Quick question (everything I found was from 2003/4, so I don't really trust it):
Can I play imported - downloaded games (i.e. demos) from other countries on my EU PSP(1000)?
And what's the best way of getting a newer FW version as mine is pretty old already or should I go for cfw right away?

Only if you have CFW IIRC.
If you want the latest firmware go to the very top of the settings part of the XMB if you have wifi. Or you could find it on the pc then put it on your PSP that way.

It's not easy, that's all I can tell so far. I read you can only put cfw if you have under 5.03 without buying new stuff, which i have ( 3.72), but then I don't get it how to do it and I only want to play demos / games from other regions, so I don't think i need cfw, just need to know if newest Sony FW will let me play those.. (aka region lock on games or not?)

I downloaded themes from Asian PSN and ... they don't work, but I guess those from EU (haven't found any :p) wouldn't work either as my fw is old...

Someone know if I just have to install new fw or do I really need to go the cfw route?

To get multi region compatibility you need to go for CFW.
To get CFW you need to get a Pandora Battery to put the PSP into service mode and then you go from there.
I've done it many times, it's easy, and there are guides on the net. :)

My psp-1000(EU) could handle japanese demo's on OFW. I don't know about UMD's though, but I would recommend to get CFW.. It comes in real handy sometimes.

Yeah ok I see what you say. However, if I knew for sure it let me play demos, downloaded games on OF, I wouldn't do it just yet.

So I read movies are region locked and not games... ( everything I find about this is sooo 2004 lol)

Haha, I can't even install the 6.2 FW... my PSP looks completely different than in their manuals, UI - wise.
There's an option: System update, I don't have it, I have network update, that's almost the same right, however if I press there to proceed it says "internal error 0000001" .
(just for reference my PSP doesn't have the psn network icon either. Actually first time I saw this today on Sony's site)

ANY ideas if I can put the update manually on my PSP, i.e. folder names, location, etc. as I have downloaded it on my PC already?
I'm fairly sure I did it this way back when I bought it.

That's what I don't like about this (de)generation, you buy something, but you can't play/ use it because of some weird error or mandatory update! Even if I bought something from the store I couldn't play it, 'cause AFAIK there are no updates included in non - disc based games... *grumble*.

Anyway... I'm not mad or something and if there's a resolution to get FW manually (without inet) on my PSP, I'd be happy to hear it.

My EU PSP1000 plays games from everywhere on OFW.... I'm not sure what problem you are experiencing though... Strange... Im sure it plays games from other countries though... shouldnt be a problem once you get it updated... May I ask where youre located??? Because if youre not in Europe for example and you try to update it with a North American update... it wont work... Ran into this while looking for an answer..

This update is for PSP® systems purchased in North America. DO NOT update your PSP® system through this website if you purchased your system outside North America. There is no guarantee of proper operation with models sold outside North America

Ah alright so it's confirmed I can play foreign games. 👍

Now if it only let me update ... I'm in EU and I downloaded it from EU servers, but I cannot transfer it to my PSP. I don't have wifi, maybe that's the problem?
I just don't understand why it let me download the update on my PC, but with no further instruction how to get it on PSP other than "select system update under settings" which I don't have. :/

If youve downloaded via the PC you need to copy that onto the Memory stick of the PSP... once this is done you should be able to go to game data, IIRC, and choose the update to install it... Its one of the choices under the "Game" icon, I know that for sure... :)

Yeah, I recall that, too. However I tried and it doesn't show up.
Do I have to make a special folder for the update or just copy it, because something is still wrong.

Hmmm... Im not sure... PS3 it should be in folder form... and I think for the PSP it should also be in that form... I cant recall... havent done it that way for ages...

Same here, I think it was something rather cryptic, not just like 'UPDATE' or something, but I don't know...
Too bad PSP site doesn't help, it just says PSP would look for the update itself, but nope. :/
