Intermediate rally makes no sense to me!

Just wanted to say a quick thanks for all the advice in here, was really struggling with some of these. Am now the proud owner of a C4 rally car and a few more golds under my belt for most of the Rally stuff.

Also, with a bit of luck and being on a winning streak I golded the top gear test track with those hateful campervans. Took me to level 23 to best that as well. :-( How I hated the rear view of those things - must've had about a dozen second places and god only knows how many DQ's with that one...

So it's been a productive night. Now, If I could only get the teeth marks out of my wheel from the other failed attempts...

Cheers again people. First post - so please be gentle!

OK. I seriously don't get it. I've tried the Subaru Rally Car 01 and the Lancia Delta, with any/every combination of driving aid on or off, and I am ALWAYS a good 5-10 seconds behind on every dirt stage in intermediate. It's frustrating to say the least. I managed to get gold in beginner with the Delta, and the snow routes are a breeze (it's like driving on rails, in comparison to the dirt track)

These cars behave like wet noodles... nothing is holding the road. What am I doing wrong? Can someone please list their EXACT setup?

A few more wipeouts, and the settings I've found that work best so far (for the Delta) is:

- Traction Control OFF
- Skid Recovery ON
- Steering Assist STRONG
- ASM OFF
- ABS 1

I achieved silver with that. Maybe could've gotten gold if it wasn't for one corner I didn't time right (you have to let the tail go a bit), and I went spinning into a penalty about 10 meters from the finish line :(

I use a Subaru Impreza WRX STI '10 and I seemed to get gold fairly easily on all the intermediate stages. I believe I had to do the dirt a few times, but never got too frustrated (unlike the damn license tests...)

I have it tuned to 344 HP. I think i just slapped on a big turbo to get close to the max HP, then just did minor engine/intake/exhaust tweaks. then I did some weight reduction, and all of the drivetrain stuff, including the Torque sensing center diff. Also think I have the customizable suspension, and a 6 speed close ratio tranny. I have the Diff set to 40/60 front/rear... seems to work well, gives me a bit of sideways action but easy to keep under control with some violent flicks on the wheel (using a G27 btw).

For the dirt tracks i just focused on braking early to get the most speed possible out of the corners. Dont try to drift too much. Also, I have ALL of the assists off. ABS on 1 or 2.
And this car should be able to destroy the Snow intermediate by over a minute... lol

I did the Advanced Dirt and Snow last night, as was blown away by how easy it was, using the Lancia Delta S4. I was almost 3 minutes ahead on the snow course, and about 15 seconds up on even the dirt course.

That said, maybe I just used the wrong car for the intermediate dirt course. Oh well. The times also seem screwed up (i.e. sometimes being 8s ahead, to finish 4s behind). While the auto-generated stages are cool, it's no rally game; more of an afterthought.

The loading times are insane, though! Having to chug through 8 stages at once, with long loading times between each is brutal. I just hope I didn't miss any good cars in the used car lot because of the 8 refreshes :scared:

In the snow it was just way to easy. I golded all 3 levels on the first try winning by several seconds on the first one, 2 minutes on the second one and 4 minutes on the master even though I wrecked a couple of times and picked up a few penalties. In one of the Master events I managed to pass all 3 opponents before the finish.

btw I used a Honda Civic on the first one, A Lancer on the second one and the Delta S4 on the master.

On the Tarmac I used the Hommel on the first one and won with ease, The Lotus 111r RM on the second one and blew them away. Have not did the last one yet.

I was fuming about this last night, there is something that feels super cheaty/rigged on the part of the a.i. times.

I was up 15 seconds on the next guy at ss8 of the advanced dirt, even had a few penalties before. Then I do the last run, same pace as all the others, no penalties and I'm magically 16 seconds behind?? I had this happen with the inter tarmac too, so frustrating.

But the advanced snow and tarmac I won first try with like +120 seconds and +45 seconds, it's completely messed up.

I've also been having same problem as OP. I got so frasturated I had to quit playing rally all together. I want that damn X1, though.

I think the snow is a little too easy. . .
But, then again, i live in Alaska
If you want a challenge, use all aids off save abs=1
If you want easy, then keep SRF on.
With SRF on, you should be able to destroy the AI by braking enough for the corners and NOT hitting the barriers. Snow stages seem to be really sensitive about the barrier hit penalties.

Also, i found a glitch with all of these rally stages. If you get in front of the first car by enough, they won't finish and the game will treat them as if they finished 0 seconds behind.

I think on expert rally i destroyed them by at least 1.5 minutes on each stage and only 5 of the minutes were counted. It should have said 12 minutes behind for them!
Inter rally was definitely harder. Just try to stay consistent and brake enough for corners.

If you are new to rally DO NOT complain about rally

Rally is completely different in technique compared to going to a race track or drifting.

F1 2007 world champion Kimi raikkonen switched to WRC this season with red bull and he flipped the car on almost all of his races.

