I'm LV35 - How to get LV40 alone?

My experience was one i cannot forget. After my 16th hour on the 3rd day- I hit the "Restart" option! I fell on my chair literally and my son (big fan) cried even. I was so mad of myself that i wrote Polyphony to make changes on this - 1. Make a "Save" option, 2. Remove or move the "Restart" option to the right most. I was so mad that i have to restart (to not think of what happened) that i managed to finish it in 3 days!

Couldn't agree more. They need an in race save function and on the restart button something like a "Are you sure you want to restart this race?"
 
I'm amazed at those people who seem to be under the impression that if you don't eat or sleep for 24 hours, then you'll die. About the only people in such a position I could think of would be those who have serious illnesses or conditions which require specific amounts of food or sleep - diabetics, for example.

Those media-hyped stories of people dying while playing games are almost always either due to serious health issues unrelated to the game, or due to the person playing for a week+ non-stop. 24 hours without food, water or sleep wouldn't be good for you, but it's not going to cause any long-term harm - and it assumes that it's not possible to pause the game.

On a similar note, if your PS3 can't handle being on for days at a time without dying, then it's because you don't take proper care of your electrical goods, and let it fill up with dust/store it in a hot area where it can't ventilate properly.

NOTE: This isn't to say I think that being able to save and turn off mid-endurance isn't a feature they should add! Such a feature would be excellent, and a very good move by PD. Especially if combined with an 'Are you sure?' prompt for restarting races.
 
Speaking as a long term fan of GT (all the way back to the first one - I even still have my copies of GT2 - 4) I can honestly say that these A-Spec 24 hr races are the stupidest events PD have ever included, bar none. I would love to hear from whichever genius thought it was a good idea - probably the same one who designed the points levelling system to increase exponentially as you get higher. The top of the mountain recedes the higher you climb....

In Japan they have a breed of gamer/techno freak they call "Otaku" - these amazing creatures apparently live their entire lives electronically and rarely, if ever, go out or do anything else. Maybe GT5 was designed to suit them and that kind of lifestyle choice since it quite obviously does not suit someone with a job and a family... or any respect for their £250~ worth of gaming device. (How many PS3s have died as sacrifices on the altar of Kazanori?)

Hand on heart, I am never doing the A-spec 24hr races. Never. I am also very unlikely to do the B-Spec ones since I cannot justify leaving it switched on playing away to itself. I dare anyone to say its fun to watch Bob drive round and round and round.....

Christ, I've been to the actual Le Mans and that didn't even live up to expectation although I dare say that's more fun for the drivers (who only do 4 hour stints with 3 drivers taking turns).

There's alot of apparently elitist nonsense flying around about people "whinging" - it isn't whinging, its reality kicking in, plain and simple. PD have lost their tenuous grip on reality and GT5 is the culmination of a 6 year fantasy to finally murder the enthusiasm of what has been a very loyal fan base.

In conclusion, my advice would be to not bother with the 24 hr races, not bother about level 40, save and spend the money you would waste on a 2nd PS3 (when your 1st one dies) on a PC upgrade to play rFactor 2 when it comes out. People make extra cars and tracks for rFactor themselves, too - for free. And you get to give feedback about the driving experience to actual people who actually listen to you.

Never thought I'd be attacking PD or GT but this time they've gone too far. Waaay too far.
 
To be fair, there is nothing wrong in the idea of 24h races. There just has to be some basic options for players if those kind of races are included in the game.

I'm guessing to keep doing online races and seasonal events; by the time GT6 comes out I'll get level 40. My B-Spec guys will be me to it I suppose.

That sounds somewhat harsh.
I've been to the event a few times and always found it a hoot - although mainly for the staggering around campsites at strange hours, trying to find your tent in a drunken haze. (Hugely dissappointed the Esperante sounds nowhere near as epic as it does in real life).

I fully agree on the need for some sort of save option though.
My housing estate seems to be undergoing a series of powercuts at random times about once a week at present. I can't even risk trying to do an endurance race at the moment, so I'm kind of stuffed.

With a save option, at least I could perhaps save it every hour for when the inevitable happens.
 
I don't think 24 hr is waste of time... in fact, its amazing! We can do something that probably neither 1% of us will have the chance to do in real life.

But I wish you could save to return next day, or at least share with your spec-B drivers, so you can rest while the race is going, just like real life.

Exactly - another feature that GT4 had that they didn't include this time round. Progress generally means improving something, not scrapping stuff that works already. My argument is not against the 24 hr races per se, but against the presumption that we've all got 24 hrs to spend doing it without the need to leave your PS3 switched on for a week while you fit bits in around your life. It should be that way, not life fitting in around your race.

I'm a little surprised that they didn't add some kind of save. I remember when I played MGS4 they warn you not to play to long and to take breaks. That's because they don't want to get sued. I think PD leaves itself vulnerable to a lawsuit if some kid dies while doing a 24 hour race and the cause is exhaustion.

I'm sure this couldn't happen to a perfectly healthy child but maybe to one with some other health problems.

Dying of exhaustion takes around 11 days. I doubt you'd even be able to stay awake for 32-36 hours straight yourself. Try it. And I doubt a "kid" would be able to play a video game for more than 8-10 hours without one of the parents telling him to do something else or "force" him to take a break, if not, then it's just awful.

I hit level 35 today got my X1 and sent my bob's on a indefinite vacation.
I have no intention of risking my PS3 by leaving it on for a couple of weeks to complete 1 race. I have to work so I could not play more than a hour or two a day.
Like others have said, I would do it if a save option was added. As far as grinding to get the level 40 race goes. I doubt I would ever get there. I would not do the first one more than once. Hopefully PD reads these threads and does something about it in any future releases. I have all the GT games to date and this will be my last if they don't address some of these perfectly valid complaints.

