This thread will be used for expanded clarification of ITCC-specific acronyms, race reviews, photos and various other things. While every new season will require a new thread in the GT6 Racing Series section, this thread is our permanent "Base of Operations," with ITCC Driver Biographies, ITCC statistics, and various other long-term projects.

I'll also include a "setups" post, a "dictionary" post, "Statistics post," "Photos" and various other posts at the beginning of the thread.

ITCC Statistics post - a list of who's won the most races, led the most laps, set the fastest laps, etc.

Season 5:

@Dano20 has led the most laps, won the most races, and has claimed the first "full-sweep" of a weekend, in Run-offs Week 1.

dano20 holds the fastest lap on Racing Hard tires at Apricot Hill, a 1:25.994.

@ITCC_Andrew has the smallest margin of placement (0.005 seconds) for qualifying 2nd in Week 1 of ITCC 5 Runoffs against dano20.

@Siggers holds the fastest lap on Racing Medium tires at Apricot Hill, a 1:23.909.

ITCC Photomode Post - a post full of nothing but glorious photos!

As many as 800+ ITCC photos can be found on my flickr account - Northern Smile. This is a great place to look through if you want to find ITCC-related photos. There certainly isn't a shortage... :D

Tuning post - a list of tips and tricks for getting the most out of your ITCC tuning setups.

FF Setups:

Suspension:

Ride height is an important consideration in ITCC. If your car is too low, it will bottom out - and this will kill any and all grip. If it's too tall, it will have an awkward center-of-gravity, making turn-in (specifically) very unpredictable. Ride height should be adjusted with the remainder of the setup in mind.

Dampers are usually used for fine-tuning a car's "neutrality." If you have a small oversteer or understeer problem, the dampers can be adjusted in small increments. Typically, in Gran Turismo 6, the higher numbers (from now on: "stiffer") dampers will lead to less grip for that side, and more grip on the other side. Stiffening the rear dampers will push the grip forward, giving more grip to front tires, and less to back tires.

From an automotive textbook: "The extension cycle controls the motions of the vehicle body's sprung weight. The compression cycle controls the same motions of the vehicle's unsprung weight." This means that if you're trying to adjust the way that the car's body rolls, you should use extension, and, if you're trying to adjust the way the tires bounce off of curbs, you should use compression.

Spring rates are the same as dampers, but will control the "initial impact [with a curb or bump]" and the way the car responds after hitting a bump or a curb. If you're losing grip over a bump, your springs are too stiff.

Anti-roll bars are the fastest and easiest way to tune your car's grip levels in flat (not bumpy) corners. They function the same as dampers, but will also cause a car to be more responsive at turn-in, helping to reduce any of the problems associated with weight distribution. A stiff setting will reduce grip in that corner - a setting of "7" is the maximum. If 7 is used in the rear, the car will lose rear-end grip.

Camber is generally set to 0 for most grip. GT6 is glitched and setting camber to 0 is the first step towards optimal grip.

Toe affects turn-in. A positive setting turns-in to a corner slower (with more control) than a negative setting for toe. Negative settings are often used for making the car very loose (oversteer), while positive settings are often used for making the car tight (understeer).

Transmission:

The transmission is used to ensure that the car is always on its power-band. On a short, tight, technical course, a shorter gear ratio (with a lower top speed and higher acceleration) is typically used. On longer circuits, the gear ratios should be set so that the car reaches redline RPM at the end of the fastest straightaway in draft [slipstream], just before braking.

Driveline:

The Limited Slip Differential (LSD) is used to limit the differential in speed between the inside and outside wheels in a corner. When a vehicle goes around a corner, the inside wheels spin much, much slower than the outside wheels. The outside wheels have to travel a farther difference in the same period of time. If your wheels don't have this differential in speed, you're either going straight, or the wheels have come off. There's no way to turn a car without inducing a difference in rotational speed between left and right.

The "Initial Torque" of the LSD determines the "pre-load" or the torque it requires to lock the difference in speed. 5 offers a faster response than 60, meaning that the differential will lock more often.

"Acceleration sensitivity" controls the amount of lock. 5 will mean that the LSD will lock more aggressively. 60 means less aggressively. The LSD settings should be tested by each driver separately, and the driver should investigate what they like specifically for their own setups, or check the tuning forums for the setups offered there.

Body:

Downforce (only available on the rear of the cars) adjusts the airflow over the car. High downforce means more grip, with less top speed. Low downforce means less grip with a higher top speed.

General:

Regarding camber, it's used in FF-car tuning to change the handling characteristics between understeer and oversteer, by working with rear camber to improve turn-in.. The idea being that reducing the surface area of the rear tires reduces the amount of grip which is "taken away" from the front tires when the weight shifts towards the back of the car. Or, in other words, it gives more front grip to reduce rear grip because you get a little bit more slide-angle with less rear grip.

