"Shake violently" is NOT correct.

What happens when you hit a wall, visible or not (as in the rally courses), is the camera bounces very fast left and right a couple of times with a subtle blur effect. It's not distracting at all - in fact, I think it's a great touch.

With that said, after playing it a few times, I have yet to see the 10 second penalty from GT4P appear.

There you go, someone with first hand knowledge! Thanks jizzmirk.

All those who don't like it are obviously 'wall huggers' as people who raced correctly would have nothing to complain about due to the fact that they don't hit walls very often (not going to say 'at all' because everyone does it).

Great idea PD! *two thumbs up*

I think it sounds great too. I can't wait to try it.

PD said they were still working on it, but it will be in the game. They are trying to figure out when the penalty should be issued. Bumping happens in real life racing, and usually no penelties are issued. But, with blatant bumping, or crashing, the penalty will be issued, but again the severity of the penalty comes into the play of things. PD is thinking about using a penalty system that reduces your speed duration depending on the track position, and the track time, of the offending vehicle.

I LOVE that baseball bat idea. I would much rather the game came with it's very own monkey, just like the thing Cartman used to learn to spell in South Park, except instead of drums, he has a baseball bat.

Next I want electrodes connected to my balls for when I hit a wall or crash into another car. That'll teach some n00bs in GT5.

Hmmm. I wonder how they are going to do the penalty system? With the online racing, they definately need one but there are so many issues to address. My main concern is that it doesn't take a big hit to completely mess up someone's race. In real life, the most gentle nudge of a fishtail on the exit of a corner is almost always the preferred method for an angry boy band member in british gt car.

True, I could just disconect the rumble feature and instead feed wires out to my balls. However, that means that running over ripple strips might bring on an orgasm and ruin my lap.

You know perhaps it's for the best people like us get locked inside playing games instead of partaking in society, I get the feeling we'd hold back the progress of humanity pretty substantially. That said, more terrorists need to get into Splinter Cell.

the wires that go to the motors in your controller (for rumble) dont pump enough power. need some good AC power;)

All I can say about this is, ouch. So I can imagine wiping out on Citta di Aria and get my teeth rattled. At first, I thought this thread was about "the impact Gran Turismo 4 will have on the automotive market," but after seeing this, I just know that I'd better be careful when turning and keep crashes to a minimum. You know, this is assuming that I haven't tuned my car with too much power and too little handling. GT4 will get pretty ugly if you wipe out in the turns.

Yeah, the title was a bit misleading and we've managed to come a long way since then to make it even more far removed from your concept.

I actually won't mind the impact effect because I won't be crashing that severely as to warrant it, if it punishes people into driving properly, excellent.

By the way, I wouldn't want GT4 to be a sexy racing game. If I wanted a sexy GT, I'd want one with those super-hot JGTC Race Queens with voice overs, cut scenes, and stuff. But that rumble thing about your you-know-whats, you may have had just a little too much Guiness Draft... :)

And I quote (true about GT4): "Brilliant!" -from Guiness Draft commercials

What is it then? Just a bit of motion blur when you crash into something, kinda like that mission in GTA Vice City where you drive Phil to hospital drunk.

They need something in there to stop drivers from continuing to take advantage of the lack of damage in the game. I highly doubt 180mph collisions (hell, even scrapes!) with a barrier end with the car still running.

And JohnBM01, just to avoid you looking a plonker again, it's Guinness Draught ;)
