so i guess everyone outside the US shouldn't feel bad about that, since this thread concerns "Americans on GTP"?

PR, sympathise with us. First off, you're from Canada, which is on the supercontinent of America. Second, sympathise with us, we lost our pride in a matter of minutes.

you didn't get it, obviously.

the thread says "Americans of GTP" does this means us non americans can't share our feelings on that disaster? the thread's title isn't correct, in my opinion. it's as if we didn't exist, and couldn't commemorate this event.

i was really disturbed that day, i had to quit work, i simply couldn't stare at that TV... i still can't believe there are human beings amongst us with that much lack of respect for human life...

Hey PunkRock, man. I got it.

By the way - I love how that site, so "devoted" to the loss is peppered with pop-up ads. If that isn't exploitation, I don't know what is.

North American, yes.

let's not derail from the original subject. my thoughts and prayers are with the families that suffered on that day. :(

PR, i think that particular link is a patriotic page directed specificaly at Americans. the title of this thread reflects that. i dont think he meant to imply that the events on 9/11 didnt affect anyone besides Americans.

the title of the thread has been changed. to anyone reading the thread now, some of the above posts may be irrelevent. the orig. title was something like "to americans on GTP"

Let us honour the dead by renewing our own efforts to treat those not like ourselves with a little more humility and respect. Let's each of us work to reduce the amount of conflict in the world, in whatever way we can, but by understanding that others can be different, and that that difference is not necessarily a bad thing.

The past should always show us the path to self-improvement, and September 11th certainly does that to me. There are always positives in any negative, it's just that sometimes you have to look a little harder.

I know I'm from England, but it affected me greatly when I witnessed it on the news. My thoughts are are with you all.

I would also like to congratulate the emergency services for their outstanding performance :gldmedal:

Lest we forget September 11th.

Well said Giles.

i was watching CNN, and they told a story of one firefighter who died on 9/11. he was off-duty that day, and was driving home, when he heard about the attack. he tried to drive down there, but got stuck in traffic, in the tunnel. so he got out of his car, put on all his gear, and ran 3 miles to the towers. he died when the towers collapsed, and he leaves behind a wife and 5 kids.

the whole story is on cnn.com, but i cant find it. if someone can, post the link. thats just one example of the kind of heroics that took place on 9/11.

I've always been proud to be American. Its the Greatest Nation on Earth.
When September 11th hit last year I can remember exactly were and what I was doing. I was driving my Civic to school, it was a late day to go in for us. I was just driving along and I pulled up next to a women at the light and she told me to turn my radio on. So I did and just then the second plane hit. I was like Holy **** whats happening. So I drove to school pretty fast so I could to a TV. I walked in to school an everyone was around TV's watching CNN. I didn't even know what to think. We spent the rest of the day in front of the TV not even going to class.

SR, im glad to hear that you love your country. Im proud to be an american as well. As far as the USA being the greatest nation in the world, that is obviously debatable. although there are pleanty of other countries i wouldnt mind living in, I honestly feel i would be most happy in America. Out of all the other countries systems of government, i think Americas suits me best.

i know thats a rambling paragraph above, but i did have a point. my point was that calling a nation the greatest is a qualitative statement based upon personal experience and opinon. others may have different viewpoints, and no one is necessarily right.

There is no debate about it that the USA is the best. Followed by Canada, America Jr.

A fact is something that is universally true.

An opinon is a belief based upon experience or some type of data and supporting facts.

when giving an opinion, it is best to give information that supports it. otherwise, it appears to be a statement of prejudice, which is a blind belief in something, without knowledge or examination of facts.

Ok America is the best because we have a strong military, strong democratic government,we are respected by most nations, many good products are produced here, and variuos other things. There I gave reasons.

As a footnote, I can say that the USA is the best nation for me, because the Constitution guards the values and rights which i feel are necessary for me to live a free life. Thats my opinion, and is based upon my life experience, what values are important to me, and what freedoms i believe should be protected.

Other governments suit other people better.

My point is, what nation u belive to be the greatest is an opinon. Other people may feel differently. its not like all the countries had a round-robin basketball tournament to see who is the "best". You cant exactly say one nation is the best, and call that fact.

*Edit: If the world did happen to have a basketball tournament, we would win. Can you say "Dream Team"? I just thought i should give an outcome to the hypothetical situation i presented. ;)

If everyone forgets the event on 9/11, there will be no reason to continue the war on terror. that is until terrorists strike again here, or in other parts of the world.

can't you see that if terrorism is not rooted out, the world will fall into a cycle of terror attacks?
