GTP_Im_Sorry
I finally got GT5P last night. After completing the C events I decided I was warmed up enough to try an online race. I wanted to make sure I raced clean, staying on the line so others trying to pass wouldn't think I was blocking, and giving the line to those that were ahead of me. I did not want to be blacklisted.

That first race was kind of a shock. There were cars swerving all over the place. I decided to brake a little early to avoid the carnage in front and got slammed from behind... Ok, that's racing, but would this person now claim I was brake testing? Next corner (High Speed ring) I get squeezed into the rail and as I come back onto the track I make contact with someone trying to pass. "Opps, Sorry!" Then at the last corner someone cuts right in front of me, we make contact and they are now swerving back and forth behind me trying to regain control. "Sorry about that... "

So in the first lap of my first online race I had contact with other racers 3 times! I raced a few more times and it was more of the same. It makes the old GT4 AI's "I'm staying on the racing line not matter what" seem nice in its predictability.

So if you are someone that I had contact with last night:

I'm Sorry!

Online racing is horrible at the amateur level. Every race I was in was nothing but a street fight but instead of using fists people used cars.

My best advice is to beat A class and move up to the expert 700pp races. Idiots exist at that level but its nowhere near the carnage at the bottom

have to disagree about the 700 races being cleaner, I'm starting to get really frustrated by certain things about "professional" races... seems like ppl in front of me will swerve all over the road, bounce of the guard rails and race like a total jerk (pushing others off the course with hard side swipes, punting, ect.).. despite all this erratic behavior their cars don't loose much time in the overall lap.

My guess is they are using a lot of driving aids to keep themselves from spinning out. I'm using as few as possible and the slightest mistake seems to have a pretty drastic affect on my racing... these guys are playing some sort of demo derby in front of me and I cant even seem to catch up. Guess I can turn some of the aids on to compensate, tho I'd rather not. I've also noticed a lot of these types will use a non-tuned car, and I'm not really understanding how a stock vehicle could have any chance against a tuned race car... especially in the turns.

Seems to me these "professional" races should limit of force all aids off... especially "active steering"... gimme a break... I wouldn't mind it if it was limited to "tuned" race cars only... have a seperate class of events for stock vehicles.

(sorry for the negative attitude, last night's "racing" put a bad taste in my mouth)

@PETERJFORD- glad you finally made it! Enjoy, old man! Yes, beat C,B&A to unlock Expert, much better paydays, etiquette, physics. I shall keep an eye out for you.

Destruction Derby on the streets:D

I've actually had a few very civilized races now at the professional level. But, I've also had a lot more problems with the host quitting. At least at the beginner levels you could usually finish a race.

Racing against erratic drivers makes you a better driver in the end I think. You have to anticipate, analyze, and react all with split second decisions. I love to evade and outsmart them then blow them off the track!!:sly:👍

I was wondering, how do you know if you are the host? I guess if its obvious I haven't been host yet.

I think the 700pp races are ok, sure it is a little bashing and some total jerks but almost every race i find a nice and clean driver to race for half a lap or so... and that makes it totally worth it!

My latest example of this was on Fuji, last 2 corners. Me in an R34 GT-R, behind me an Amuse S2000 Turbo. He came up behind me right before the last hairpin on the last lap, I knew that if I kept my pedal to the metal he will slipstream past me. So i slowed down, so did he. We got through the last bend extremely slowly, got out on the long straight in about 100 km/h (weird moment of racing). After a few seconds he didn't want to play my game anymore and floored it. I heard his engine rev up so i did the same and got his slipstream about 30 meters behind. At first he got away a bit but i started to catch up slowly. The finish line came closer and closer and it started to look bad. I went out on the side going just a little faster than he did and we were side by side past the flag. I didn't know who was first. There was a few seconds wait before the scorecard showed up... I lost by a blink of an eye.

I was wondering, how do you know if you are the host? I guess if its obvious I haven't been host yet.

i don't think you can see that anywhere...

When the race is being created (not the starting grid but the actual creation of the race) there is a list of names. The first name on the list is the host,so if you're the first name don't quit the race till it's over

first in starting grid is hosting. doesn't mean he's in pole though. host also get's the line 'creating race' instead of 'joining race' at the end of the matching screen.

I have extreme difficulty cleanly passing erratic drivers. Steady drivers I can track, set up, and pass. I've been stuck behind someone much slower, only because they are using the entire track, all the time. I don't think they are using the rearview mirror at all-If I'm on your bumper for a whole lap, and you are using the whole track, isn't it obvious that I'm faster?

If I get a good run off the corner, and they are off the racing line ahead, when I get alongside they mover over and push me in the grass.
If they make a slow exit in the racing line, I'll try and go around outside, invariably they drift wide, and stick me in the grass.
If I try to outbrake down the inside, even with half the car ahead of them they turn in to me at the apex, and push me in the grass.

It's still a blast!

Tough at times to pass them that's for sure. Makes you really appreciate when you get in a race with some good clean drivers, not many clean racers out there atm.:nervous:

Redline, clean drivers are heading on, as am I withing about 1/2 hr. Later seems to be better, last night some of you EU folks were up really late.:sly:

There's carnage everywhere. I had quite a battle with a guy by the name of Skyline_77, he was good enough to get upto 1st or 2nd but even then he was blocking, and trying to make me crash. Most of the damage is done in the last few spots, but usually if you can make it up into the top 4 racers you can most of the time have a good race.

I've had a few great races with Earth, one of my favourite people to race with online. 👍

Look out for me on Fuji in my red GT-R. :trouble:

Thanks for the heads up Super.but won't be on till later tonight. Hope to catch some GTP'ers put there. Will be bouncing around the expert 700 pp races.

You've pretty much summed up my thoughts 👍

I just don't understand what goes through peoples' minds sometimes...earlier this evening I was racing on Daytona Roadcourse (700pp) and was doing quite well (for once!). I managed to work my way up from 6th to 3rd when on the last corner I got side swiped by the guy in 2nd just as I was about to overtake, resulting in me spinning out (badly). Was he that desperate for the extra 1000cr or so for coming in 2nd rather than 3rd?

I think people just don't want to get passed period so they drive like idiots. Also I think alot out there are under the assumption that there are online race stats that are kept. They don't know at the moment it is only TT that track stats.

Tip of the day : change your PSN username to "I'm sorry", that'll free you from the stress of being blacklisted

These things cannot be avoided and thats part of racing! When it comes to the utter idiots though...thats part of ONLINE RACING. Not much to do but stick together, that is why I am hooking up with GTP and register myself now.

Race with those who actually want a race! Cheers!

At these wild online times I've found following quite amusing:
Just let those morons overtake you (I mean if you have already lost your changes to the podium). Then start the pressure, but don't crash, don't even touch them. Overtake so, that they have no possibility to crush you again. Just wait for the right moment. (This could be quite educational, for the opponent :D )
I call this style:
"The Way of the Intercepting Overtake"