Quotes - We say some crazy things at ITCC, here's a list of some of them!

"I just came to the front stretch and saw him sliding on his side..." - @nascarfan1400 ITCC IV Silverstone

"I'm nascarfan... I'm good for left turns and whining..." - @nascarfan1400

"In a racing suit, in a hot tub." - @ITCC_Andrew at the ITCC IV Banquet

And if @KingSakery puts the MINI in front of Spurgy? :D BMW reps would relieve themselves of the bricks they were carrying in their intestines.

Wet weather racing guides:

Tire Selection

Driving Line approach:

Generally, in wet racing, there's less grip available on the racing line in dry weather. Braking later than normal, turning late, and slowing down extra, to be on the outside of the track is generally ideal in wet weather racing. The dry line will not have as much grip, and it's harder to stop and accelerate in the wet. By turning-in later than normal, you're forcing yourself off of the dry line, and straightening out the exit, while lengthening your braking zone. This image will further explain:

So, onwards to the new seasons of ITCC/ITC-B racing...

Planning has begun for ITCC 6 and ITC-B 2. Yes, ITCC 5 and ITC-B seasons are still going, but there's a bit of a catch; we need to be ready to roll out ITCC 6 and ITC-B at the same time, because ITC-B is going to be a support race for ITCC. They will share the same schedule, but with ITC-B 2 being one week before ITCC 6.

ITCC:
Teaser #1: The infamous will soon face extinction, following a natural flow of progress. There will be much with which to fiddle; a season consists of much, and little. A championship culminates in a great face off; one we have set eyes upon before - and, all happens in a valley of ore.

The Nürburgring Nordschleife's "Bergwerk" corner was a mine. "A valley of ore" is a direct reference to Nürburgring... The other parts (including the Equilibrium hint) refer to a coming change; ITC-B drivers entering ITCC, if they desire, under the guise of an Independent team ownership position.

Teaser #2: an underdog shall come, with champagne and rum... And although the greenhorn (still wet behind the ears, I would guess) will not have a shot at perpetuation, perhaps there may be some congratulation. A new era is soon upon us.

A repeat of Teaser #1, this was meant to really pique your interests in who the newcomer would be.

Teaser #3: Among standards, there is normally a bar; it may be high, or perhaps sub par. Those which are not sufficient will cease to exist, while those that are will replace them, for development is a continual process. Expect no excess.

No more standard cars. The final nail in the coffin of the standard cars was the car number thing; though they could easily return if PD expand the car numbers. ITCC 5 and ITC-B 1 will be the transitional phase to add car numbers. ITCC 6 and ITC-B 1 and 2 will use the car numbers.

Teaser #4:

Set the bar high, and you may set the bar stiff. Set the bar low, and you may join in a jiff. Your placement determines your success, inadvertently.

No setups for Am category drivers; more on this later.

Teaser #5:

Something which has never happened before in ITCC history could happen for the first time in ITCC 6. No rhyme is no crime, but you might do some time... A jury speaks in soft whispers, while a peacock's feathers are rustled.

Peacocks are known for their colourful feathers, and "to rustle feathers" means to frustrate or something similar. A jury normally passes a verdict upon their peers. These two are hints at the following:

  • safety car periods could very well see their début in ITCC 6/ITC-B 2.
  • A new penalty system will be entirely time-based, meaning that penalties will be measured in seconds, added to the final finishing time of a driver. The old penalty system (ToS) has been found to be inadequate. If you have a problem, bring it to my attention.

And ITC-B:
Teaser #1: A great journey begins, with he who has the most wins. A great wind will blow strong for many and few, including an opportunity to improve your view. Focus, and you shall succeed.

To improve your view, is to earn a spot in ITCC's starting grid; no more will you watch. Now, you will race. Top 2 from each category (Am and Pro) will get a spot in their respective categories in ITCC.

Teaser #2: a disparity is coming, but a change is not. The young reptile looks to stay independent from the old Dragon. The young reptile will grow into its own Dragon, and only then shall the older Dragon evolve.

ITCC cars will likely become faster. The performance disparity between ITCC and ITC-B will increase (either slightly or significantly,) without affecting the performance of ITC-B cars. The young reptile (ITC-B) remains independent and unchanged, while the old Dragon only becomes more difficult to tame.

Teaser #3: the field changes more than the battle. Competition remains, but a greater challenge looms in new territory.

New tracks.

The 100th official race of ITCC history is coming. I'll have some final teasers available immediately following the race. Especially if you have been around for a while, you might want to see this. ;)

Don't forget to check the previous posts for the spoilers of the teasers, if you want.

Connection thread:

Andrew, the video is cool. But does it work for Europe? And could you explain the steps by writing here please? I really need to know because you know that what happens if I see just 2/3 drivers on a race.
