to figure out a good set up for my wheel and pedals for GT5.

Tried using a wee solid wood table, but it's not heavy enough to withstand the force feedback.

Any ideas?

If you have the $$ there are lots of awesome racing frames out there, just find the one you want.

If you're like me and just buying the G27 (or your wheel of choice) broke you, try looking at cheap computer desks, I use an old PC cart, and with some modifications (replacing the wheels with rubber feet, and angling the printer shelf for use as my pedal tray, removing the keyboard drawer, and a rubber floor mat underneath the pedals) it works. It's not awesome as a dedicated racing rig, but it's what I had to work with!

If you don't have the money or space for a cockpit, consider getting a wheel stand. There are a couple of good options available in the ~$100-$150 neighborhood.

If there is a way to make your own weight to stabilize the stand, it's always the best solution.

Have you tried making something out of wood to sit on your lap. It gets rid of the need for a table and stops the wheel sliding.

Build something like this. Its really easy, cheap, and works very well.

Not going to spend much. Don't think it's worth forking out more. But good idea with the PC table, that might do the trick thanks.

Yeah I've had a look and just think it's too expensive for the stand. Maybe if more good racing games come out I'll spend some money on a stand but not just for one game.

Yeah I tried to brace my legs on the legs of the table but it just feels unnatural and I can't concentrate, especially as this is my forst time using a wheel.

Don't fancy that at all, need mega stability.

I'm rubbish at building things, maybe my dad could do it, give him something to do!

The point I was trying to make is you need to use the force generated by you sitting in your seat for your advantage.. --> some part of the rig needs to be under the seat of yours. (or something with similar idea) 👍

Good luck!

Quoting a post that I made before about my wheelstand. The thing I have done to it is cut and screw a rubber mat to the bottom of the base(I used a welcome mat. Look for something like this). I gave the stand a lot of thrashing and has not even moved back on me yet.

Simple design and you can get pretty much get all of the parts for $30.
