electronic aids either. Just a pure and simple form of motorsport inspired by a bygone era. 👍 The series would race on classic tracks such as Monza (with the first chicane removed), Silverstone, Willow Springs, the Nordschleife, Monaco, and the like. :D

Bring NASCAR back to its beginings. Each car maker involved would have to build a V8 RWD and sell it to the public. Cap the displacement, I say at 5.7 liters, but let the companies use what mechanical tech they want to. If Chevy wants to stay push rod with a carb, but Ford wants DOHC EFI why stop them? No major modifications can be done to the suspension. By that I mean you can't take a live axle car and swap in a IRS system. You can make the factory set up race ready (as safty teams and drivers see fit). The cars must have the same body shape that their road versions have. You could do all light weight panels, but they must look stock. No launch control, or any form of traction control. Maybe even get rid of ABS. Brakes must be steel, not carbon, but the car maker can decide what size the brakes are to be. There must be some form of road going version of the car, with a minimum of one 50 limited edition production run. These cars must have any aero the race cat has, along with a street able suspension, interior, engine, and trans. The car makers have one moment to let officals know the specs of the cars. These specs are bot subject to cahnge unless thought or proven to be unsafe.

This might take the race out of the drivers hands, but if the big 3 and Toyota care about the sport they will keep the cars close by constantly stepping up their games. So one cat might have the power, but lack handling, or be a bit heavy beside the others. Along with axing some ovals for more road races (and some shorter races) I think NASCAR would be able to keep tjr fan base it has, while gain fans of other motorsports.

Something to bring back the spectacle in rallying, cap the engines at 2.0L but can have any power adder (ie Turbocharger Supercharger) no combonation of the two, with a weight break for those who want to go Naturally Aspirated or a bigger engine, only RWD allowed. The engines are unlimited in modifications done but the turbo cars will have a restrictor and so will the supercharged cars, but less of a restriction. The events will be held longer not just 3 days. Possibly over the stages used in the 80's. Almost like the old group B rules but with a larger aspect of safety.

I've two...or three in mind actually.

The first:
It would involve expensive special cars.

The cars:
-Ferrari FXX/599XX
-Pagani Zonda R
-Some other manufacture that wanted to do the cars like that.

It would be 6 race.

-Silverstone
-Monza
-Paul Richard
-Sepang
-Fuji/Suzuka
-Road America

The regulation:

-1 hours race. 2 races. Too avoid costly damage and engine rebuild.
-No practice session. Just straight to 1 hour qualifying.
-Top 5 will get weight penalty for the next race.
-At least one mandatory pit stop and 7 sets of tyre for the race and 3 sets of tyre for qualifying.
-No driving aids.
-Heavy rain will suspend the race.

---

For the second.

Involve time-trial-like mod cars. But this is not a time attack. It's a race. The series only happen once in two year.

The cars:
-Any just no supercars. Any privater can enter. Grid will be 10 at the very least and 15 at max.

The circuit:

8 technical circuit.

The reg:

-Horsepower are unlimited.
-No restriction on aero. No fan cars.
-No aids.
-Tyre sets are decide by the team itself before the race weekend.
-2 hours race.

Yeah, it sounds crazy but i just love it if it could happen. :p
---

And the last Deltawing series at 10 circuit at the least and special event race between the top 10 DTM team v.s top 10 Super GT500 team.

The special event race would be 2 hours mark(again.) and the circuit would be Hockenheim and Fuji. Only two race in a year...a bit more like Le Mans event.

The Deltawing idea reminds me of an idea one of the Deltawing guys came up with, I can't find a link of it now but the basics were of a championship with only one regulation relating to maximum fuel consumption (plus safety rules of course) then if people are making cars too quick the max fuel consumption gets turned down!

The deltawing idea always reminds me of the little ice-breaker project I did in my first week of university:

They quite clearly copied my idea.

As for my own race series, I would have open regulations on everything except engine, which would be a standardised small engine (<1 litre, naturally aspirated). Apart from a maximum track and wheelbase, and restricting bodywork beyond the wheels, everything else would be free reign, but with budgetary constraints and a minimum weight of ~350-400kg.

The series would be cheap enough to attract large numbers of competitors, whilst the restrictions would be open enough to encourage a range of different designs. The series would run on a range of circuits and changes of car spec inbetween will be restricted, which means you can't just turn up with a kart and expect to be faster on every circuit.
