Hi there folks :)

This is a topic all about the music of GT4, and all aspects relating to that.

I have to admit, for me, good music (or at least good choice of music) is something every driving game should have. Anyone who's listened to the "generic rock" of Ferrari 355 challenge should know what I mean, by that one! (not to mention the godawful DJ! :p)

But GT4 blew me away... where most car games make do with say, 10-15 tracks (or even less) of music... somehow, despite cramming in 730 cars, and all those tracks, they shoehorned in over NINETY music tracks! NINETY! I mean, that's at least 5 CD's worth of music right there!
And something to cover all manner of tastes, from the latest rap artist, to sythe-classical... compare the musical difference to say NFS 1+2 or even GT3... it's truly staggering what they did...

But enough drooling! ;D What did YOU think of the musical achievement, as well as the music... what did you like, and what did you think they should have left out? Impressed, or depressed..?

Here's your chance to say... and me? Nothing like blasting round Laguna, listening to classical... ;)

I'll agree on that but could have a better selection or be able to have ur own music on there would be nice or evan better.

I thought it was nice for a while....surprisingly only the humor aspect of blasting around a track listening to classical appealed to me, so you can deduce it was short-lived. I don't listen to the music in GT4, just the game :) Frankly, considering how much and often I play the game, it doesn't matter how good of music they put in, I'm going to get tired of it. I'm not happy with the music they put in though...I don't know if they just don't like popular artists, but for some reason there's usually 2 or 3 famous songs coupled with a bunch of weird stuff from obscure artists (at least to me, I'm no music buff). Probably money-saving measures again, but it doesn't bother me, the music just interferes with my driving :)

I never have the music on in GT, and judging by the track list, there isn't a whole lot that I would like anyway.

well if they can make it where u can have ur own music then it would be more fun listening to it while ur racing on long races

and thank goodness for that. top 40 rubbish these days is all cover versions and birds with good racks poncing about. They have about as much musical significance as those old F1 racing games with just 3 lanes and tons of cars coming at you quick in terms of racing simulation significance...

a great mix!

I shut the music off for racing a while ago when I could plug in my iPod, now that I can't I may just turn it back on.
But in the replays it seems as though I hear only two or three tracks over and over.
Maybe it's just me.

The replays play the same music in the same order as during the race that recorded it..........

I quite liked most of the music in the game, I even went out and bought the CD's they came from, but after having the game for about 4-5 months Ive grown weary of it and now only have music in the replays which I dont watch anyway.
For all those who want their own music, I suggest getting a portable stereo and recording music you do like and play it that way. See its quite easy isnt it

music is fine. there are some gems in the jukebox that i wanna rip and put em in my ipod :)

ya know what's boring? listening to classical music while running 2 laps around the test track. zzzzzz.....

i dont really like the music.. but then again people have their own tastes.. i rather listen to the engine roar when im racing on gt4! heheh :P

Engine roar + 'Panama' = :)
I like quite a few of the songs in the GT4 jukebox, because the PAL version has the US and Asian soundtracks too. :D

nissan man
I concentrate too much and dont really listen 2 the music.
I attend to do that 2 but if its a good song I would hit b-spec mode just to listen to it

Engine roar, in GT4? Where. The engine sounds are crap in GT4, I have the music on just so it's harder to notice how crap the engine sounds really are. Theres a couple of good songs but thats it really, they did well getting that many songs in and covering that wide a range of songs but not many of the ones included were good imo.

i loved the classical music..... i turned my car sounds all the way to zero and my music to 16..... its funny because when my friend played he was like confused and asked wheres the car sounds and it feels funny without the car sounds. i love it.... was hoping for more classical (music freak) but its good

I wouldnt mind having only music but after awile some songs u just rather skip or turn it off

I listened to the music all the time in GT2... then in GT3, I played so much I got tired of the music, so I only put it on during replays... in GT4, I just turned everything off... not that there's nothing good on... (I still watch the intro movie sometimes, love the operatic part of the intro) ...it's just that I like being immersed in the moment. And I don't listen to music while driving, either... unless I'm in traffic.

I'm a musical person... I like to enjoy my music... but when I'm driving, I like to enjoy driving without any distractions.

I only really liked about half of the soundtrack. :dopey:

But seriously, it's great they had so much variety. Something for everyone, almost. And even just half the soundtrack is over 40 songs! Much, MUCH superior to NFS Underground or Burnout 3's music. I have a considerable number of GT4's music tracks stored on my computer and iPod.

I agree so everyone gets their own music so y cant u just pop in ur iPod and listen to them while ur racin?

A few points raised here...

Firstly, about being able to put your own music in... well, if the PS3 gets a hard drive as standard, you might get your wish... but I wouldn't get your hopes up. To date, only the Xbox has been able to do that... and PD don't programme for them! *grins*

As for those folk who turn it off... sure I can see that point, but... what happens when you're driving a long track, you're miles ahead and the only thing you've got to listen to is the whine of your engine..? For me, that's the perfect time to be listening to some "music to cruise to"... besides... who said you have to be RACING to listen to music... why can't you just chill, driving round your favourite track, with your preferred music quietly playing in the background..?

I still think getting more than 90 tracks in a driving game as huge as GT4 is an incredible achievement... sure, not every tune is my taste, but kudos to PD for making that kind of effort rather than just a few nondescript generic rock tracks thrown in as an afterthought... which seems to be the staple diet in driving games nowdays... (though I loved the music in Tokyo highway 1/Tokyo Xtreme racer 1... great driving beat synth stuff there :)

theres three tracks i dont mind hearing: panama, the ferris bueller song, and the rockabilly song(so long baby, goodbye) but every other song is ridiculously repetitive, i.e., the eight million papa roach songs and that STUPID STUPID song where the guy's like you are the real dream...you are the real THING. those songs make me want to shoot my ps2. luckily, i did not do that. i turn down the volume on the tv and listen to sports talk radio. music is for when i drive my real life car. 👍

When I said "popular" music, I certainly didn't mean "pop" music, I just meant some that was a little less obscure...it seems for half their artists they just found the ones that would be cheapest to license. I'm not really complaining, because like I said, I'd get tired of it no matter what, but I don't listen to it. And the only time I get bored driving in GT4 is when I'm lapping the Test Track or going down the Sarthe II backstraight. Otherwise I don't need anything to distract me, I'm fine with the engine sound...although it does piss me off when my V8 sounds like a fart-canned Civic.

Its more of a classical Rock favorites than anything else

Now THAT would be awesome...unfortunately there's only a few in the game, but I do admire them for putting in so many genres. I think a lot of the Daikai Kaishwhateveritis songs could have been replaced...there are way too many of those, and I have no idea who or what it is. Maybe replace them with some good driving songs like "Slow Ride", "Magic Carpet Ride"....have an adult version with "Break Stuff"...although I've heard of too many people throwing controllers to have Break Stuff on there to fuel the fire...

yeah those would be good and just have the free ride of the music while racing

Big labels demand exorbitant licensing fees.

Actually, Papa Roach did only two songs for GT4, one of which is OK (Getting Away With) and the other of which is garbage (Not Listening). It's Daiki Kaisho who has too many songs.

Most of GT4's music sucks, except for "Panama", the Joe Satiriani song, and "So Long Baby Goodbye".

In an LMP car, the Mulsanne is not boring. It's really narrow, things are going by really fast, the car is shaking and jittering, and it's really kind of scary.

I dont play the music in gt4 because its not stuff that i really like. I want some foo fighters, theyre my fave band!!!!
