Okay, is it just me or is the engine sound of the Impreza a little "weak"?

I know my TV speakers cant reproduce the real-life WRRROOOOOOMM-ing sound of the boxer engine and maybe the high revs that are more common in GT4 aren't supposed to have so much bass, but still.. you know... Just tell me if you're with me.

The Impreza boxer 4 woofles. It doesn't in GT4. BUT almost no car in any GT game ever has sounded like it's supposed to, so don't let it bother you.

You're kidding me. I thought they said that the car performs and sounds like the real thing.

Yes - they all sound LIKE the real thing, in the same way that hot chocolate powder tastes LIKE chocolate.

I'm also disappointed in the sounds. Many cars do not sound like they would in real life. Mind you I've never heard a real race car in my life, but I don't think they would all sound the same. Some cars do sound real good. I love turning up the sound of the '05 Mustang, sounds really nice.

In my real life I've heard many supercar sounds, like the pagani, many porsches( ruf), lots of ferrari..m3, slr, carreragt..evo, impreza...ecc ecc..
so..even if I like so much gt4 I don'l like (as you do) the engine sounds..turbo charged seems all the same and n/a are very different from reality..
the slr sounds like an electric car..porches never change tonality between 2.000 and 7.000rpm..
however I couldn't find nothing better..but a few days ago a friend of mine has shown me forza motorsport..and I found something much better!ferrari's sounds are amazing..and sounds so real!!also porsches(so so so real!!)!!but the most incredible is the carrera gt!!It's not a game is the engine start!!

yea yea those have great sounds but tell me that you can stand that all the cars can only withstand a little bit more than 1g in the turns? i cant stand it every car slides right off the road

yes i agree, my brother in law has a STI and it is very dissapointing to here GT4's STI sound.

Maybe in the new GT5 they should make it sound more realistic

Yeah I guess I can, I thought PGR2 was a lot of fun. It is an Arcade style racing sim afterall. My only complaint with the game is it always had so many narrow courses.

We could only hope with the PS3's capabilities that they will, but for some reason I doubt it. One thing I don't get about GT4 is in the Opening Sequence they have these race car sounds that are perfect, but yet they don't use these sounds in the game itself. For instance the Minolta and Ford GT LM Spec car sound completely different in the Opening from what they do in-game. If you can produce those sounds in the intro, what is stopping them from using it when we play the game? Why change the sounds? I just don't get it.

No cars in the game sound like the real life thing. If it did, it probably wouldnt have even come out yet because theyd have to get 700+ cars, record the noise, then render the noise so it sounds different at different RPMs and stuff. It would take forever.

They've done that (ish). Every car they've sampled has had sound samples taken at idle and every 1,000rpm to redline. Presumably they've come up with some sound-morph to blend the sounds into each other.

But the PS2 just isn't good enough to handle it - the Commodore Amiga A1200 could reproduce sound better. The PS3 will be (allegedly).

Yeah, but they havent done every single car. Also, I do not think it is really the PS2 that cant handle the sound, just the people's tv.

There's certainly an element of that in there too.

But they HAVE recorded every (real) car in the game in this manner - and a few more besides which didn't make GT4 (including the Ruf Turbo R).

Really? I didnt know that. I was under the impression that they did that to a few cars from each class, then slightly edited the sound of the motor for different car. Hey, you learn something new everyday.

why do you think it took them 4 whole years to develop the game? now quite yer complaining and play!@

Hmm, I wonder why it took them four yers to develope it... maybe cause it is one of the biggest games for the PS2, they had to recreate over 700 cars, all of those tracks, sound was a kind of small factor, although there is a lot of it.

i think the cars sound preety accurate but only at low rpm like launch in 3rd gear in any car and up to about 3000rpm they sound accurate IMO

I don't think its a matter of the PS2 or TV that can't handle the sounds, again why do they sound like the real thing in the Opening whereas in-game they don't? Obviously both the PS2 and TV are capable of using these sounds at that point in the game.

Watch a race on tv like the 24 hours of lemans and watch a replay wit the same cars in gt4 they wont sound anywhere near the same.

Dissapointing aint it

seems both limited by the ps2s sounds capability (it ain't my amp and speakers... onkyo and B&O! :->) and the developers lack of creativity. To be fair to them they have quite a few cars (especially some of the race cars) which probably have never existed (or at least wouldn't have been available to sample their sounds) so they would have had to make somehting up. Shame they copied so many. It was funny doing the 'ring 24hr in my RX7 LM to find it sounds exaclty the same as the s2000 race car thingy (which puts out a couple hundred less HP).

dont forget that subaru engine note is very determinant on the exhaust manifold.
the 'thump-thump' that everyone recognises is lost when you change to equal length tubular headers. the note again changes with a decent 'down-pipe'
new zealand gets plenty of JDM spec STIs - i had a ver8 for a while, and my brother a ver9 - both with full exhausts from compressor back - sound nothing like a 'normal' impreza - a little more like whats on the game with a hard-tuned subie.

I like turning the music off and the cranking my speakers up to 50 and start revving the engine. It makes my sister really really really mad. She came my room and goes," STOP IT!! DO YOU KNOW HOW LOUD THAT THING IS!"

have you ever heard a racing impreza.
they dont sound like the ones you hear on the street, like the bass(y) growl. they are high ppitched and they sound exactly like they do in gt4
take a STi version 6 and fully mod it, and it will scream, tjhats what they sound like

Gerjan
M3 GTR sounds wicked tho :D

yeah, but Gerjan, m3 gtr is a v8 it sounds like a v6 on jungle juice or something to me in gt4. same goes for the corvette race car, yeah right! heard same engine in holden monaro race car , sounds **** in gt4. and saw the m3 gtr race car at the bathurst 24hr driven by john bowe , has a nice euro hi tech v8 sound, also absent in gt-4. (i must point out that if the only place youve heard the car your bagging is on the road, it was probally running at half the rpm of race speed, listen on idle you may get a nice suprise,)

and dont even get me started on the formula gt, yeah right that sounds anything like a 3000cc V10 at 18500 rpm!
