hey everybody!for all of you fans out there that like Initial D as much as I do,then this information may be useful to you...seeing as I just read another Initial D Manga by Tokyopop like, last week and I noticed how AWFULLY BAD they did on giving the characters different names,I just thought I'd announce that they plan on doin' the same thing to the actual anime when it comes to America!let's just hope that it won't be the same way in Subtitled..keep it original damnit!!anyways, here's the article I found on an anime website while lookin' for some Initial D merchandise !

"TOKYOPOP has announced a number of changes they are making to the manga and anime versions of Initial D. TOKYOPOP has the rights to the manga, anime, and merchandising of Initial D in America. TOKYOPOP has insisted on keeping Japanese place names and customs, but will change character names. The new names are as follows:
"So, Takumi becomes Tak, and Itsuki becomes Iggy, and Bunta & Kenji become Bunta & Kenji (wait, those aren’t good examples - gomen!), and Wataru Akiyama becomes Aki, and Keisuke Takahashi becomes K.T."
These names will be present throught the anime, manga, and other Initial D merchandise, including video games. The dubbed anime is being aimed at network television and some content will be edited for standards. However, unedited, subtitled versions will be available."

---------------------

and there ya have it..somethin' I really wish they wouldn't do...but I don't know,am I the only one that thinks this,or do any of you guys out there care if they were to change Bunta's name to Bob or somethin' like that, just so american's could understand it,and how to pronounce it,cause americans seem to think that the names of Takumi Fujiwara,Bunta Fujiwara,Itsuki,Natsuki,Nakazato,etc.. are to "complex" to understand on how to pronounce..so am I the only one who seems to feel this way,or how do you guys feel about this situation?

AE86Driver

P.S. oh yeah, the whole changin' Bunta to Bob was just an example of what they might do,just so people will understand it..*whispers softly to himself* please don't do it Tokyopop..please don't do it Tokyopop..please don't do it Tokyopop..hopefully they're not reading this :P

yeah, that would suck =P,but anyways, more people please reply about this important matter! by the way,Ninja Scroll kicks ass, hehe (refering to your avatar)

P.S. why'd you follow me anyways,Neon?stay in your own section!this is for people that enjoy Initial D and that are actually concerned about this matter, and besides..there's a differance from an otaku in anime and someone who reeeeeally enjoys it and they know what they're talkin' about and they tell people valuble (well,I thought it was) information about an anime..I would be considered a rank over fanboy..maybe one known as an obsessive person with no life that can tell you what the anime is in a Korean Anime Catolog when it has nothing about the anime's name in English, thank you :P!

So, shortening the names doesn't really affect the anime. As long as they don't change the anime, its fine :smilewink

I really don't mind it. I mean, it really is easier for me to keep tabs on the charactars because I am not that familiar with the original names. As long as the story isn't affected, I'm fine with it.

You do realize that this thread is well over a year old?

Now when you say 'well over a year', do you mean 'slightly under a year'?

And yes, of course he knows that - he's the loser who brought it up from the end pages of this forum. He should be banned on the spot.

 that'd be funny!
Hmm. Let's hope that won't happen. :P
But yeah, i read something like those too, i don't think they should change the names. It sounds weird... i mean leaving the names alone won't be that hard to read or understand! I mean, look at the things... even when pokemon came out they had names, and like every kid knew them  So why not racers that drift their cars with special abilities? :mischievous:

Exactly my thoughts. Isn't this kinda like rearranging furniture on the deck of the Titanic?

Understand - the manga/anime is Japanese. That makes it the Holiest of Holies, utter perfection, absolute sublimity printed backwards and wrapped between two covers.

I mean, you'd probably take offense if the editors of the Bible referred to the Trinity as Bunta, Ghost, and Chris, wouldn't you?

The same kind of fervor applies to otaku; in fact, much more so.

What the hell is otaku anyway? I watched Initial D, and found it to be slightly entertaining, but I never really looked into the whole fanboy side of it or any other animes for that matter.

otaku = Western person who wishes they were Japanese, and thinks everything Japanese is by definition wonderful, just because it's Japanese.

It's kind of an extension of the syndrome that makes it possible for every foreign exchange student to get laid, regardless of actual desirability.
