Initial D Question

Yo, this isnt GT3 related but alot of you drifters are big Initial D fans. In Second Stage Takumi blows his standard engine and his dad puts in a 20v AE101 engine, im not sure what he puts in they really never say, but thats what im guessing from the picture they show in the second stage opening movie. If im wrong let me know cause that would tell me everything... the AE101 is like 600 bucks and only puts out 160 Hp i belive, how come everyone is so like wide eye when they see it...and the guy who drives the levin, say its a financial impossibility. thats not that much money. They say its a racing engine.. but how much could u honestly get from this engine..o well its just a tech question im curious about.

Factory was 165. I think the silvertop was around 140 but the one Takumi has is a blacktop. If you think about it JiveTurkey, 240hp out of a 1.6L naturally-aspirated engine is quite a lot.

The reason it's financially impossible is because first of all the engine is impossible to find, and would cost around $8000 to build. Second, because it's a race-built engine, it needs to be rebuilt very often (the thing revs to 11,000 after all). It's just not practical for a street-driven car to have such an engine. Running on the street, you'd be better off using a 4A-GZE with a turbo like the guy in the Levin.

well 11k on high revs doesnt mean he drives 11k all overtown,i understand what ur saying but i still dont see it. oh well.. maybe im to far ahead or tofar behind who knows..lol...hey u got any pictures of engines like the one he has. i have an exstensive car picture collection on my computer, anything owuld be appresiated....oh this is what i thought his dad put in.

Regardless of whether or not the engine is run at those RPM, all engine parts are a compromise. What was the component built for? Some flow more air, some maintain air velocity, etc. Anyway, the parts in his engine are built to take more of a beating, and so they wear out faster, whether or not you're actually driving it harder. Racing transmissions in particular are a pain in the neck, I hear.

BTW, that engine in the pic has a turbo so no it is not the engine Takumi had. Probably fairly similar to the one the guy with the Levin had though, although I bet the Levin's was a GZE not a 20-valve. Not many people put turbos on the 20V, they're fairly high compression compared to the GZE which was built for forced induction. That's a really nice engine though, I like how he did ITB's even with the turbo!

Okay, first off. A Group A engine IS impossible to find, my dad and I are still looking for one. The parts are rare... so rare that TRD has to make the parts when they're ordered... nobody carries these parts.

I bought my AE-101 for around $800USD I think, and the "silver-top" 4A-GELU pushes around 150ps stock. My engine currently uses parts from the Group A and the Formula Atlantic yet I can only get 10,000revs from it and 209ps.

Ohh yes it's a whole lot.

Impossible to find... yes. $8,000USD... multiply that by three. My engine, which is a fraction of the performance a Group A, needs to be rebuilt about 3 times a year, a Group A I'm guessing would need to be rebuilt once every two months depending on how it's used.

Well said pergatory.

Diety, I hate you. I hate you for having 3 86's a skyline and an fc. I hate you because you live in Japan and you get to race your cars. I hate you because you can rebuild any freakin car you want. Why can't you send me one of your 86's? Just one? I'll stop hating you...:(

Hey doesnt keiichi tsuchiya got a racing trd engine in his ae86 that also rev to 11k... i heard it was speciaily made for him... do you know how much power he is pushing from his 86... and if you didnt know keiichi tsuchiya owns half of initial d or something... well i seen on a site it said that he has a special TRD engine made exspecially for him that rev around 11k just like the one in initial d...

Why hate? I love you man... ;). My dad brought me into racing so it's not my fault. If I could send you a car... I would... not.

He uses an advanced AE-111 4A-GELU and he shifts at around 9,300RPM I think. Yes, TRD made that engine for him because he used to race in the Advan AE86 and he did a spectacular job. His AE86 pushes around 170ps, but like he says, "Balance is everything." My dad and I have witnessed him beat 500ps GT-R's with his little Hachi-Roku. I don't know much about the Initial D thing, I'm not a HUGE fan of it, I just own the DVD's and I plan on getting this Ultimate Initial D Collection that's coming out soon. His engine is very special, it's a little better than mine, but mine is pushing 39ps more than his. But I think his skill is a little better than mine.

The S.S. version of the AE86 is just a car that the creators of GT3 put in the game because of Shigeno's cartoon. I'm not 100% sure if he actually owns a car with a TRD engine, but I know he does own a AE86 hatch-back. I want to race Tsuchiya in the circuits, but I'm happy enough just losing to my dad. Another loss will make me feel bad. Hopefully one day I'll challenge him... but then he'd get it filmed on BM and then I'll be embarrassed. Thanks for the boost of confedence though.\