7 time WRC champion Sebastian Loeb I am sure has helped develop the simulation.

So do not complain about it if your new in it.

Because trust me it's going to be a different everything.

i won the intermediate lv 15 rally challenge with Loeb WRC car and beat the AI by a total time of 1 minute and 20 seconds in the snow. They sucked in this challenge.

Just get the C4 from Loeb's challenge, it makes it super easy. The advanced snow one was so easy I almost overtook all three of the other cars lol.

The only hard one was the Gravel Master, simply because the slim tracks require hard braking at almost every corner.

Using a DS3 with all assists off except ABS to 1.

I found it really easy! I used a TVR Tamora that I upgraded to 345BHP, ended up with a 2 1/2min lead! Its very light with full weight reduction and I was overtaking the other cars with it, getting 30-40 second leads.

Simple. Beginner I used a silver Renault I won from the Loeb challenge, minorly tuned. Medium I used the prize car from beginner, and advanced I forgot to to, but just beat it now with a '99 Impreza Rally (thanks to Doobieduck:tup:)

If you're really struggling purchase the torque sensing differential, under the drivetrain section. For gravel I used 50/50, snow 40/60, and tarmac I used 25/75.

As everyone is saying, brake early and brake hard. Turn early, coast a lot, avoid braking unless necessary (sounds contradictory but you get the hang of it)
I personally get into a drift and ride the gas in a low gear. Needless to say all aids off except for ABS 1 and I used a manual trans. I found it much easier than an automatic as the auto doesn't know if you plan on drifting, turning in, or kicking out of an apex.

And do everything you can to STAY OFF THE WALLS. I found the Alaska rally to be ABSURDLY penalty-happy. With snow also do not turn a lot like gravel. It's tempting but snow actually turns better with less wheel turning because it actually grips the snow instead of just gliding over the ice.

A gravel strategy is like I said brake hard and early, turn in and get a small drift but not completely sideways. From that just hammer out of the turn.

I beat these challenges by 1min+ often passing the drivers but maybe I'm just skilled at rally, which is a good possibility. I did beat the tarmac tho no problem too, untuned even. I guess it's just down to potluck and skill at rally, and handling rally cars.

just got through this in an evo 4 maybe. whatever older model they have on the premium side. tuned to 345 with all weight mods aaaannnnd chassis rigidity mod, nothing like bringing a gun to a knife fight. owned the dirt and snow. tarmac was a bit of a challenge so i switched to my GTI RM that is fully modified and did great, just a couple bumps along the way caused me to take second, nbd i still got the prize car ticket.

on a side note, this is the first time in a while that i have duped. but yesterday, i got the sti rally car and now i just keep duping the paint chips i get then i will dupe the car ticket once more before continuing. i honestly don't need to, but if i can score a couple premium rally cars, it will save me a bunch when looking to get all premiums. 1/4 the way there and i have a fat stack of matte paints :D

I drove my RMed Elise, did the job very easily (although in real-life, the car would probably lose it's bodywork:scared:)

It is rigged. There's def no proper AI runs. Just times pre-meditated.

"Rigged" suggests it's deliberate, if you think PD deliberately made the splits inconsistent I have to ask why you would think that?

Read the whole thread, it seems to be a bug, and likely that the split is always based on the last placed-car, or one specific car (the one in front or behind you) but not the leader.

Or all of the PD staff could be laughing at you, in your tinfoil hat.

I drove the C4 WRC (Loeb) car, had no difficulties winning them. :-)

Only 'problem' is that i bought it, so now I got two of them after finishing the loeb challenge.

you should give it to me. Nah jk I want that subaru wrc from '08

I did the dirt and the tarmac with the Lancia Detla Integrale HF 91, tuned to the maximum allowed.
Traction Control and ABS set to 1, skid recovery ON and everything else off.
It was really a pain in the arse for me, I think it took me almost 2 weeks to get it done (ofcourse not playing every day). When I got it done I did Sebastian Loeb (all three) on the same day with all gold also... guess I finally became a pro-rally driver.

Now busy with the Advanced rally, managed to get Gold there also for the first race the first try..

(using the Logitech GT 27 :) )

I used the Lancia Delta HF Integrale '91 for it, fully tuned to 347 BHP.

I was using the Mitsubishi CZ-3 Tarmac '01 at first (349 HP) , but then I bought the stage3 turbo for it and the HP became too much. I then downgraded to the default (stage 2 turbo), but it then suddenly had 354 HP!! There was no way I could downgrade again to 349 HP... I think this is a bug in GT5 and I hated the bug since the car was great!

But after some practice and tuning the Lancia proved why it has such a good reputation.. I love this car (just make sure you tune it correctly). I'm now actually doing the advanced rally with the Lancia Delta S4 rally car from '85, because I feel I have to use old Lancia rally-cars :D
