Go buy one of each and tell us what its like. Please!

Some correction:

The McLaren F1 LM is a limited edition of 5 cars made to be suprior to the standard F1. It is not a road going version of the F1 GTR race cars. And there were indeed 3 F1 GTs built, mostly for testing purposes, that are road going versions of the F1 GTR race cars. 2 are short tails, 1 is a long tail.

Actually, McLaren even say themselves that the F1 LM is a road going GTR.

McLarencars.com
To celebrate this extraordinary feat, McLaren Cars created a limited edition of just five LM's - one for every F1 GTR which finished the race. Whilst the LM is a model in its own right, the concept was that it should be a 1995 F1 GTR, with the minimum modifications to make it usable on the road. Thus the LM runs the most powerful engine of any F1, road or race, by using an 1995 GTR engine without the air restrictors. It also features the race car aerodynamics, gearbox and 18" inch wheels.
Thats what the site said about the F1 LM, this is what it says about the F1 GT.
McLarencars.com
The final variant of the McLaren F1 road car, the F1 GT, was developed to achieve downforce matching that of the F1 LM, but with less drag. To achieve this balance, the F1 GT featured extended front bodywork and revised rear-deck profile.

With such sleek lines and dramatic new wheel-arch louvres the F1 GT became visually the most exciting McLaren yet.
Powered by the hand-built McLaren BMW S 70/2 6.1-litre V12 engine the F1 GT offered instant performance at any speed, in any gear. Featuring a redesigned interior, upholstered in fine Connolly leather and Alcantara suede the F1 GT set a new standard of luxury for Grand Touring cars.

Continuing the design philosophy of the original F1 and the spectacular F1 LM, the F1 GT is the ultimate Grand Touring car.

Wow!I want just want one!

No offense, but if you want to talk McLaren and Ferrari, I have created three topics for each respective discussion. Search:

"McLaren in GT4: Welcome to the Party or Uninvited?" (GT4)
"Had Porsche and Ferrari Been in GT4..." (GT4)
"McLaren F1 vs. Ferrari Enzo" (Cars in General)

Now as far as the pictures by the love-or-hate dude himself, Cobra, Here's my commentary. All three appear as concept videos. The left one really does look like Fuji in the wet. My only thing is, when will I get to race the Esso Ultraflo Supra (2002 GT500 Champions) around the track? The middle one looks more like the McLaren F1 than anything. Maybe that was a video on how the polygon work was done. I know about looking at polygons as I have a subpar sense of creating 3D images. The right one seems more like a demonstration of what Gymkhana (or however you spell it) will be like. Only thing is, I don't think any F1 race cars will take on the Autocross (wanna push there, Michael Scumacher?).

That's all. Thanks for reading.

Ferrari all the way, 250 gto :D :D :D
But mclaren are very good indeed

There was no GTR long tail road car, the LM was the road version of the race cars, but there was the F1 GT which had a long tail but no wing, it was designed to have more downforce than the F1 but less than the LM, the LM is the true road version of the F1 racers.

The 1995 F1 GTR race cars were based on the original production cars.

The 1996 F1 GTR race cars were based on the F1 LM road car. These had wider front wheel arches, a bigger splitter, bigger rear wing and less weight.

The 1997 F1 GTR Long Tail was based on the F1 GT raod car. These had wider and longer front and rear bodywork (to create more downforce and reduce drag), a segenuential gearbox (race version), and were much, much lighter than the short tail cars. The F1 GT and subsequent F1 GTR long tail race cars produced far more downforce than previous F1 road and race cars.

I we know what a McLaren looks like. You obviously don't see that.

But GT-One Lover needs to know. So continue on.

But some quite obviously don't know the significant differences between the models etc. :)

Thats what images are for. :dunce:

You want a stat sheet attached to the pics? :)

How bout you just goto the McLaren Website? They tell the differences in the cars, and have a pic of each one! Great idea eh? 👍

There you go! Click on the model you want and read the info, so you can all stop argueing!
Oh and if you are wondering what one the Fina car team is using as a base, they are using the 97 GTR, can tell by the roof scoop, front lip, and headlights.

Nice find... I was too lazy to actually look for a stat sheet...

And the 1 metre long chunch of carbon tail sticking out of the rear. :)

My point about the road cars was that some were saying the F1 LM was the basis of the F1 GTR, wereas all 3 F1 road car versions spawned various GTR race cars. :dunce:

The F1 LM came after the GTR were first built, which is why on the McLaren site it says the F1 LM is a road version of the GTR, not the other way round the GTR is not the race version of the LM. The LM was built to celebrate the F1's victories at LeMans, as for the F1 GT it say's nothing about it in relation to any F1 GTR's. I'm not saying your wrong on the GT, but just pointing out that the LM is the road version of the GTR and that the McLaren site says nothing about a connection between the F1 GT and the GTR long tail.

The bottom line is, the LM is the road version of the GTR, nothing can say otherwise since thats what McLaren say. No one said the LM was turned into the GTR, or used as the basis for the GTR.

I agree those are fantasy cars. You forgot the ZZ2 and the vintage F1 cars.

A McLaren? A McLaren what? McLaren F1? Mercedes SLR McLaren? McLaren MP4-xx F1 car? A McLaren is not a car. Stop behaving like a two year old and getting all huffy when someone corrects you. There's always someone out there who knows more than you. Take advantage of that and learn rather than whining about it.

my bad your right about that i remember the vecter well now the still never had ferarri lambergihni or MClaren's i would love to see the cadi and some trucks

the nearist most thing to a truck was gt2 midgt tiny bed thing

I was wondering if someone would suggest that.

Please don't turn this into a wishlist thread either, we have quite a few of those, I'll wager anything you want to see has been covered in depth before, from trucks to tracks to Triathlon Race Cars.

You are right, the F1 LM was built to celebrate Mclarens Le Mans win in 1995. But it was also built to homologated new bodyparts for the 1996 specification F1 GTR race car. The F1 LM road car had wider front wheel arches and a bigger splitter to help eliminated the understeer the race car had been suffering from. Other details were also changed.

The F1 GT was the road car homologation special that was required to homologate the 1997 long tail F1 GTR. As the F1 GTR was competing in GT1 at least one road car was needed to homologate a car for racing.

As the long tail F1 GTR was significantly different from the original road car, the F1 GT road car was built. Just like Porsche, Mercedes, Toyota and Nissan made at least one road car version of their GT1 cars.

Okay then I didn't know that :).