Devs totaly took the fun out of it, retards working on team I swear.

The A-Spec grind 35-40 is stupid - it should be finish one race, the next one unlocks...

'Rubber band' the A-Spec from 35-40 to get you through this bit of brilliant game design..

Do the 24s with the X2010 in 2x 8.5hour stints then park it and it's not so bad - although I found that car WAY too fast on the 'Ring.

I would do the full 24 in an equivalent car to the AI if I could share the driving duties with the Bobs like I did in GT4 and enjoy the race more!!

It's worth doing the 24s just for the day/night cycle, and racing at night in the rain!!

Harden up everyone & get your race face on !!

Why do people spend so much time doing things they don't like in a video game only to say 'I've reached level 40'? There is nothing else attached to it, as all the cars you win can be bought or traded (and there is no car that will take 24 hours to get).
I am really wondering this, so if anyone could give me an answer that would be much appreciated :)

Doing a 24 hour race in an X2010 so you only have to drive for 16 hours (!?) is not something I think anyone would enjoy, but I might be wrong. I get driving a 24 hour race in a competitive car, managing your pitstops etc. (although even then I wouldn't do it without saves).

Maybe I'm just crazy or too old for this, but this completionism has gone strange...

Think about it for a moment. Because the payout is low and the prize cars lame there's really no need for anyone to do this event who doesn't want to. Even better that they're the last races in the A-Spec progression. Frankly I'm glad the payout is low because I won't feel tempted to muscle through this race in an X2010 just to collect. And for whatever it's worth I plan on doing the 24h LeMans race solo this summer in a single sitting with no pause. Not to win, just to race. I might even enter with a Mark IV just for the fun of it.
 
All i am doing is the 9 hour race when im at work, then when i get in i do the suzuka 1000. That still leaves a few hours to actually play other games, dvds etc. Should be finished this weekend

Im sure they would file a suit, but you would have to be a god of litigation to actually win that.

What I am curious about is if someone actually did die playing WoW... that sounds unlikely. I mean you would have to be a complete moron to actually let yourself die of dehydration... it takes 30 seconds to go get a drink of water.

I'm doing the new Seasonal Events waiting for the new patch. With or without our demands (Save or Share with Bob), I will be doing the Le Mans in a week.

My highest hope is the changing of experience. Imo, winning the Le Mans should grant you the level to running Nurburgring. They might even reduce the Nur to level 38; and if you win the Nur, you get the level 40 - the end of the game - the Jedi Master of racing!
 
I don't think that the 24 hour races and getting from level 35 to 40 is the same discussion.

The 35-40 is STUPID not because the idea is stupid but because the way of getting to 40 is WAY to limited.
I believe you shouldn't have to come back to the same race more than a couple of times.
People wanna experience new things, as long as this happens getting a reward is nice, but when you have to do the SAME thing OVER AND OVER again it gets tedious.

The 24 hour races is another matter.
I think "forcing" (as of people don't wanna let the PS3 stay on) 24 hour race is ok.
It shouldn't be mandatory but at the same time I love the idea which I believe is that you are supposed to be more than 1 to do it.
I always though that Co-op material in games was a good thing.
Maybe add the option to play 24 hour race Co-op online where you could change between drivers as often you wanted (of course requiring a pit stop).
Wouldn't this be awesome?
Play with people from all over the world getting together with people at different time zones maybe?

I'm currently doing 24hrs at Le Mans, 19hrs into it using the X1, best lap so far is 2:15.8xx. I started Sunday morning (approx 10am) and will probably finish before I go to work tomorrow at 2pm or when I get home at 12:30am. Actual driving time will be between 15 and 15.5hrs. I'll probably grind to get to lvl40 since I won't do 24hr race again till Nurburgring 24hr. A-spec lvl36 and B-spec lvl40.

Update: finished 24hr Le Mans today at 1:30pm...Actual driving time was 15hr and 46min. Magic lap number was 381 and I did 382 to be safe. Fastest Lap came at lap 357 and was 2.15.007 min.

2 years ago some little kid (like 10) year old's parents left a ladder out in their yard. He climbed up while the parents were inside, contacted some power lines, and his shirt caught on fire. He had 2nd degree burns on most of his body, the parents sued the tshirt company and won $3 million. Dying of exhaustion while playing GT5 isnt very likely but if it did happen that would be an easy win on gross negligence.

It's pretty easy. I played counterstrike source 72 hours straight over a long weekend once. After about 24 hours your body just says **** it and stops trying to make you sleep.

Hi guys!

I'm currently at level 35, and the only races left to be done are the 24 hours (Le Mans and Nurburgring).

But how can I do it by myself? No way I can drive like 8 hours pause it, return next day, drive another 8 hours, and then more 8 hours... My head, eyes and body will collapse. If that is the only way, I should drive 4 hours x 6 days, because 8 hours is really demanding.

How did you guys did it? Suggestions?

I'm at level 29 in A-spec, doing the shorter enduros but no way am I doing the 9 hour let alone 24 hour events by myself, at least until PD comes up with something sensible.

It's another stuff-up on PD's part. You can't save the game (only leave it to pause and hope there isn't a power failure in the meantime), and unlike GT4 you can't use B-spec drivers as co-drivers, which you'd think would be the way to do it.

The current situation is ridiculous. A "driving simulator"? Show me a nine-hour race let alone a 24-hour race anywhere in the world that relies on a single driver. It's out of the question on safety grounds alone!

But you didn't mention the most stupid part of the whole thing - to get to A-spec level 40 you have to do Le Mans around 5 times!!!!

WTF were they thinking?????
