Interest Check: "Endurance racers of the world, unite!"

I have given up on this. I'm going to do Ashley's F1 series, instead.

I'm still interested in the enduro series but I had to choose based on time constraints.
 
That's fine, the initial idea was that there would be about four weeks period for people to complete the Endurance race. So if you were able to find a time within that period, you are more than welcome to enter.

I'm also thinking of dabbling in the F1 series, due to me being a lifelong F1 fan. However i will have to see if i can make time for it, but hey! I'll cross that bridge when i get to it!
 
Right, i was only able to test three cars, due to time constraints as i did not have the Suzuki GSX-R4. So i had to obtain that one, which took quite a while..

Anyway the cars are:

Lotus Elise Sport = 187bhp and weighs 670kgs

Holden Monaro CV8 '04 = 333bhp and weighs 1658kgs(!)

Suzuki GSX-R4 = 181bhp and weighs 640kgs


The findings from the test, which was three laps around the El Capitan track to gauge how they handle and the times they would get in the hands of an average GT'er (ie: me)

First: Lotus Elise Sport 190

Lap 1: 2.02.128
Lap 2: 2.00.806
Lap 3: 2.00.484

Impressions:
The car is very tail happy, which meant that one has to be careful with the speed and what they were doing on entry to the corner. Many a time was spent making sure that the car didn't actually hit the sides....which it did. Often. However it was enteraining and quite a challenge to control the car and get a fast time. So, for those who want to be enterained for the duration of the race, chose this.



Second: Holden Monaro CV8 '04

Lap 1: 2.03.204
Lap 2: 2.01.554
Lap 3: 1.59.120

Impressions:
This car, compared to the Lotus is more wallowy. But due to the sheer weight of the car (1,658kgs!) the car was a lot more controllable over the bumps and yumps. It was more surer on the brakes as well. The extra power of the Monaro made it slightly faster than the Lotus. Therefore if you prefer a more stable and smoother ride for just over 2hrs, choose this.



Last: Suzuki GSR-R4 '01

Lap 1: 1.53.060
Lap 2: 1.53.349
Lap 3: 1.50.851

Impressions:
Just WOW! This is a proper pocket rocket car! I had to check that the car didn't have racing tires on (it didn't), as it was able to grip and go on the corners! Easily the fastest, as it rewards good driving with a fast ride. The gears are longer than the other two, but it does not affect the car at all. However, racing this car in the El Capitan will mean that you would win with a fairly large margin, as the Lotus Motorsport does 1.53 or thereabouts at it's fastest, and does around 1.58-2.00 on cold tires. Choose this for a fast and stable ride.



Note: All cars were Stock, only a Oil change was given to the Lotus Sport 190 and Suzuki GSR-R4. All had Sports Mediums on. There were no suspension modifications, as i did not want to put people off if they had to buy suspension and gearing kit and fiddle with them, creating more time needed to get the best out of the race.


If anyone wants to have more choice, then please let me know, however we have to start the race sooner rather than later:)


Driven-USA: I wasn't able to test the Viper or the GT40, as their power output of them were too high and would have killed off any competition. I want to try and get everyone to have a good race with the AI to make things interesting.

Drew22: I didn't have enough time to test the Audi TT.


Right, i must go and leave you all to chose, or make more suggestions, whichever you want.
 
Having been an ignorant bast--- and only read the first and last posts I've come to the conclusion that this series is only in the brain-storming stage. How about basing it on a "real life" race series? Maybe we could try to put together a group of cars from the Le Mans (ALMS, LMES, 24h) GT and GTS classes? Ever since finding the MAX Drive save for this game (June '05) I've been tooling around with some cars trying to find the best way to make them race like their ALMS cousins, (i.e. Ruf RGT = Porsche 911 [996] GT3 RSR or Callawy C12 = Chevrolet Corvette C6-R etc. etc. etc.) In some cases like the Saleen or Ruf, the little details will get to you, i.e. no rear wing, or with the Callawy it is NOT based on the C6 but it is based on a Vette platform and the silhouette is similar but w/e. Maybe we could simplify and make a Rolex Grand-Am style GT Class with RGT's, M3's, Pontiac GTO's and such as the entrants, any ideas, questions or comments would be cool.

What i am actually doing, is trying to get this one race off the ground. Just the one race at El Capitan as Mulsanne, the thread starter has either disappeared or taken an extended holiday which by the time we would have finished and taken the results Mulsanne should be back.

That's the plan anyway. However if that does not quite happen, the thread will either die or someone will create a new thread about Endurance racing or continue this on.

It would be really nice if someone would make ANY comment about the car selections? I'm starting to think that no-one likes it...:(

I am very interested in the Enduro Series. I've been a fan of Endurance racing since I can remember. I think it would be cool to get this off the ground, but it is hard for ANY series to get off the ground when they are held over a long period of time with very finite rules.

Most successful series run on this formula or one very similar to it:

1. Simple group of similarly prepared cars.

2. Ten or so SHORT races: maybe 10-20 laps each. (JGTC went beyond but it is still in the formula.)

3. Quali and Race threads.

4. MAYBE a test date to see how the cars stack up in the hands of different drivers.

It's pretty baisic but it seems most series that I've seen and see as successful do that. (Other than Group C or JGTC or w/e but they are "simple" too.) The question is; is the populus more interested in racing cool cars or racing for 2.75 hours (or w/e the average is) and then seeing how they faired vs. everyone else. Also, it would appear as if with the cars selected we would not be heavy favorites for winning these events. If I'm in a Suzuki racing against a Mercedes-Sauber C9, I don't like my chances. Maybe we could hold off on the enduro and just get a small group of cars that are of similar performance in a 10 race championship over the next few months to see who the loyalists are and if they'd be willing to stick with the series as it went enduro. Just some thoughts it'd be pretty cool if this series got off the ground. Consider me IN if the series starts.

Well, if that is the case, then i will have to think about it more, and create a new thread outlining the new series.

You have given me a few ideas DaveRoy about the length of the races. I may be in contact via PM if that is alright with you?

It would be good to get some sort of Endurance series going to use the long distance races and also customise a race using the Arcade mode.

My fellow racers,

I wish to apologize for my actions (or rather, lack of) over the past few months. I know many of you were interested in this series, had contributed some great ideas and were looking forward to competing. My disappearance left you guys in the lurch and for that, I apologize.
The only explanation I can offer is that over the winter, I simply lost interest. I lost interest in Gran Turismo, this board and, in fact, my PS2 altogether. It has been collecting dust over the past few months. It has only been in the past few weeks I have started playing again (after my recent trip to Sebring for the ALMS race). I realize that is no excuse for what I did. I should have at least notified all of you, so your time would not have been wasted waiting for me to take the next step, so you could have turned your attention to something else or allowed someone else to take over the series. I still believe the concept for the series is a sound one and would not stand in the way of anyone wanting to take over the series or if someone were to come up with a similar idea.

I realize this has significantly (perhaps irreparably) damaged my credibility among my fellow racers. And for that, I am sorry. I hope you can forgive me and that we can race together in the future.

I'm still ready to race with ya man ! No credibility loss here.Life happens, interests ebb and flow, no big deal. Hard to believe but real life is a tad more important then GT, just a tad mind you. Anyway put it back out there man, you fessed up, no harm ,no foul let's do some enduros!!!
 
I think this is a fantastic idea and I'd love to see it get off the ground. I'm ready when you are.
