Hey,
So I decided to do the 1000 km Suzuka endurance race yesterday. I figured out that you can start it in one of 3 different climates, so to speak. It's supposed to be in the rain. The first time I went in was to see what cars I'd be up against and it was raining. So I exited it, went and got a different car and came back. I went to start it and found it was cloudy but not raining. So, for grins and giggles I exited again and then restarted it. Sunny and blue and skies. ??? Anyway, I went back to my garage, grabbed my F1, equipped it with the racing soft tires and started the race with the cloudy climate. I started spanking the competition...so much so that I had all the cars lapped 7 times within the first 25 laps. At lap 33 it started to rain a bit and the car was starting to lose grip at the rear just a little bit so I figured I'd pit and put on the rain tires. Simple enough right? Wrong. My pit crew had other ideas. I went into pit lane, selected the rain tires and headed on out. Not only could I not keep the car on the track, I was lucky if I could get it over 90 mph without the @$$ end going all over the place. I immediately pitted again to put the racing softeez back on. So what do I see when the prompt menu comes up..? The racing hard tires had been selected! I didn't pick those. So, then I chose the rain tires again and headed on out. At this point my 7 lap lead is down to 5 laps. And again, the car was all over the place. I pitted, got the prompt menu to choose my tires and what do I see..again..? This time the racing intermediate tires were selected!! I did not make these selections in any way, shape, or form. WTF is going on here?! Has anybody else had this happen? Am I missing something? This hasn't happened on any other endurance race or any race in general.
Any ideas?

It's best if when the race starts, look to the bottom right of the screen and there is a "PIT STRATEGY" icon. Click that and you can select your tires for the next pit stop and when to pit him based on his Strength Level.

I usually have it set for Racing Wet when it's just cloudy cause eventually it will rain. So every time he pits, the crew will replace with those same tires.

Sorry if I missed it, but where does it say he did it in B-Spec?

The game usually chooses what it thinks is the best tire setup for the given situation automatically. This is normal. So when you choose the tire setup, that's the setup you have. The game only changes it upon entering the pits, but you can change it to whatever you like.

It's more a suggestion than the game actually changing the tires on you.

WTF is going on here?!

The game is suggesting to you what tyres you should use, you're ignoring it and making your own selection and then blaming the game for your subsequent handling issues due to the tyres.

happened to me
i selected racing intermediate in the pit strategy thingie
but i got racing hards instead

Ok, if that were the case, why would the game suggest racing hard tires or the intermediate tires while it's raining and not the rain tires? Even after it started raining, before my first pit I was actually getting pretty decent handling with the race soft tires. That doesn't make sense to me.

freight48 Forgot to mention, this is happening in A spec, sorry.

stupidstormy36 I did notice that when I enter the pit, the menu window comes up with a set of tires I don't want with a check next to them. I change the tires to what I want, then click the 'ok' button. But the car handles atrociously immediately after I leave the pit. That's telling me I'm not getting the tires put on that I'm selecting.

Which it is...

The game will suggest either the tyres you already have on - if there is no need to change due to conditions - or the type of tyre best for the conditions. Remember that it needs to be absolutely pouring down before full wets are better than intermediates.

You always get the tyres you selected. If the game suggests that the grip has degraded to a point where you need intermediates and you pick race hards instead, you're going to have a bad time.

@ Famine.

I'm having the same trouble as OP at the moment althought in B-spec. My drives are currently racing the Le Mans 24 hours, it is pouring down all along the track, but the game insists that they use dry-weather tires, this results in the car sliding out in EVERY corner! and the same goes for all the opponents for that matter.
Then when i force my driver to pit and put on rain tires, as soon as he leaves the pit, the little pit-light comes on, indicating that he will pit again after this lap (althoughe is able to actually drive the car with the rain-tyres on), then the pit crew puts the dry-weather tires back on again?! And I allready changed the settings in the "pit-strategy" options to pick rain tires, but it changes nothing, the pit crew still puts the wrong tires on

Don't tell me this is just the game suggesting the best tires for the conditions, because it clearly is not!

EDIT:
:lol::lol::lol:
To be fair I have to mention that I just checked the game, and every car actually changed to intermediate (that's just bad timing :))

But still, it toke the game 5 hours to realise it was raining and then shift to the apropriate tires :banghead:

For some reason, the AI cars struggle really badly at Suzuka when it rains, no matter what tyre they're on. It happens at the 1000km race and it happens in the F1 series too. I wouldn't seek to explain why this is - apart from "Bug?"

same trouble with me but if you leave it be for a few laps the pit crew will make up its mind. also if this is correct you said it was cloudy when you stared the race. yes it is true it is raning but it will take awhile for you to need full rain tires, let the driver detrmin wether it will be rain or just damp. (my b spec drivers did the same thing but they figured it out after ten laps or so).👍

My personal configuration for the formula gran turismo in the rain is to use the race intermediate up front in light rain conditions, and the race rain up front only in the heaviest of downpours that have accumulated deep water on the track surface. I keep the rear wheels set to use race soft as they still provide the best level of acceleration grip in the rain. The intermediate/rain tires as front tires do provide shorter braking distances and better cornering grip on wet surfaces. Also, softening the suspension will make the tires grip the surface better as well. I have a rain setup for the FGT in my thread if you need it.

Idd... I won the race by 17 laps with a custom tuned Takata Dome NSX '03 on a mix of Race Hard/Medium(dry), Race Intermediate/Medium(wet), Race Rain/Soft(really wet)... but people gonna use FGT cause game has no restrictions... make of it what you will for yourself.

I'm just like he is. If it's a set amount of laps and there is no restriction, I'm using the FGT to hurry up and finish the race. Both A and B Spec.

But it's a set time, 4 hr race, I'll usually try to get a vehicle that is AT MOST 50 hp greater than the comp. Try and keep it a close race because I'll spin out occasionally and they'll close the ground.

Because at that point, it doesn't matter how many laps you do, it's all time based. So either having a FGT or an exact car as the competition you're stilling running for the same time period.

I'm sorry if this has been mentioned but has it occured that the tyres need to warm up properly to get good grip. In the rain tyres tend not to heat up as quick...

All tires heat much slower when the surface is wet because of hydroplaning effect reduces the acceleration and braking friction. The water can also carry away and dissipate heat at the source between the tire contact patch and surface. You can run race soft in heavy rain conditions and they will stay light blue for many laps. The rain tread has groves to channel that water away so it makes those tires better for braking and direction change. I'm not quite sure why the acceleration grip is so poor though, but camber has been shown to help as well. How precise is the wet surface modeling when dealing with tire contact patch is the real question.
